It was no longer the tough–as–nails soldiers running the show. Now, the base was under the control of high–level powered 

humans. 

That was the main reason Bluchaven Base stopped following orders from then on

A group of doctors in white coats clustered around the bed, and the whole room reeked of disinfectant. 

Harrison’s face was stormy as he leaned heavily on his cane, jabbing it hard into the floor. 

“What’s going on here? Why hasn’t Jaiden woken up yet?” Harrison demanded. 

The doctors in white coats went completely silent, too scared to even breathe. 

“Speak,” Harrison snapped.

The chief doctor, visibly nervous, replied, “We’ve already sent someone to fetch Joseph. He should be arriving any moment now.” 

Harrison let out a cold snort, “Joseph is always putting on airs just because he’s the only one with a healing ability. He doesn’t show the Linville family any respect. In the future-” 

Before he could finish, an announcement came from outside. 

Joseph has arrived,” someone announced. 

Harrison’s demeanor instantly shifted from cold to warm, and he rushed over to welcome him. 

“Joseph, you’re really hard to invite,” Harrison said, suddenly all smiles. 

Months had passed since their trip to Lakeside, and Jaiden was still out cold. 

To make matters worse, the best and brightest of the Linville family, hundreds of powered humans, had gone on that mission, and not a single one made it back.

Joseph was in his forties, standing ramrod straight with an air of authority. His camouflage uniform and brisk stride screamed military toughness. 

He used to be a medic in the army, but as soldiers died off one after another, the powered humans took over the ranks. 

He was worried sick but powerless to change anything. 

If it hadn’t been for that old bastard rallying the families and guilt–tripping the soldiers into leading every charge against mutant beasts, they wouldn’t have ended up nearly wiped out. 

“Humph! Now he comes begging me for help?‘ Joseph scoffed inwardly.

Harrison’s expression soured. “Whatever, you’re here now. Just check Jaiden How’s he doing?” 

Joseph gave Jaiden a quick glance and shook his head. 

“He’s messed up pretty bad. So many top guys went out, and this is what we get? Joseph said. He was practically grinning pretending to be all heartbroken and confused. 

Jaliyah angrily stomped her foot. 

“It was all that bitch’s fault. If I ever run into her again, I’ll flay her alive and rip out her tendons, Jaliyah spat.
