Chapter 206Â
Today, the store was finally revamped. Everything had been changed except for the heating, system.Â
Chloe took out all the shelves from her spiritual space and set them up, then loaded them up with supplies.Â
Everything you could think of was there, filling the shelves.Â
Rice, flour, cooking oil, bottled water, feminine hygiene products, and all kinds of fresh fruits and veggies.Â
People from the base came in, hauling today’s spoils and the points they’d racked up.Â
As soon as they stepped inside, they were stunned. The place was like a time machine, just like before everything went toÂ
hell.Â
It was even more packed than before, with food, clothes, and every kind of daily necessity you could think ofÂ
There were even weapons and farm gear, all lined up and ready,Â
Everyone wandered around, touching this and that, grinning from ear to ear. For a moment, it felt like the apocalypse had never happened.Â
They wandered around for ages, but in the end, most of them just hesitantly grabbed a couple of ration biscuits and some bottled water before heading out.Â
Everyone was already loaded up with supplies, so nobody was really short on anything. They were just here to relive that feeling from before the apocalypse.Â
Chloe’s place was right in the middle of the first row. Everyone had made sure to save it just for her.Â
As it was getting late and Chloe was about to call it a night, the sound of noisy footsteps echoed from outside.Â
“Chloe, we caught a spy. As Frank spoke, he marched in, shoving a man ahead of him with his arms pinned behind his back.Â
The man yelled, “I’m not a spy! I’m not!”Â
He was Brian, who’d tried to block the road and jack their ride that day.Â
With the weather warming up, he came over hoping to score some loot, but what he saw here totally freaked him out.Â
When did they build this huge wall in just two weeks? he thought, stunned.Â
He was about to head back and report what he’d seen when Frank and the others, fresh from hunting, caught him and hauled him back to Blaze Haven.Â
Brian was the strongest survivor in his group, always getting hyped up by the old folks, which made him arrogant, thinking he was untouchable.Â
Even when Frank caught sight of him, he was ready to kill and escape.Â
But before he could even react, Frank had his arms twisted behind his back.Â
Up against Frank, his skills were like an ant in a kid’s palm. He couldn’t even struggle.Â
That made Brian furious, but deep down, he was scared out of his wits.Â

He was quickly dragged into Blaze Haven, his eyes darting around in panic. When he saw all the modern equipment and technology, and people reclaiming land and working the fields, a wave of shock crashed through his heart.Â
Brian shouted, “Let me go!” He struggled desperately against the ropes.Â
But before he could break free, someone kicked him in the crook of his knee, forcing him to drop to his knees.Â
He looked up defiantly, only to see Chloe lounging on the couch, leisurely sipping her coffee. His eyes lit up.Â
He shouted in his rough voice, “Hey, lady–uh, I mean, beautiful, remember me?”Â
Chloe gave him a dismissive glance, saying nothing, then turned her attention back to Frank.Â
Frank gave her the rundown on how they’d run into Brian.Â
When Brian realized that this big, tough, powered human was actually showing respect to a woman, whatever fear he had just disappeared.Â
Back in his survivor group, women were seen as totally useless–only good for keeping a man’s bed warm or being treated like walking livestock.Â
Basically, they were just emergency rations–humans kept around for food if things got desperate.Â
Brian was the top dog in his group, a second–level ice–powered human. That kind of rare ice power was almost unheard of, and it let him punch way above his weight.Â
He’d always acted like he owned the place thanks to his powers, so seeing a woman in charge of an entire base just made him burst out laughing.Â
“You guys actually let a woman run things? Seriously, a woman in charge?” he burst out laughing, his voice thick with scorn.Â
To him, it was like the biggest joke ever. His tone was nothing but contempt.Â
‘I can’t stand this anymore,‘ Mindy thought, her chest tight with anger. She’d spent her whole life crushed by sexism.Â
‘Seriously? Even after the apocalypse, there are still guys who treat women like property?‘ Mindy fumed.Â
She raised her foot and kicked Brian right on the top of his head.Â
Brian’s head slammed into the marble floor with a heavy thud, knocking out one of his front teeth.Â
He glared at Mindy, hatred burning in his eyes. “You filthy woman, sooner or later I’ll make you pay for this in bed-Â
He didn’t even get to finish before every woman in Blaze Haven went berserk. They all piled on, kicking him one after another, nearly beating him to death.Â
Emily spat right in his face.Â
“If you look down on women so much, then now that you’re a prisoner of women, doesn’t that make you even more pathetic?” Emily sneered.Â
“Bullshit! I was caught by a man, not some woman,” Brian shot back, his neck stiff with defiance.Â
He jutted his chin out, glaring at Chloe with blatant arrogance, practically daring her to react.Â
“Hey, pretty lady, you haven’t-” he started, but before he could finish, someone landed another solid kick right on his head.Â

Chloe watched the drama play out, then with an elegant flick of her wrist, dismissed it all.Â
“From now on, let Frank handle the trivial stuff,” she said, her voice cool and unconcerned.Â
She had bigger things to worry about now.Â
“So what do we do with this guy?” Frank asked, his voice uncertain.Â
“Kill him,” Chloe replied, her voice calm, almost indifferent.Â
Her voice was pleasant, but what she said made Brian shudder.Â
His eyes bulged in panic. “You can’t kill me! I’m a rare second–level powered human! Just let me live, and I’ll even marry you!”Â
As soon as he said that, everyone burst out laughing.Â
“What’s so funny?” he demanded, glaring at the crowd.Â
He thought women were like clothes, easy to change and throw away whenever he felt like it.Â
“Stick with me and you’ll have it all. I’ll run the base, you just enjoy the ride,” he bragged, acting like he was the king of the world.Â
Emily had finally had enough. She grabbed the rope tied around Brian and stormed outside, dragging him across the ground like a sack of potatoes.Â
You ugly chick, what the hell are you doing? I’m supposed to be your future boss!” Brian yelled, still full of himself.Â
Seriously, I can’t listen to this crap anymore,‘ Emily thought.Â
Outside, Brian’s high–pitched scream rang out.Â
And then, just like that, everything was quiet again.Â
Outside Blaze Haven, a few guys were shivering in the cold, whispering to each other.Â
“Why isn’t Brian back yet? You think something happened to him?” one of them muttered, his voice full of worry.Â
I’m freezing my ass off. Shouldn’t we just head back?” another guy whined, his teeth chattering.Â
The short guy next to him shook his head. “Wait a little longer. Brian is probably still inside checking things out.”Â
But as night fell, the howls and screeches of mutant creatures rang out one after another, making the darkness feel creepierÂ
than ever.Â
“Bro, maybe we should just head back?” one of the guys said, his voice trembling.Â
The short guy wavered, glancing around in fear. Finally, he nodded.Â
“Let’s go,” he said, barely above a whisper.Â
But escaping was no walk in the park. They were still trapped, hemmed in by a swarm of mutant plants.Â
Even though they were a whole Blaze Haven away from the Botanic Gardens, it didn’t make a difference. These plants were powerful, their ivies sprawling everywhere, reaching out as far as the eye could see.Â

Outside Blaze Haven that night, the wails and screams echoed through the darkness, but not a soul made it out alive.Â
By morning, where those guys had been standing, there were only a few mummified bodies, sucked dry and twisted inÂ
agony.Â
