They couldn’t see more than three feet ahead, but the mutant zombie tiger could see through the mist and spot anyone. Even the tiniest trace couldn’t escape its vision.Â
The humans slaughtering each other and their terror in the fog delighted the zombie tiger.Â
Just like a cat–and–mouse game, it had to play with its prey to its heart’s content before making the kill.Â
But then, something suddenly showed up that it couldn’t control. This made the zombie tiger furious, but also gave it a rush of excitement.Â
‘Where the hell did she hide? That damned human actually managed to use her power to slip past my senses, the zombie tiger thought.Â
Another roar ripped from its throat, and a cruel grin split its lips.Â
‘Fine, I’ll kill her kind first, then take my time with her,‘ the zombie tiger thought.Â
With a single powerful leap, the massive beast landed right beside the nearest group of humans.Â
The sudden appearance of the mutant zombie tiger sent everyone into a frenzy. They unleashed their powers in desperation, but couldn’t even withstand a single blow from the tiger’s claws before being utterly crushed.Â
Agonized screams filled the air, and blood quickly stained the ground. ·Â
When Chloe stepped out, she caught the mutant zombie tiger in the middle of its slaughter.Â
Without a second thought, she unleashed every ice blade she could summon from the barren mountain inside her spiritual space, sending them flying straight at the tiger’s backside.Â
The instant Chloe appeared, the zombie tiger locked onto her. After that first ambush, it was on high alert and ready for anything.Â
With a single leap, the tiger narrowly avoided the barrage of ice blades and launched a fierce attack right at Chloe.Â
‘Shit!” Chloe barely had time to blurt that out before she bolted back into her spiritual space, patting her chest, still shaken [rom the close call.Â
That thing is a total freak. Aside from its ass, it doesn’t really have any weak spots, Chloe thought.Â
She bit her lip, paused for just a second, and suddenly a brilliant idea popped into her head.Â
First, she crafted a bunch of tiny ice blades, then strapped a grenade to the end of each one.Â
Once she finished, Chloe stepped out of her spiritual space and saw that the beast was back to its killing spree, tearing through humans again.Â
The mutant zombie tiger was only trying to bait Chloe out. As soon as it sensed something moving behind it, it spun around and lunged.Â
But this time, it wasn’t Chloe. It was a giant ice mountain.Â
The mutant zombie tiger moved like lightning. When it crashed headfirst into the ice mountain, cracks spidered across the ice, and the tiger’s skull got a nice little crater knocked into it.Â

Too bad it didn’t even know what pain was. It just blinked in confusion for a split second, then, right in that second, its rear end took another brutal hit.Â
A barrage of ice blades shot through the air like bullets, slamming straight into its backside and vanishing inside in anÂ
instant.Â
One muffled explosion after another rumbled from deep inside the mutant zombie tiger’s gut. Surely, its insides were already torn to shreds, blood and gore splattering everywhere.Â
Its hide was tough as steel, seemingly unbreakable, but inside, its organs and guts were its true Achilles‘ heel.Â
By now, the mutant zombie tiger’s stamina was dropping. It realized it was injured, but it didn’t feel any pain at all.Â
Chloe furrowed her brows and slapped her forehead, feeling annoyed with herself.Â
“How did I forget something so obvious?” Chloe grumbled. “The zombie tiger is still a zombie. Unless I smash its head, there’s no way to kill it.”Â
For the umpteenth time, Chloe dove back into her spiritual space.Â
This is such a pain,‘ she muttered to herself.Â
She barely stayed inside for a minute. She knew if she didn’t show up, that psycho would definitely start slaughtering people again just to blow off steam.Â
She wasn’t exactly big on compassion, but still, they were her own kind. If everyone else were wiped out and she were the last one standing, life would be pretty pointless.Â
She jumped right back into action.Â
This time, Chloe whipped up a bunch of freaky tornadoes, pulverizing the shattered ice mountain and spinning the icy debris inside each whirlwind, all of them zeroing in on the mutant zombie tiger’s skull.Â
Sensing real danger for once, the mutant zombie tiger stood its ground, refusing to budge. Chloe gritted her teeth, using every ounce of her power to spin those sinister tornadoes and try to tear its head clean off.Â
The showdown lasted a grueling thirty minutes.Â
Chloe spat out a mouthful of blood, her whole body drained and shaky. But she’d managed to tear the mutant zombie tiger’s head off by sheer force.Â
After that brutal battle, Chloe was absolutely sure that the mutant zombie tiger’s strength was at least at mid–stage sixth-Â
levelÂ
She forced herself up, legs still shaky and barely able to hold her weight.Â
With a rough swipe at the blood on her lips, she hauled herself over to the tiger’s head and, using the last ounce of her strength, dug out the massive core inside.Â
Her hands shook as she stared at the core, which was the size of a basketball.Â
“No wonder it was so strong,” Chloe muttered. She’d never seen a core this big, not in this life or the last.Â
Just as Chloe was about to dive back into her spiritual space to patch herself up, the system’s voice chimed in. [Congratulations, Host! Mutant zombie tiger slain. Spiritual space upgrade initiated.]Â
Chloe’s lips twitched in exasperation.Â

