Chapter 252Â
Hector quickly shut up and hid behind Noah, clearly nervous.Â
“Noah, aren’t you going to step in? It keeps threatening me all the time, Hector grumbled.Â

Noah walked barefoot through the waist–high grass like it was nothing, his breathing calm and steady. “Just don’t mess with it,” he replied.Â
“Seriously, where are we even going? It feels like we’re getting deeper and deeper into nowhere. Weren’t we supposed to meet your fiancée?” Hector asked.Â
Hector’s endless questions were giving Noah a headache. Just thinking about his fiancée, whom he’d never even met, made him feel even more annoyed.Â
“Hector, shut up,” Noah snapped.Â
Hector was the guy who stood at 6 feet tall, with muscles everywhere, but somehow still had a baby face.Â
He quickly shut up, but less than a minute later, he was chattering away again. “Noah, do you think the mutant cheetah just spotted some massive creature?” he asked.Â
“Noah, are you sure we shouldn’t go look for your fiancée? What if we end up in a dead end? We’ll have a hard time explaining ourselves,” Hector continued. “Noah-”Â
But Noah didn’t say a word, just picked up the pace, ignoring him completely.Â
Hector stopped in his tracks, fuming. “Noah, are you even hearing me?”Â
Noah didn’t even bother to turn around; he just left him with a cold shoulder. “If you don’t want to come, then stay behind.”Â
Hector glanced around at the creepy surroundings, ducked his head, and jogged to catch up. “Hmph, you think you can shake me off? Dream on,” he muttered.Â
Chloe had just finished talking to the system and learned she’d be locked out of the spiritual space for a whole week. That left her totally speechless.Â
If she’d known this was coming, she never would’ve let the core get absorbed in the spiritual space. Of course, it had to fail right when she needed it most.Â
At least, while the spiritual space was upgrading, it wasn’t totally locked down. She could still grab stuff from inside. Otherwise, she’d really be screwed.Â
She sprinkled insect repellent powder all around, then got her tent ready and set up camp right on the spot.Â
The tent was a breeze to set up, just pull it out, and it popped into shape by itself. She just had to secure the corners with a few stakes.Â
She set up dozens of animal traps around the teny before finally heading inside.Â
She inflated the air mattress, grabbed a thin blanket, and sprawled out on top.Â
Late at night, Bluehaven was shrouded in a creepy atmosphere. The wind whispered through the tall grass, and Chloe drifted off to sleep to the haunting cries and wild howls echoing all around.Â
She had no idea if those sounds came from mutant beasts or just bugs. Either way, they gave her goosebumps.Â
A few months ago, a huge hailstorm had wiped out most of the zombies, and even now, a faint rotten smell lingered in theÂ

Oddly enough, one would expect to see zombie and mutant beast corpses everywhere after that, but for some reason, there wasn’t a single one in sight.Â
After only about half an hour of sleep, Chloe felt a bit less tired. She pulled some cores out of her spiritual space and began to absorb them.Â
Most of the high–level cores she’d hunted down had already been fed to the spiritual space for upgrades, so she barely had any left for herself. The ones she was absorbing now could only get her strength back up to about sixty percent.Â
Suddenly, a piercing screech from a mutant beast rang out from outside.Â
Inside the tent, Chloe sat cross–legged on her air mattress, holding a core in each palm as she absorbed their energy.Â
At the sound, she opened her eyes, a fierce glint flashing within.Â
A faint layer of ice slowly formed around her body, her protective shield. Even in the blazing summer heat, it wouldn’t melt easily.Â
She unzipped the tent and saw a massive rat, roughly a few cubic feet in size, its paw caught in one of the traps. Its two red eyes were especially unsettling in the darkness.Â
The mutant rat was fat, with a pointed head, and when it screeched, its razor–sharp teeth flashed in the night.Â
As soon as it spotted Chloe, it kept squeaking at her, as if trying to threaten her.Â
Chloe didn’t budge, her gaze sweeping the area, alert for any movement.Â
It was a third–level mutant rat.Â
If it was just one, no big deal, but mutant rats always ran in packs. She could bet there was a whole swarm lurking nearby.Â
Chloe fired off an ice arrow, nailing the rat right through the gut. Blood, dark and thick, splattered across the ground.Â
She hurriedly packed up her tent and tried to get out of there as fast as she could. But she was already too late.Â
Somehow, without her noticing, the pitch–black darkness around her was suddenly filled with countless red eyes, staring from every direction.Â
Each eye glowed like a lit red lantern, flickering in the night, making her skin crawl. Even Chloe found herself nervously swallowing, unable to hide her fear.Â
I’m totally screwed, Chloe thought.Â
Her strength was only back up to about sixty percent, and those internal injuries from the zombie tiger still hadn’t healed. Worst of all, her spiritual space was off–limits right now, just her luck.Â
She gave an awkward grin to all those pairs of glowing red eyes staring her down.Â
“Uh, hey, I’m just passing by. You guys buy that?” she said.Â
From somewhere in the distance, Chloe caught a faint, mocking laugh, definitely human.Â
She scanned the area, but saw no one. Still, Chloe could tell someone was definitely around.Â
‘Bet they’ve been watching me for ages, Chloe thought.Â
Since they still hadn’t shown themselves, she figured they were just here for the drama, not planning to help at all. SheÂ

flashed a sly grin, her eyes sparkling with mischief.Â
No big deal, she thought to herself.Â

Out of nowhere, a tranquilizer gun appeared in her hand, but instead of tranquilizer, it was loaded with a special drug she’d just developed.Â
She aimed the gun toward the direction from which the laugh had come from behind her.Â
Hector’s jaw dropped as he muttered, “Noah, she totally spotted us. Can she actually see us?”Â
Because of his special powers, Hector could see in the dark, even if everything was just a fuzzy blur. Still, a gun that huge. pointed right at him, was impossible to miss.Â
Before Noah could even respond, Chloe had already pulled the trigger and fired straight at them.Â
Hector jumped in surprise and instinctively dodged. The syringe jabbed into his jacket, and the liquid oozed out, leaving a wet patch on the fabric.Â
“Damn, what is this stuff? It reeks,” Hector muttered.Â
Before he could finish, his eyes went wide. “Holy shit, what the hell is going on?”Â
All those mutant rats, hundreds of feet away, suddenly turned and charged straight at him, as if on cue.Â
“Hey, give me a lift, will you?” Hector called out to the mutant cheetah.Â
The mutant cheetah let out a thunderous roar. The roar was so earth–shattering that the shockwave alone sent the mutant rats flying.Â
It shot Hector a look like he was the last thing it wanted to see, baring its fangs at him in annoyance.Â
That woman’s way too clever. If you even try to mess with her, you’re dead meat, the mutant cheetah thought grimly.Â
Noah sensed something was wrong. His gaze turned icy as he stared at the figure fleeing in the distance, then glanced at the damp spot on Hector’s shirt.Â
“Take off your shirt and get rid of it,” Noah ordered.Â
Hector didn’t really get it, but he still followed Noah’s instructions.Â
The two of them climbed onto the mutant cheetah’s back, and Noah instructed it to head back.Â
“Blitz, head back now, Noah said.Â
The mutant cheetah hesitated, pacing in circles, not sure what to do.Â
“Ugh, now what? Blitz thought, totally stumped. She looks hurt. Is she going to die! Hmph! If she croaks, serves her right She used to freak me out all the time. But I don’t want her to die. What am I supposed to do?Â
‘Noah is such a blockhead. He finally found a girl he actually likes Should I just go help her out?Â
