Outside, the world was frozen and the wind was biting, but inside Blaze Haven, it was warm and comfortable, and everyone slept soundly. 

This was the most comfortable night anyone had slept since the apocalypse began. 

Especially the few people they had picked up along the way. They were so overwhelmed by their sudden good fortune that they couldn’t even fall asleep, tossing and turning all night. 

They feared it was all just a dream, and that when they woke up, they’d still have to face their cold–hearted clan, the freezing weather, and the endless hordes of zombies. 

It wasn’t until well past midnight, when exhaustion finally got the better of them, that they slowly drifted off to sleep. 

The next morning, everyone was shaken awake as the whole place trembled like crazy. As soon as they cracked open their sleepy eyes, they realized the roof wouldn’t stop rattling. 

“What’s going on?” 

“Is this an earthquake?” 

“Oh my God, everyone, run!” 

In just five seconds, everyone bolted to the lobby on the first floor. Through the windows, they saw a Frostbeast, completely covered in shaggy white fur, shaking the whole villa like it was just a toy. 

Fear was written all over their faces. 

“Is that a Frostbeast?” Emily gasped. She and the others had run into Frostbeasts before, but this one was on a whole different level. It was bigger, meaner, and way more dangerous than any they’d ever seen. 

The Frostbeast was pounding and kicking at the villa, but the whole place just shook a couple of times and didn’t even get a scratch. 

Just when everyone thought the villa was about to give in and was gearing up to fight back, the Frostbeast let out a mournful howl and toppled over. 

“What the hell?” someone blurted out. 

They rushed to the window and saw Chloe and Noah had just straight–up killed the Frostbeast. 

Now, they were busy yanking out those steel–hard white spikes from its fur, one at a time. 

Frank was the most excited of all. 

As a metal–powered human, forging was his thing. Whenever he spotted some awesome materials, his eyes

would light up and he’d get all hyped up.

“Chloe, can I have that pelt?” Frank called out, barely able to contain his excitement.

Chloe had just peeled the Frostbeast’s fur off, skin and all, when she heard Frank practically bouncing with excitement. 

“Sure,” she replied. 

She tossed Frostbeast’s bloody corpse outside and threw the pelt straight into spiritual space. 

Spotty and the Phantom Zombie howled and lunged at the Frostbeast, totally ignoring the hail crashing down from above as they ripped into its flesh. 

They crammed bloody meat into their mouths, didn’t even bother chewing. They just swallowed it whole with a loud gulp. 

For them, the meat of a level 5 mutant beast was the ultimate energy boost. 

Chloe walked back into the villa. “Frank, I’ve got level 5 mutant serpent pelt. They’re all yours.” 

Wo level 4 Frostbeast pelts, one level 5 Frostbeast pelt, and a 

“What?” Frank was overwhelmed with excitement. 

“All of them? For me to forge?” he asked. 

Chloe nodded. “You’re at the peak of level 3 now, right? Start with the level 4 Frostbeast pelt and make each teammate a protective vest.” 

Everyone was buzzing with excitement, staring at Frank like he was about to hand out treasure. 

‘For everyone? Did she really mean that?‘ Their hearts raced with anticipation. 

The six newcomers they’d rescued on the road couldn’t hide their envy, staring at the others like hungry 

wolves. 

When they actually got their own set of beast–skin armor, they honestly wondered if they were still asleep. 

“Hi, Chloe. I’m Yvonne Harris, 18, and I have plant power,” the girl said, finally getting a chance to talk to 

Chloe. 

Her younger brother, 14–year–old, stepped forward too. “I’m Todd Harris, Yvonne’s brother. I don’t have any powers.” 

As he spoke, there was a trace of sadness in his eyes. 

‘I wish I had powers to protect Yvonne, but I’m just useless,‘ Todd thought, feeling a pang of disappointment. 

The four women in the back wasted no time. They hurried up, eager to introduce themselves. 

Before this, they’d either been stuck in the car or Chloe was too busy to notice them. Now that they finally got

The six newcomers didn’t feel snubbed at all. On the contrary, they were thrilled. ‘Whoa, Chloe actually acknowledged us!‘ they thought, hearts pounding with excitement. 

Just then, Liana hurried over, looking a bit anxious. 

“Chloe, there’s no electricity in Blaze Haven. How are we supposed to make food?” Liana asked. 

Chloe swept her gaze over the crowd, cool and collected, then explained how things work around here. 

“Didn’t I give you all stoves yesterday?” she said, pulling out a bunch of small pots from her spiritual space. 

“You’ve all got your own supplies–pots, bowls, whatever you’ve got. Just start a fire out in the yard and cook your own meals,” she added. 

Everyone looked outside and realized that the yard, which used to be just a walled space, now had a thick ice canopy overhead. No one had any idea when it had appeared. 

Massive hailstones hammered down on the ice canopy, but it didn’t even get a scratch. 

Chloe pointed at the eight newcomers. “I’ll be giving out supplies to you guys too, but think of it as borrowed gear. You’ll have to return it down the line.” 

The eight of them were all super thankful, practically beaming with gratitude. 

They grabbed their pots, bowls, and stoves, but the second they stepped outside, the freezing air slammed into them. They felt like they were about to freeze solid. 

They rushed back inside as fast as they could. 

That was when it hit them that the whole villa was actually a cozy 60°F. 

Everyone stared at Chloe in shock. ‘How the hell did she pull that off?‘ they wondered. 

Chloe didn’t bother explaining. “I’ve got some military coats, hats, and scarves here. Throw them on to keep warm for now. Once we get those Frostbeast pelts stitched up, you won’t have to worry about freezing your butt off anymore.” 

Frostbeasts were total tanks. Their fur was so thick that not even a blizzard could get through. After yanking out those steel–hard spikes, the skin underneath was crazy tough and flexible. 

But sewing that stuff was a nightmare. 

“When the time comes, I hope everyone will work together to help stitch up the cold–proof gear,” Chloe said. 

For the next few days, nobody left Blaze Haven. Everyone was hard at work, turning Frostbeast pelts into

Normal needles were useless against that insanely tough hide, so they had to sharpen Frostbeast’s own steel- like fur into needles just to stitch it together. 

Frank was the first to score a Frostbeast pelt. He just slipped it on over his thermals and took it for a spin outside. 

When he came back, he was grinning from ear to ear. 

“I’m not cold at all, seriously!” Frank laughed. 

“This is awesome! The Frostbeast pelt doesn’t just keep you warm. Nothing gets through it. Wind, snow, water, even fire! It’s like wearing armor and a heater at the same time,” he said, totally pumped. 

Everyone was so pumped, their faces flushed bright red with excitement. 

The hailstorm only lasted a few days, but it left the world devastated–buildings collapsed, ruins everywhere, and the glory of the old world was wiped out. 

Even more of the remaining humans perished. 

Humans were fragile, yet incredibly resilient. 

There were always a few clever enough to survive the disaster. 

The zombies weren’t so lucky. Every zombie below level 3 was utterly obliterated by the hail, not a single one left intact. 

Zombie blood ran through every street and alley, reeking so bad it made people want to gag. The stench was everywhere, impossible to escape. 

Chloe was sitting outside when a surge of power pulsed from her body. Suddenly, her eyes snapped open, flaring with a sharp red light.‘ 

She’d just broken through level 5 powered human. 

Five months into the apocalypse, and she was already standing at a height she’d only reached after ten years in her previous life. 

Chloe glanced up at the sunlight she hadn’t seen in forever. It didn’t bring her any comfort at all. Instead, it just made her more alert, more wary than ever.
