Chapter 192
Chapter 192
Chloe suddenly grinned. “Yep, you guessed it.”
Filip shot up from the passenger seat, banged his head on the roof, and gritted his teeth in pain.
“Chloe, are you for real?” he blurted out.
“Of course, I remember Grovenwich was absolutely gorgeous. Ised to be a major tourist spot, right?” Chloe replied.
Filip nodded vigorously. “Yeah, our hometown is famous for its enery–mountains, lakes, the whole works. There are tons of villas there now. Mom said they’re all fully furnished, perfect for tourists or rich folks looking to retire.”
But as he spoke, his eyes dimmed a little. “Too bad they were just finished and hadn’t even opened yet when the apocalypse hit.”
Chloe kept the car steady, a smile on her face. “Perfect. That’s where our new base is going to be.”
Grovenwich was always pretty remote. It was surrounded by mountains to the south, Stone Lake Park to the west, and a big Botanic Gardens to the east.
The only way in or out was from the north. Once they cleared out the mutant creatures, it’d be a perfect spot–easy to defend, hard to attack.
It used to be a mountainous area, but over time, it was gradually developed into a tourist spot. The construction was finished, but before it could open to the public, the apocalypse hit.
Now, it was all hers for the taking.
With the Phantom Zombie’s intimidating presence, hardly any mutant creatures were stupid enough to come looking for trouble.
Every now and then, they’d run into a newly evolved Level 4 zombie or mutant Frostbeast, but Chloe crushed them without breaking a sweat.
In the cars behind, a dozen or so regular folks, led by Clayton, were following along.
At first, they were scared out of their wits, but now they were actually fighting on the front lines. Each of them, gripped an axe, mustering all their courage to hack down zombie after zombie.
Chloe was more than satisfied with how things were going.
Her people might not be strong, but they definitely couldn’t be cowards.
Emily called out from the back, “Chloe, we’ve got zombies up ahead. Probably just some weak ones.”
They’d heard this kind of thing a bunch of times on the road. Whenever it happened, all the Level 1 and Level 2 powered humans in the group would head out to clear the zombies.
Since their abilities were about the same, it was the perfect chance to toughen up watching their backs, their safety was guaranteed, so they had nothing to fear.
real combat. With Chloe and the others
Filip charged out, all fired up, with Chiara and Linda right behind him. The two water–powered humans and the lightning- powered Filip worked together seamlessly, unleashing five times the damage on the zombies.
Chiara and Linda cast a water net over the zombies, and Filip blasted them with lightning, frying the trapped zombies to a crisp.

Chiara cheered. “Nice one, Filip!”

Linda grinned. “You’re a beast, bro!”
Now their eyes were shining with energy. The hopelessness from before was totally gone.
When the team worked together like that, they were way stronger together than any of them could be alone.
Seeing this, everyone started pairing up and working together on their own. Even the regular folks without powers got the hang of setting up traps and teaming up. When the zombie hordes showed up, they’d jump in to dig out the cores too.
No one was sitting around.
By the end of the day, everyone’s backpacks were packed to the brim with cores.
The regular folks who’d come along stared at the cores they’d received, tears streaming down their faces.
Now, they could finally survive in this apocalypse.
Just then, Emily groaned over the radio, her voice tense. “Heads up, everyone! The highway’s packed about half a mile ahead, zombies everywhere!”
The convoy inched forward along the crowded road. When they reached a gas station, the scene outside the windows was pure hell on earth.
Screams of terror and the roars of zombies filled the air.

Outside the gas station store, dozens of people were surrounded by a horde of over a thousand zombies.
There were tough guys abandoning families to save their own skin, teen girls fighting desperately to protect their little brother, and women who threw their boyfriends to the zombies just to buy themselves a few more seconds.
An elderly man, hair completely white, was shoved to the front by his own kids, clutching a wooden stick and shaking all over as he tried to hold off the zombies.
The zombies had them boxed in, and all they could do was keep backing into the gas station’s convenience store.
But the more they retreated, the smaller their space became, making it even easier for the zombies to close in. Death was only a matter of time.
A mother in utter despair clung to her child who had already turned into a zombie, refusing to let go even as she was being bitten and torn apart, her body a bloody mess.
In the face of death, people’s true nature came out. Some fought desperately to survive, some would stoop to anything, and some would give up their own lives just to protect their family.
In the middle, a few old folks were standing there, not lifting a finger to help, grumbling and complaining loudly at everyone around them.
“Aren’t you supposed to be some kind of miracle workers? Hurry up and kill those zombies already, you good–for–nothings!” one of them shouted.
Their eyes were wide with fear and anxiety as they frantically shoved the people in front of them, trying to push them forward.
They didn’t care at all that those people were the ones protecting them.
They kept grumbling and complaining, “You useless idiots! What are you even doing? Hurry up and kill the zombies! This is so damn annoying!”

Chapter 192
The zombies‘ roars, mixed with the old folks in the middle yelling and complaining, completely drove the people on the front lines over the edge.
One guy was just about to turn around and shout back when, before he could even get the words out, a zombie lunged. grabbed his neck, and tore his head right off.
Chloe and her crew looked sick to their stomachs as they took in the scene.
They couldn’t believe they were still witnessing something this messed up after surviving in the apocalypse for so long.
They were planning to drive straight over to help, but with such big convoy, it was impossible to go unnoticed. Some sharp–eyed survivors spotted them right away.
“Everyone, look! There are cars coming! We’re saved!” someone shouted, their voice trembling with hope.
The crowd broke down in tears of joy.
“Are you here to save us? Hurry up! The zombies are about to eat us alive!” someone yelled.
“Why are you so slow?” another voice shouted impatiently.
It was still those same old folks in the middle, bossing everyone around and pointing at the cars like they owned the place.
Chloe wasn’t planning to pay those survivors any mind. Sure, her new base needed people, but she wasn’t about to let any random loser in.
Strength and integrity mattered, but at the very least, they had to know how to stay out of trouble and not make things harder for everyone.
As for that whole crowd of the old, the weak, and the young, Chloe figured they weren’t worth the risk.
Linda looked out the window at the miserable survivors, feeling a pang of guilt. She kept wanting to say something, but the words wouldn’t come.
Chiara could tell what Linda wanted to say and tugged gently at her sleeve.
“Mom, don’t meddle,” Chiara said quietly.
They’d all been through hell in the apocalypse and had gotten used to seeing the ugly side of people. Chiara especially- after two months of pure darkness, her heart had turned to ice, except for her family.
Linda’s heart ached for them, but in the end, she couldn’t bring herself to say anything.
Other people’s lives mattered, but her family came first.
Chloe was already exhausted from running the whole crew, so it’s better not give her any more trouble.
