Scott went quiet; even his breathing sounded small and hurt. 

After a pause, Alice spoke again. 

“I know they never liked your racing. Be careful.” 

Then she hung up. 

It felt awkward. Very awkward. 

On the other end, Scott burst into tears. 

He had once targeted Alice so badly and treated her terribly. 

Yet when it mattered, his sister still cared about him. 

He really had been awful. 

From now on, he would be twice as good to her. 

Alice came first. Always. 

He hurried to check on his modified race car. 

Scott wasn’t sure if his sister would like his taste. 

But he had poured everything he had into that car. If she would just look at it once, that would be enough.

Whether he could actually focus on reading, only he knew.

Alice finished sterilizing the needles and began the therapy.
