Chapter 223

Jade sat in a corner of the room, watching the crowd get drunk, with a cold expression.

“Jade, a director recently approached me about a historical drama. Should we do a reunion project? The online buzz for us collaborating again is pretty loud.” 

The one who came up to talk was Francis, the male lead in a short play that Jade just finished today. With several episodes already released, the two had amassed a passionate army of shippers. 

She took a sip of fruit wine and changed into her perfunctory look. “Francis, the voices on the Internet don’t represent anything. We shouldn’t rely too much on shippers now. It’s not good for you and me.” 

The smile on Francis’s face faded a bit. “That’s right, but we can also transform them later, right?” 

“Transformation? I have never seen any female artist take advantage of the transformation of shippers. A drama is a drama, and I will cooperate with the publicity later.” 

“Jade, do you have a problem with me? Or did I do something to make you unhappy? Or are you in a bad mood today?” 

Francis still didn’t realize that Jade was a little impatient with him. After all, when they were filming before, the two had all kinds of intimate interactions.

Jade chuckled and gave a perfunctory smile. “Yeah, I should. We’re friends.” 

After Francis left, her assistant came to her side, “Jade, is Francis interested in you? He has been looking at you several times, intentionally or unintentionally.” 

“Does it matter? And how can you be sure that he is looking at me?” Jade looked indifferent, closed her eyes slightly and fell asleep, and asked back. 

Her assistant said, “I’m just guessing. Where will I send you back after the end? Back to the previous apartment? Or?” 

“You don’t need to send me Jade was a little irritable. She was really tired now, so she wanted to lie down quietly and rest for a while, but everyone came over to chat with her. 

She thought that after her assistant left, she’d finally have some peace, but she thought too much. 

Klein sat next to her with a fruit plate. Jade, thinking it was yet another random, unwelcome person, closed her eyes and grumbled, “I want to rest right now. Can we talk later, please?” 

“Tired like this?” Klein raised his eyebrows, but he didn’t do much, and teased with a bit of a joke. 

Hearing the familiar voice, Jade opened her eyes, a little annoyed, “Klein, it’s you. I thought it was someone else, one atter 

another.”

The response to the short play is not bad at the moment. What are your plans next?” Klein handed the fruit plate to her. “Eat a little. You can rest recently. There is no need to strictly control your diet.” 

Jade took the fruit platter, speared a cherry, and popped it into her mouth. She immediately frowned. “So sour…” 

“Klein, how did you choose such a sour cherry?” Jade was still very relaxed in front of Klein, at least she didn’t need to wear that hypocritical mask. 

She continued, as if talking to herself, “I think I need to take a few days off. I’ve been working nonstop lately, and my body just can’t keep up anymore. Also, I heard you’re planning to put me on a variety show?” 

“Yes. It’s a laid–back variety show, mostly centered around you.” Klein replied, crossing his legs as he leaned back beside her. “Right now, the celebrities signed on are all pretty big names, so the exposure should be great.” 

Jade said, “Oh. But… would it really be appropriate? If the other guests are all A–listers, people will just say I got in through connections. The backlash might outweigh the benefits.” 

“Besides.” Jade added, tilting her head slightly toward Klein, “if I do variety shows now, won’t it ruin fans‘ immersion later when I go back to acting? They might struggle to see me as my characters anymore.” 

Klein nodded with satisfaction. “You have grown up. Before, you wouldn’t miss this opportunity. You are right. Actors should not participate in too many variety shows, which will make the audience feel worse. But a proper variety show will also attract some fans. There are real acting fans, but some just like the character of one of your dramas. 

“That’s exactly why we need to strategically pivot and capitalize on opportunities. Right now, your follower count is surging across all platforms. You’ve already hit three million on Twitter. Let’s set a milestone: breaking the five–million mark.” 

Only after actually entering this industry did Jade realize how deceptively complex it could be. Online opinions about her were a mixed bag, swinging between praise and criticism. 

She didn’t particularly mind hate. After all, she’d always believed that even anti–fans were just another stepping stone to fame. The process might be unpleasant, but the results spoke for themselves. 

Since the last time the two reached an agreement, Jade had been listening to Klein’s words. “Okay, Klein, everything will be as you say, and I will listen to you.” 

“A slow–paced variety show would work, or even an interview, but I need three days off first.” Jade was really tired, especially after learning that Calvert seemed to be accompanying Ash on a trip. She was not in the mood to care about all sorts of things. 

Klein looked at her with a slight change in his eyes, “Jade, I shouldn’t ask too much about your personal affairs, but you have to be clear about which is more important. You are currently on the rise, so don’t let some things affect your plans. 

“Jade, many times, I hope you put yourself first. Don’t make yourself wrong. Klein admired Jade very much. 

Jade had the kind of drive he liked, but also the naked desire to climb up. 

She didn’t speak, and nodded for a while, “I see, Klein, I’ll take three days off first. Just treat it as a vacation for me, okay?” 

“Of course you’ll get your break. Three days is hardly enough. I’ve been reviewing scripts for you lately. You can rest until the slow–variety show starts, which gives you about a week. The show’s filming will take roughly another week, and then you’ll be ready to join the new production.” 

Klein kept her schedule relatively light, leaving her with ample time to recharge. 

“Thank you, Klein. Jade smiled and thanked him.
