Chapter 231Â
Caspian was slung over the Phantom Zombie’s shoulder as it sprinted through the city, jolting him so hard that his head spun and he threw up several times.Â
Suddenly, the Phantom Zombie stopped and hurled him roughly to the ground.Â
It bared its teeth at Caspian, who was wailing, and growled, “Shut up, or I’ll eat you.”Â
Those words instantly silenced him, and his eyes widened with even more terror as he stared at the Phantom Zombie.Â
A zombie that can talk?‘ he muttered to himself, his eyes wide with shock. ‘No way is this the Zombie King? Just my luck. Seriously, is the universe out to get me?‘Â
Just a moment ago, his eyes had been darting around, desperately searching for any chance to escape. But after witnessing the Phantom Zombie’s insane strength and speed, he gave up all hope.Â
He glanced up at the sky one last time, a bitter smile on his face.Â
He figured he wouldnÂ
live to see the sunrise tomorrow.Â

‘Wait, what?‘ he thought, his mind suddenly jolting awake. ‘Why does this place look so familiar?‘Â
He snapped his head up, his lips trembling uncontrollably.Â
‘Isn’t this the exact spot I just tried to run from?‘ he thought, panic rising in his chest.Â
The towering city walls and gates loomed above, covered in moss, with mutated cacti scattered everywhere.Â
‘Oh no, I knew it! This has to be a ghost town, and the Zombie King definitely lives here, he whimpered to himself, dread flooding his heart.Â
As if to confirm his worst fears, the Phantom Zombie roughly grabbed his legs, slung him over its shoulder, and strode past the mutated cacti, heading straight into the city.Â
Caspian’s eyes rolled back, and he passed out from sheer terror.Â
When he finally regained consciousness, Bell’s voice echoed in his ears.Â
“Wake up,” Bell urged.Â
He felt a light pat on his face, and as he slowly opened his eyes, he finally focused on the person in front of him, staring in a daze for a long time without moving his eyes.Â
‘What the heck is happening?‘ he wondered.Â
His three closest friends were all staring at him, worry written all over their faces. The place looked super fancy, and he was sunk into a soft bed, feeling way too comfortable.Â
“Are you three dead too? Is this heaven?” he blurted out, still dazed.Â
As soon as he finished, one of his buddies chimed in with a joking remark.Â
“Man, this is a blessing in disguise. We’re set now!” Orion laughed.Â
Seeing Caspian still looking lost, Orion excitedly grabbed his hand. “This place is called Blaze Haven. It’s like a hidden paradise, man! Can you believe it? They’re actually growing crops again here.”Â

Chapter 231Â
Orion kept talking nonstop, leaving Caspian staring at him in disbelief.Â
Bell chimed in at just the right moment.Â
“Our powers are perfect for this place. We’re gonna do great things here,” Bell said with confidence.Â
Three days went by.Â
With Caspian leading Bell and the other three, they managed to build a machine out of whatever scraps they could find.Â
It was a rye pancake maker, just toss in the ingredients, and out came perfectly round, piping hot rye pancakes.Â
The pancakes came out uniform in size, and the delicious smell of fresh rye filled the air.Â
The irresistible aroma of rye pancakes drifted through Blaze Haven and beyond, lingering all day long.Â
It drove the mutated creatures into a frenzy, launching wild attacks on Blaze Haven’s outer walls.Â
It even drew the attention of jealous survivors, all wanting a piece of Blaze Haven.Â
Out in the woods, a group of survivors was busy taking down mutated rats and a couple of long–legged monsters.Â
Suddenly, someone sniffed the air and glanced at his companions.Â
“Do you guys smell that? Is that food?” he asked, surprised.Â
Everyone nodded. “I thought I was just imagining things, but it really does smell like food.”Â
He sniffed again, taking a couple of deep breaths, then pointed toward the heart of the forest.Â
“The smell’s coming from over there. Should we go check it out?” he suggested.Â
They all looked into the woods. Even though the sun was shining bright, the place/still felt creepy as hell. They all shookÂ
their heads.Â
“NoÂ
way, that’sÂ
too dangerous. Who knows what kind of monsters are hiding in there? Let’s just head back and reportÂ
way this to the base chief,” one of them said.Â
Anyone who’d survived this long in the apocalypse was sharp as a tack. Delicious food showing up suddenly in the middle of nowhere was definitely off.Â
As they left, a few of them kept glancing back, already planning to report everything to the base chief once they got back.Â
Next time, they’d come back with some high–level powered humans to check it out.Â
That day, Chloe got an invitation from Bluehaven Base. When she read what was inside, her eyes instantly lit up.Â
Emily immediately scooted over, all nosy and curious. “What does it say?”Â
Chloe handed her the paper.Â
“Ebony Base?” Emily blinked, totally confused. She’d never even heard of a base with that name.Â
Bell had just come over to report today’s findings, but when he heard the name, he stopped in his tracks.Â
“What? Ebony Base?” Bell blurted out, his voice full of surprise.Â
Chloe and Emily both turned to him. Emily asked. “Wait, you know about this place?”Â

