The Day Love Betrayed Me and Never the Plan 205

Chapter 205

With excited smiles on their faces, everyone sat together on the spacious carpet of the first floor, eagerly counting up today’s

haul.

Congratulations, Host! You’ve gained 45 teammates, all with loyalty at 100. Reward: a base with a onemile radius.”

Base upgrade successful.”

Chloe blinked in disbelief, then blinked again.

A smile she couldn’t hold back spread across her face.

She always figured only spiritual space upgrades came with perks, but turns out this counts too.

She thought, Guess I’d better bring more people in!

Host, just so you know, you only get rewards when your teammatesloyalty is above 90.”

Chloe nodded enthusiastically.

Everyone was exhausted today, so nobody bothered to cook. After a quick shower, each person made themselves some instant noodles and turned in for the night.

Before heading to her bedroom, Emily suddenly remembered something and turned back to Chloe.

Chloe, a few days ago, some survivors showed up around here. They were hiding in the dark, scoping out our villa with flashlights,Emily said.

How strong are they?Chloe asked.

The strongest powered human among them was at most level two, so I left them alone,Emily replied.

Chloe nodded. Got it.”

Once everyone was asleep, Chloe grabbed her solar flashlight and slipped outside.

With a onemile radius now under her control, her base pretty much covered the whole town.

As she walked, she noticed that any mutated creatures caught up in the base expansion had all been taken out by the spiritual space.

Chloe excitedly picked up cores along the way.

Until she saw a wall. System, is this the edge of the base?Chloe asked.

Her eyes were drawn to a towering wall, covered in an electric grid. She ran her hand over it, but couldn’t tell what it was made ofit felt even sturdier than reinforced concrete.

She reached out and grabbed at the air, and a 30foot ice blade materialized in her hand. She swung it hard at the wall.

She put all her strength into it, but it only left a faint mark on the wall, and that was without the electric grid even activating.

She couldn’t help but feel a chill run down her spine.

Damn, this wall is way too strong!she muttered.

With a fortress wall this unbreakable, her base’s security system was truly one of a kind in the whole world.

Keep racking up those points, Host! This wall can get even tougher, the system said.

The system’s words got Chloe even more hype. Her base was finally turning into a real fortress.

Early the next morning, Chloe was jolted awake by excited shouts. She practically bounced out of bed.

What’s going on?she called out.

As soon as she opened the door, she found everyone standing there, all eyes locked on her.

Emily blurted out, Chloe, you gotta see this! When did we get a wall around our base?”

Chloe let out a breath, grinning. I thought something huge had happened.”

65 vouchers

Emily’s eyes went round as saucers, practically shouting at the top of her lungs. Seriously? You think this is nothing? We’ve got a freaking wall around our base now!”

Her voice shook with excitement, and her eyes were shining with unshed tears.

Chloe chuckled. I set it up myself last night. Go get everyone to grab breakfast, then let them pick out where they want to live.”

Everyone just stared, blinking in confusion, like they couldn’t believe what they were hearing.

Chloe flashed a playful smile. Yep, just like you guessed.”

Frank stood there in a daze, totally dumbfounded.

Chloe, you mean we can really have our own place now?he stammered, barely believing his own words.

Chloe nodded.

From today on, you guys can choose your own house to live in. This villa has the most space, so it’ll be our future supermarket for everyone.

I’ll fill it up with supplies, all with clearly marked prices. When you need something, just swap your cores for whatever you want,Chloe said.

Chloe went on and on, laying out all the rules for how things would work in the base.

Everyone was hyped as they set out to pick out their own house.

The town was packed with brand new townhouses, all movein ready but never used. Everyone was super excited.

Clayton stood there, with dozens of ordinary people gathered behind him.

Everyone was nervously rubbing their hands, worry plain in their eyes.

When Chloe came out, Clayton stepped forward, still fidgeting. Boss, what about all these ordinary folks? They can’t go out and hunt mutated creatures. So what happens to them?”

If they can’t hunt mutated creatures, that means they can’t get cores to trade for supplies at the supermarket.

Chloe smacked her forehead, almost forgetting. Regular folks can pitch in too. All the building, cleaning, and running things around here. That’s your job now.”

Clayton, you’ll organize everything and we’ll use a points system. Later, you can use those points to trade for supplies at the supermarket, Chloe explained.

Then she added, Get everyone together and remodel this villa so it works like a real supermarket. Once it’s done, everyone gets 300 points, and Clayton, you get 2000.

After that, I’ll stock the place with all kinds of supplies, plus mutagenic liquid and immunity liquid. You can use your points to trade for them. Work hard and anyone’s got a shot at becoming powered.”

Just hearing the Mutagenic liquid, everyone instantly perked up, buzzing with excitement and motivation.

Wait, does this mean we could actually become powered too? The thought raced through the crowd, almost too good to believe.

RReally?a boy blurted out. It was that same mischievous kid Chloe’s team had met when they first arrived at Bluehaven Base. He’d tagged along with them when they came here.

Chloe grinned at him. Of course! Someday, I want Blaze Haven to be a place where everyone’s got powers. No more ordinary folks.”

Hearing that, everyone was fired up, ready to give it their all.

In just ten days, the largest villa had been turned into a fullblown supermarket, and before anyone knew it, everyone had snagged their own house.

The powered humans went out every day to hunt mutated creatures. Half the cores they scored went straight into boosting their abilities, while the rest got swapped for supplies at the base store.

And the regular folks weren’t just sitting around either.

They rolled up their sleeves and started breaking ground, planting crops all over Blaze Haven. There was plenty of land to go around, and for every day they worked, they’d earn 100 points.

As they worked, they couldn’t help but chatter excitedly. Chloe is seriously amazing! Who would’ve thought we could actually plant crops here? I heard the zombie virus has been wiped out.”

No way, the zombie virus can really be wiped out? If that cure gets out there, does that mean we could actually go back to how things used to be?”

Not far away, Chloe couldn’t help but give a bitter chuckle. If only things were really that simple, she thought.

To get her hands on the cure that could dissolve and wipe out the zombie virus, she’d spent every last spiritual space point she’d worked so hard to save up.

Guess it was back to the grindtime to head out and hunt more mutated creatures all over again.

Her eyes locked on the Botanic Gardens just past the wall, her lips pursed with resolve.

Guess it’s time to pay the Botanic Gardens a visit, she thought.

She walked into the supermarket, where the cashier was a fraillooking woman. She didn’t have the strength to help out with the farming, so she’d been given one of the easier jobs instead.
