Nathan nodded, looking at his son with clear approval. 

Out of his five sons, only Charlie truly had a business mind and the ability to make things work. 

That fact always made Nathan proud. 

“The company’s focus will be based on the direction your mother and I have been researching,” he said. 

Charlie couldn’t quite grasp it. His thinking wasn’t broad enough. 

“But haven’t you been researching encryption?” he asked. 

Maria smiled faintly. 

“That depends on what kind of codes you’re talking about.” 

At first, their research had indeed focused on algorithmic decryption. As they went deeper, they discovered something else. Everything in the world has its own code. 

Once that code is understood, complex things can be broken down into their simplest parts. 

She gave an example–one that was far from appropriate. 

“If we disliked someone,” Maria said evenly, “we could extract certain viruses or bacteria from biological systems and use them against that person directly. No traces left behind. And if this were done on a large scale, it could…” 

She didn’t finish the sentence. Charlie understood, but he didn’t dare think further. 

“Mom, Dad, if you’re setting up the company,” he said carefully, “I’ll go look for a suitable location.” 

“Good. Thank you for the effort,” Maria replied. 

Then, as if she remembered something else, she added, “The day after tomorrow, something of mine will arrive at the port. Go pick it up for me.” 

“Alright,” Charlie said. He had no objections. 

When Alice finally saw the message on her phone, it was already night.
