“I asked Rex yesterday, and he said Cassian was the one who rescued me back then. So I don’t get why you kept it from me? Aurelia said. 

“It was Cassian’s call, Darren admitted. “He didn’t want you to know about it.” 

I just don’t get why Cassian would do that, Aurelia thought, feeling genuinely puzzled. 

“I honestly have no idea. I’m really sorry I kept this from you,” Darren said, apologetic. 

Who was she supposed to blame, anyway?‘ Aurelia thought. 

After all, Cassian was the one who wanted it kept secret. 

Maybe because she’d mentioned Cassian, Darren decided to share a bit more. “At the Sands family’s birthday banquet the other day, was it Cassian who kicked Juliana’s bodyguard?” 

Aurelia didn’t deny it, simply acknowledging he was right. 

“Juliana’s the type who holds a grudge forever. She’s got a nasty temper and never lets anything slide. She’s definitely going to come after Cassian,” Darren said. 

He paused, glanced at Aurelia, then added, “If it were before, I wouldn’t be worried. But these days, the Sands family wouldn’t have much trouble messing with him.” 

After all, the Locke Group didn’t have any real influence in Grendel. 

And besides being Benjamin’s only son, Cassian was basically a stranger to the company. He wasn’t involved at all. 

The whole city knew that the father and son barely spoke to each other. 

After that incident a few years ago, Cassian pretty much vanished from the public eye. 

Word on the street was that Benjamin Locke had even disowned him. 

Otherwise, when Cassian was in trouble, why didn’t the Locke family lift a finger to help him? 

Even after he resurfaced, they never brought him back into the Locke Group. 

There were all sorts of rumors going around, but no one knew what really happened. 

“Rex’s got a team ready to follow your orders whenever you need,” Darren said, leaving it at that. 

He knew Aurelia could handle things herself, so he respected her boundaries and stayed out of it. 

Just as he was about to leave, Darren remembered something and turned back to Aurelia. “I heard the head of InquireMind is in Grendel now. Most of the business crowd here won’t work with them out of respect for me, but you know how it goes. There’s always someone who can’t resist the temptation.” 

“After all, it’s business. Profit has a way of moving people. 

“I’ve heard that Borealis has been getting pretty close to InquireMind lately,” Darren added, giving her a heads–up. 

“Got it,” Aurelia replied. 

That night, after Aurelia finished her shower and got into bed, Joey immediately snuggled up to her.

“So, are you going to see her again tomorrow? Jasper asked. 

“I am.” Cassian replied. 

“What’s your excuse this time?” Jasper pressed. 

“Haven’t figured it out yet Cassian said. 

Today, he showed up with an umbrella, pretending it was just to give it to her. 

But tomorrow’s forecast said there wouldn’t be any rain at all. 

Cassian drained his glass, sprawled out for a bit, then suddenly shot upright 

The abrupt move made Jasper jump. 

“Get up, you’re coming with me,” Cassian said. 

Jasper checked the time. 

‘It’s already eleven. Where the hell does he want to go at this hour?‘ Jasper thought. 

Cassian waited until they were out the door before telling Jasper where they were headed. 

The seafood market! 

Jasper finally broke down. “Seriously, why are we heading to the seafood market in the middle of the nigh 

“I’m getting seafood so I can make Aurelia her favorite seafood,” Cassian said, determined. 

Jasper was about ready to yell for someone to save him! 

‘Seriously, is there anyone who can actually rein Cassian in?‘ Jasper thought, feeling totally at his wits end.
