beer buat may arrived at the door. He knocked lightly, but there was no response

The night before, he had woken from a nightmare, her screams echoing throughout the entire building. Calvert couldn’t sha Bw

awake the rest of the night, fearing something else might happen.

Pening from Fordarown, he hadn’t rested for two days and a night. His eyes were bloodshot, and his voice hoarse.

ki konek-

Sall there was no respe

Calvert frowned slightly, pausing for a moment before pressing the door handle. He opened the door, revealing a dark room with rightly drawn curtains. The only light came from the hallway, spilling into the room and gently illuminating her figure.

She was lying on the couch, sleeping soundly and peacefully. Calvert’s irritation melted away at that moment. He stepped inside and quietly closed the door behind him. He thought, I should wake her up. But he didn’t.

The room was pitch black. Calvert moved cautiously, his steps slow and deliberate, as he found the couch across from hers and sat down. He leaned back, resting his head against the cushions, his eyes closing. The silence in the room was so deep that he could hear the soft rhythm of their hearts beating in sync.

Calvert appeared to be resting, but sleep was far from his thoughts. Somehow, he had become hyperaware of every movement Ash made.

Every subtle movement Ash made seemed to stir something inside him. They were supposed to have a professional relationship, and there were so many things he didn’t need to do. Yet, whenever it came to making her happy, he couldn’t help but act on it.

Knock, knock knock-

The silence in the room stretched on, and with Ash nearby, his thoughts began to race. Gradually, fatigue overcame him, and he slipped into a deep sleep.

But it wasn’t long before a knock at the door broke the quiet.

Ash, can I come in?”

Dorothy’s voice was deep and steady. Are you resting?”

The sound of the voice and the knock at the door jolted Ash awake from her deep sleep. Her head spun, and she groggily ran a hand through her hair, pushing herself up from the couch.

She opened her eyes to complete darkness, fumbling around for her phone, but couldn’t find it. The light switch was near the door. Dorothy, you can come in.”

With no other choice, she allowed Dorothy to open the door from the outsidesearching for the switch in the dark would only risk her stumbling,

When Dorothy opened the door, light poured into the room, causing Ash to briefly squint and close her eyes.

Why is Calvert here? Dorothy asked. The light from the hallway was enough to illuminate the room, even though the lights weren’t on yet. She quickly spotted Calvert resting on the couch.

Chapter 232

Calvert stirred, waking from his light sleep, and slowly opened his eyes. His voice was rough as he spoke. I was just resting

here for a moment.”

Ash blinked in confusion, realizing she hadn’t noticed Calvert come in. She thought, How tired am I? I slept so soundly, I didn’t hear a thing.

When did you come in?Ash asked.

Not long ago,Calvert replied, still sitting with a hint of exhaustion visible on his face.

She nodded. Dorothy, did you just come back? How is Vania doing? I was worried about upsetting her mood if I went in right away when I arrived.”

Dorothy sighed at the mention of Vania. She’s not doing well. You’re lucky you didn’t go in; her mood is low, and she might say something harsh.”

Ash, it’s probably best if you don’t see her for now. Being around too many people will likely make her mood worse. I don’t mean anything by it, Ash,Dorothy said softly.

Ash nodded. Dorothy, there’s no need to explain. I understand. Vania has never been particularly fond of me. I just came today to check on her and see if they’ve found anyone yet.”

Dorothy took Ash’s hand gently. Good girl, I’m glad you understand. Vania doesn’t dislike you. It’s just that you’ve known each other for such a short time. And with Jade before, this isn’t anyone’s fault.”

You two should spend more time together,” Dorothy said. Vania’s just been spoiled by all of us.She wasn’t trying to defend Vania, but she didn’t want any misunderstandings among the younger generation.

I understand, Dorothy. You don’t need to explain further. Have they found any leads? Has the identity been confirmed?Ash said.

Calvert spoke calmly, We’ve found something, but the identity is fake. We have a photo, and they’ve likely used a disguise. The Riverstone system doesn’t match their face.”

Could it be someone from out of town? It’s not unusual for people not to be from Riverstone,” Ash suggested. But if they’ve used a disguise, it should eventually crack. Is Vania still unwilling to talk about it?”

He nodded slightly. So far, we haven’t been able to get anything from Vania. We’re already comparing surveillance footage. This person came prepared and had a wellthoughtout plan.”

Ash fell silent for a moment. Do we have any suspects? Or has she had conflicts with anyone recently?she asked aloud.

We’re still investigating. So far, we’ve confirmed through one of Vania’s friends that they haven’t known each other for long. They’ve only met a few times in person, though they were in regular contact online.”

The account has been deleted, and the IP address we traced is also fakesomeone’s been covering their tracks.”

Ash furrowed her brow. Has there been any financial fraud?”

Calvert was silent for a moment. There was none. It wasn’t about moneyit was about deliberately humiliating Vania, which meant a personal vendetta was behind it.

Vania’s social circle was small, and it was likely that this person was targeting Calvert, using Vanía as a stepping stone to get to

him first.

Though it was just her guess, Ash didn’t say it out loud. I’ve also had people look into her recent movements. We’re re- investigating everything.”

By the way, could you provide me with the account information? I have a friend who’s quite skilled in this area. We might

Crating something out of nothing was one of Ash’s favorite tactics.

Dorothy, who had been listening quietly, spoke up. “Ash, thank you for caring so much about Vania. You must have met Jade by now, right? She’s staying here because Vania is willing to talk to her.”

1 asked her to stay and help. I was planning to tell you about it, but I haven’t found the right moment these past few days. I hope you don’t misunderstand.”

At that moment, Dorothy decided to explain the situation to Calvert. It was always better to clarify things in person than to try to explain later.

I understand, it’s fine. Right now, Vania’s wellbeing is the priority. If Jade staying here helps her, that’s all that matters. I don’t misunderstand anything. Dorothy, you don’t need to explainI trust her.”

Dorothy smiled at her response. Noticing Calvert’s lack of reaction, she raised her hand and playfully slapped his arm. Calvert, can’t you at least show some gratitude?”

Thank you for trusting me.”

Don’t mention it. It’s the least I could do.”