“System, you just had to pick now, huh? Of all times to upgrade, you choose this moment? How am I supposed to get in there?” she complained.Â
Grumbling aside, she just accepted it, pulled out some bread, and started munching.Â
At Chloe’s current level, bread was pretty much useless. It barely brought her abilities back up to ten percent.Â
After all, Bell and the others who made it were only third–level at best, so they could only put so much power into the bread.Â
With the mutant zombie tiger finally dead, the fog began to fade, revealing a battlefield littered with shattered remains and devastation everywhere Chloe looked.Â
Corpses of all shapes and sizes lay scattered, so mutilated they were barely recognizable, human and mutant beast alike. She released the ivy vines from her spiritual space.Â
The moment the ivy came out, it picked up the heavy scent of blood. Every vine quivered with excitement, humming loudly.Â
“Go on,” Chloe said.Â
With Chloe’s go–ahead, the vines darted off like a bunch of hyper kids, heading straight for the biggest pools of blood.Â
‘No sense letting all that blood just spill for nothing. Might as well make the most of it, Chloe thought.Â
She scanned her surroundings, feeling like she’d landed in a place she’d never seen before. The whole area was trashed, ruins everywhere, weeds taking over, looking just like an abandoned ghost city.Â
After she duked it out with the mutant zombie tiger for what felt like forever, night was creeping in, and not a single person was anywhere to be found.Â
Chloe settled herself on the ground, pulled out a core, and quietly absorbed its energy, keeping a low profile.Â
Night was bound to be even more dangerous, so she needed to recover as much energy as possible.Â
Not far off, two people and a cheetah were making their way through the waist–high grass, moving slowly and cautiously toward her.Â
The guy in front was about 6’1” tall, with a strong, athletic build. His deep eyes carried the kind of commanding presence you only see in someone used to being in charge.Â
“Noah, this place is seriously desolate. Now that the fog’s finally clearing, we should hurry and get out of here while we still can, the guy next to him, named Hector Mason, said.Â
He was about 5’11“, with a round face that still had a bit of baby fat, which looked pretty odd next to his bulky muscles.Â
Hector was scanning the area nervously, afraid some powerful mutant beast might pop out of nowhere. He stuck right by the leader’s side, matching his every step.Â
Seeing Noah ignore him and just keep trailing behind the huge mutant cheetah, he couldn’t help but mutter under his breath.Â
“W–Where exactly is this crazy mutant cheetah trying to drag you? You don’t think it’s about to betray us, do you?” Hector grumbled.Â
Before he could finish, the mutant cheetah in front suddenly stopped, swung its massive head around, and bared its teeth atÂ
him.Â

Hector quickly shut up and hid behind Noah, clearly nervous.Â
“Noah, aren’t you going to step in? It keeps threatening me all the time,” Hector grumbled.Â

Noah walked barefoot through the waist–high grass like it was nothing, his breathing calm and steady. “Just don’t mess with it,” he replied.Â
“Seriously, where are we even going? It feels like we’re getting deeper and deeper into nowhere. Weren’t we supposed to meet your fiancée?” Hector asked.Â
Hector’s endless questions were giving Noah a headache. Just thinking about his fiancée, whom he’d never even met, made him feel even more annoyed.Â
“Hector, shut up,” Noah snapped.Â
Hector was the guy who stood at 6 feet tall, with muscles everywhere, but somehow still had a baby face.Â
He quickly shut up, but less than a minute later, he was chattering away again. “Noah, do you think the mutant cheetah just spotted some massive creature?” he asked.Â
“Noah, are you sure we shouldn’t go look for your fiancée? What if we end up in a dead end? We’ll have a hard time explaining ourselves,” Hector continued. “Noah-”Â
But Noah didn’t say a word, just picked up the pace, ignoring him completely.Â
Hector stopped in his tracks, fuming. “Noah, are you even hearing me?”Â
Noah didn’t even bother to turn around; he just left him with a cold shoulder. “If you don’t want to come, then stay behind.”Â
Hector glanced around at the creepy surroundings, ducked his head, and jogged to catch up. “Hmph, you think you can shake me off? Dream on,” he muttered.Â
Chloe had just finished talking to the system and learned she’d be locked out of the spiritual space for a whole week. That left her totally speechless.Â
If she’d known this was coming, she never would’ve let the core get absorbed in the spiritual space. Of course, it had to fail right when she needed it most.Â
At least, while the spiritual space was upgrading, it wasn’t totally locked down. She could still grab stuff from inside. Otherwise, she’d really be screwed.Â
She sprinkled insect repellent powder all around, then got her tent ready and set up camp right on the spot.Â
The tent was a breeze to set up, just pull it out, and it popped into shape by itself. She just had to secure the corners with a few stakes.Â
She set up dozens of animal traps around the tent before finally heading insideÂ
She inflated the air mattress, grabbed a thin blanket, and sprawled out on top.Â
Late at night, Bluchaven was shrouded in a creepy atmosphere. The wind whispered through the tall grass, and Chloe drifted off to sleep to the haunting cries and wild howls echoing all around.Â
She had no idea if those sounds came from mutant beasts or just bugs. Either way, they gave her goosebumps.Â