Chapter 231Â
Bell nodded. “It’s a massive base, way bigger than Bluehaven Base, like dozens of times over. There are elite powered humans everywhere, and the population tops ten million.”Â
Emily was totally floored. “Seriously? There’s actually a base that huge? Ten million people? For real?”Â
Even Chloe looked stunned. She’d heard about Ebony Base in her previous life, but never got to see it herself, just knew it was insanely powerful.Â
But a place that strong didn’t last. After the old chief died, things went downhill fast. Word was that some illegitimate son took over, and he was as ruthless and scheming as they come, willing to do anything for power.Â
In the end, the number one base just faded into history.Â
She suddenly remembered, right now, Ebony Base was at its strongest, and the old chief was still alive.Â
Bell’s next words snapped Chloe back to reality.Â
“I heard the old chief finally found his long–lost grandson, and he’s already stepped down from his position,” Bell said.”Â
Chloe looked puzzled. She distinctly remembered that the chief of Ebony Base never found his real grandson and ended up dying in sorrow.Â
‘What’s going on? Did I mess up my memory, or did the butterfly effect from my time travel actually mess with the timeline?‘ Chloe wondered, her mind spinning.Â
Before she could figure it out, Bell dropped a bombshell that hit everyone like a ton of bricks.Â
“The new base chief at Ebony Base is Noah Fletcher. Rumor has it, he seized control with ruthless efficiency and took out anyone who stood in his way,” Bell said, his voice low.Â
Chloe stiffened for just a moment, her eyes flickered, but she recovered so quickly that nobody caught it.Â
Emily and Frank immediately glanced at Chloe, but she looked totally unconcerned, her face calm. They both knew she really wasn’t into Noah at all.Â
“Boss, do you think that Noah could actually be our vice chief?” Emily asked, curious.Â
Frank scratched his scruffy beard. “Maybe it’s just someone with the same name?”Â
Chloe replied casually, “Could be.”Â
‘Honestly, I’m like 80% sure it’s Noah,‘ Chloe thought to herself.Â
After all, there weren’t many people surnamed Fletcher out there, and even their powers are exactly the same.Â
“Yeah, it’s probably just someone with the same name,” Mindy chimed in.Â
Bell suddenly sensed the vibe was getting weird, so he quickly changed the subject. He pulled out a rye pancake and, all excited, said, “Boss, look! These are today’s fresh pancakes, just made!”Â
Chloe had already noticed a warm, comforting aroma lingering in the air, but she never guessed it was coming from the pancakes.Â
These were made from rye with the tough outer shell removed, leaving behind a grayish–brown flour. They looked pretty ordinary, but in this post–apocalyptic world, they were a rare treasure, one of the only real foods left.Â
