196 A comaÂ
KEITH’S POV aÂ
“Jasmine-” I said her name horrified.Â
I ran to her and knelt beside her immediately. Placing my hands on her shoulders I gently shook her. However, she didn’t respond, she wasn’t conscious. Her face and upper torso were covered in the strange powder like her bodyguards in the parking lot. Her phone, which was still on the call, lay in her lap. I couldn’t see her breathing and began to fear the worst.Â
I brought my head to her chest and listened. After a moment a wave of relief came over me as I heard the slow steady beat of her heart. Then I felt the faint rising and falling of her chest. I put her phone in my trouser pocket removed my jacket and placed it over her body and then picked her up in my arms.Â

I made my way down the stairs carefully as I held her, trying not to drop her.Â
My men had called for the police and paramedics to come to this section of the parking lot.Â
“Please help my wife,” I told them, and handed herÂ
over to them.Â
They put Jasmine on a stretcher and began attending to her injuries. The other three bodyguards were also attended to by the paramedics.Â
As the two paramedics worked on Jasmine, I paced around them nervously.Â
After a few minutes of watching one of the twoÂ
turned to me.Â
“What’s wrong with her?” I asked them.Â
“We don’t know we’ll have to take her to the hospital where the doctors will have a closer examination of her,” he told me. “The onlyÂ

positive thing is that she is responsive despite being unconscious. Her injuries aren’t fatal, her ankle is twisted and she seems to have a small concussion given her head feels a little swollen.”Â
I recalled the way she was lying down on the floor with her back against the wall. The position was a little awkward unless she’d fallen and hit the wallÂ
and floor.Â
We suspect whatever this white powderÂ
everyone has, sone kind of poison is the reason why they are unconscious.” another paramedic answered.Â
I looked at the bodyguards who were also being attended to. None of them was dead. I thought about Diana’s plan.Â
They put Jasmine in one of the ambulances and I went inside with her. I told my men to follow us to the hospital behind the vehicle.Â
I held Jasmine’s hand along the ride as I stared atÂ

her, hoping she would be alright. I contemplated the events of the day. Honestly, I had to make Diana answer for all this once I returned to the estate. She was being watched by my men until I returned. I’m just glad her plan to kill Jasmine had fallen through.Â
I then felt a vibration in my trouser pocket. I looked down and reached, my hand into it. I found it was Jasmine’s phone that I had pocketed earlier ringing. Checking it, I read the name written for the caller and saw ‘Louis‘ with a heart emoji next to it.Â
The Carrington boy…I realized and my eyes narrowed. I stared at the phone for a moment but didn’t answer it. and just let it ring and put it back in my pocket. I got back to staring at Jasmine holding her hand.Â
Upon arriving at the nearest hospital the paramedics took Jasmine inside. There wereÂ
other ambulances arriving from the Cleaver foodÂ

distribution with the bodyguards. Inside Jasmine and her bodyguards were assigned their respective rooms in the ER. It was then that I noticed there were 8 bodyguards why did she need so many?Â
I went to wait outside Jasmine’s room as two doctors and a nurse went in to diagnose and testÂ
her.Â
The phone in my pocket rang again and I put it on silent, knowing it was Louis. I paced around as I waited for the doctor’s results.Â
After about an hour one of the 2 doctors then left Jasmine’s room and came up to me.Â
“Mr Acland?” she called out to me.Â
“How’s her condition, doctor?” I asked her.Â
“Her condition is stable but she’s been poisoned. That powdery stuff that was in her? It’s a powder poison that is typically used in cleaning supplyÂ

production factories. If it comes in contact with human skin, especially the mouth, nose, and eyes. It will cause difficulty in breathing, blurry vision, and cause the person to go unconscious. As the poison seeps into their bodies, it causes them to shut down. Luckily the amount she and all the others received wasn’t enough to kill them. However, the longer it remains in their system the more dangerous it is.”Â
“And so?” I asked wondering what the solutionÂ
was.Â
“The poison must slowly be extracted from her system with an available medication. From now on until another three or four weeks she should take it to remove the poison. She will remain in a comatose state for about a week as the poison slowly gets out of her system but she will be fine.” A weight lifted off me upon hearing that. That final confirmation that she would be just fine.Â

“Must she remain here for the next week?” IÂ
followed up.Â
“Not necessarily, since she is stable I think by tomorrow she can be discharged and you can take care of her from home. However, since she is in a coma you would either need a nurse to come in, or if you find that troublesome she can stay here until she wakes up. The choice is yours.”Â
Take her home… the thought lingered in myÂ
mind.Â
“No, her returning home won’t be a problem I’ll hire a nurse for that,” I assured the doctor.Â
“Of course, then all good,” she replied. “You can go in and see your wife we’re done with her,” she said to me before walking away.Â
I turned to my bodyguards nearby. “Don’t let anyone come near the room,” I instructed them. I was giving the order specifically was in reference to someone who might pose a problem.Â

I walked into the room where there was now only a nurse. She was handling the drip bag that was connected to Jasmine’s arm. She quickly finished off and then left the room. Leaving me alone with Jasmine, I approached the bed.Â
