Chapter 306
Michelle’s family lives in a rundown apartment complex on the outskirts of Betrico.
Michelle rented this apartment for her family.
Michelle’s family wasn’t local. They were from Rainpoton. But after Michelle got accepted into Petrico University they relocated to Betrico with Moira’s help.
Simon led Nina and Ryan to Michelle’s place.
Nina frowned slightly as she took in the surroundings. “Didn’t Moira rent an apartment for Michelle near the university?
She didn’t really know Michelle before. She’d only heard Moira mention the girl she was sponsoring every now and then
Nina recalled Moira saying that Michelle was really smart and got into a great university. Moira even rented an apartment near campus for her so that she could bring her family over and focus on her studies without any worries.
Since Moira was sponsoring Michelle, the apartment should be near Betrico University.
There was no way they should be living in a rundown place like this, out in the middle of nowhere.
Mona paid 30 thousand dollars a year just for the rent alone.
Even if they had to settle for something less ideal, they’d at least pick somewhere a bit closer to Betrico University, not a place that was a two–hour commute from campus.
Simon pursed his lips. “You’d better see for yourself.”
Nina gave Simon a glance and headed upstairs silently.
Michelle’s family lived on the fifth floor, behind one of those old metal security doors. Not even a doorbell in sight.
But as soon as Nina, Simon, and Ryan got to the door, they heard gut–wrenching cries coming from inside.
“Mom! I don’t want to get married! Please, just give me two more years. Once I graduate, I can earn money for you. Please, don’t marry me off to Mr. Weir.
“He had three wives already, and they all died from his abuse. If I end up with him, I’ll be dead, too!” Michelle sobbed, her voice trembling with fear.
“You ungrateful brat, you don’t get a say in this family. If you hadn’t taken away your sister’s chance at an education, you wouldn’t have lived a good life these past few years.
“We let you go to school for the sake of your sponsor. But she hasn’t reached out recently. It’s almost the end of the year and not a dime has come in. Looks like she’s given up on you.
“Quit complaining and just do as you’re told. Go marry him. We’ve raised you all these years, and now it’s time for you to repay us. Mr. Weir is offering 300 thousand as a bride price. You’re a lucky girl,” Wynter snapped.
“Michelle, come on, what’s the use of all that book smarts? You’re gonna get married like everyone else, no matter how much you study. Mom and Dad busted their backs raising you, and we’re still crammed in this dump.
“Mr. Weir agreed to offer us 300 thousand for the bride price. We can buy a decent house. It’ll make it easier for me to find a wife, right?” Seth tried to persuade her.

My sister sent me to deliver this year’s tention to Michelle, Nina said calmly.
Yard’s eyes sparkled, “You’re here with the money?
She swing the door open in a hurry, “Come on in, quick”
Then she shouted back into the apartment, “Mom, Dad! Michelle’s sponsor’s friend is here to deliver money!”
There was a moment of silence, then a middle–aged man and woman, both around fifty, came rushing out.
When they saw Nina, they were momentarily taken aback. They never expected Michelle’s sponsor’s friend to be so pretty.
But soon enough, a flicker of contempt flashed in Wynter’s eyes. Rumor had it her sponsor was an escort.
If that was true, her friend was probably cut from the same cloth.
Sull, Wynter forced a smile and ushered them inside. “Come in, please! It’s been ages since you sent Michelle’s tuition. I was starting to think you’d stopped sponsoring her?

Only everything Michelle wore added up to less than 20 bucks.
Nina gave a faint smile, her eyes briefly scanning the room before settling on Wynter. Im Nina Swanson”
“Welcome, Ms. Swanson! Honestly, you could’ve sent the money to Michelle. No need to go through all this trouble. Wys said, her eyes gleaming with greed. She held out her hands, expecting Nina to hand over the cash on the spot.
Nina shot a glance at her open hands, her gaze cool and steady. She just stared at Wynter without saying a word.
Wynter waited for a bit, but Nina did nothing. She put on a smile and said, ‘M. Swanson, you can give me the try I’ll keep it for Michelle. This place isn’t safe. If people find out we’ve got cash, it might get swiped”