A few months ago, a huge hailstorm had wiped out most of the zombies, and even now, a faint rotten smell lingered in the air.Â
Oddly enough, one would expect to see zombie and mutant beast corpses everywhere after that, but for some reason, there wasn’t a single one in sight.Â
After only about half an hour of sleep, Chloe felt a bit less tired. She pulled some cores out of her spiritual space and began to absorb them.Â
Most of the high–level cores she’d hunted down had already been fed to the spiritual space for upgrades, so she barely had any left for herself. The ones she was absorbing now could only get her strength back up to about sixty percent.Â
Suddenly, a piercing screech from a mutant beast rang out from outside.Â
Inside the tent, Chloe sat cross–legged on her air mattress, holding a core in each palm as she absorbed their energy.Â
At the sound, she opened her eyes, a fierce glint flashing within.Â
A faint layer of ice slowly formed around her body, her protective shield. Even in the blazing summer heat, it wouldn’t melt easily.Â
She unzipped the tent and saw a massive rat, roughly a few cubic feet in size, its paw caught in one of the traps. Its two red eyes were especially unsettling in the darkness.Â
The mutant rat was fat, with a pointed head, and when it screeched, its razor–sharp teeth flashed in the night.Â
As soon as it spotted Chloe, it kept squeaking at her, as if trying to threaten her.Â
Chloe didn’t budge, her gaze sweeping the area, alert for any movement.Â
It was a third–level mutant rat.Â
If it was just one, no big deal, but mutant rats always ran in packs. She could bet there was a whole swarm lurking nearby.Â
Chloe fired off an ice arrow, nailing the rat right through the gut. Blood, dark and thick, splattered across the ground.Â
She hurriedly packed up her tent and tried to get out of there as fast as she could. But she was already too late.Â
Somehow, without her noticing, the pitch–black darkness around her was suddenly filled with countless red eyes, staring from every direction.Â
Each eye glowed like a lit red lantern, flickering in the night, making her skin crawl. Even Chloe found herself nervously swallowing, unable to hide her fear.Â
I’m totally screwed, Chloe thought.Â
Her strength was only back up to about sixty percent, and those internal injuries from the zombie tiger still hadn’t healed, Worst of all, her spiritual space was off–limits right now, just her luck.Â
She gave an awkward grin to all those pairs of glowing red eyes staring her down.Â
“Uh, hey, I’m just passing by. You guys buy that?” she said.Â
From somewhere in the distance, Chloe caught a faint, mocking laugh, definitely human.Â
She scanned the area, but saw no one. Still, Chloe could tell someone was definitely around.Â

‘Bet they’ve been watching me for ages, Chloe thought.Â

Since they still hadn’t shown themselves, she figured they were just here for the drama, not planning to help at all. She flashed a sly grin, her eyes sparkling with mischief.Â
‘No big deal, she thought to herself.Â
Out of nowhere, a tranquilizer gun appeared in her hand, but instead of tranquilizer, it was loaded with a special drug she’d just developed.Â
She aimed the gun toward the direction from which the laugh had come from behind her.Â
Hector’s jaw dropped as he muttered, “Noah, she totally spotted us. Can she actually see us?”Â
Because of his special powers, Hector could see in the dark, even if everything was just a fuzzy blur. Still, a gun that huge, pointed right at him, was impossible to miss.Â
Before Noah could even respond, Chloe had already pulled the trigger and fired straight at them.Â
Hector jumped in surprise and instinctively dodged. The syringe jabbed into his jacket, and the liquid oozed out, leaving a wet patch on the fabric.Â
“Damn, what is this stuff? It reeks.” Hector muttered.Â
Before he could finish, his eyes went wide. “Holy shit, what the hell is going on?”Â
All those mutant rats, hundreds of feet away, suddenly turned and charged straight at him, as if on cue.Â
“Hey, give me a lift, will you?” Hector called out to the mutant cheetah.Â
The mutant cheetah let out a thunderous roar. The roar was so earth–shattering that the shockwave alone sent the mutant rats flying.Â
It shot Hector a look like he was the last thing it wanted to see, baring its fangs at him in annoyance.Â
That woman’s way too clever. If you even try to mess with her, you’re dead meat, the mutant cheetah thought grimly.Â
Noah sensed something was wrong. His gaze turned icy as he stared at the figure fleeing in the distance, then glanced at the damp spot on Hector’s shirt.Â
“Take off your shirt and get rid of it,” Noah ordered.Â
Hector didn’t really get it, but he still followed Noah’s instructions.Â
The two of them climbed onto the mutant cheetah’s back, and Noah instructed it to head back.Â
“Blitz, head back now, Noah said.Â
The mutant cheetah hesitated, pacing in circles, not sure what to do.Â
‘Ugh, now what?‘ Blitz thought, totally stumped. ‘She looks hurt. Is she going to die? Imph! If she croaks, serves her right, She used to freak me out all the time. But I don’t want her to die. What am I supposed to do?Â
‘Noah is such a blockhead. He finally found a girl he actually likes. Should I just go help her out?Â
