Harrison’s face darkened. “Jaliyah!” he snapped. 

His voice was stern, laced with warning, and Jaliyah’s legs went weak. 

She lowered her head, pouting. “Alright, Grandpa.”

“Jacob, take her away and teach her what it means to be a Linville heiress,” Harrison ordered. 

“Yes, sir,” Jacob replied. 

After Jaliyah left, Harrison called Ishaan over. 

“Remind me again about Chloe,” Harrison said. 

He’d heard it countless times. 

However, when he heard how Chloe had lured mutant beasts to that island in Lakeside and had them attack the Linville family’s powered humans, Harrison’s chest burned with rage, and his face turned dark. 

“Chloe Yates!” Harrison shouted. 

The Linville family will make you pay for this, he swore to himself. 

Just then, Ishaan glanced nervously at Harrison, but couldn’t hold back any longer. 

“Grandpa, it was not exactly like that. Honestly, it was mostly Jaliyah and Dad who had been causing trouble for her. Ishaan

All of a sudden, Harrison fixed him with a piercing stare. 

“What did you just say?” he snapped. 

Ishaan felt a chill run down his spine and quickly corrected himself, 

“I… I didn’t say anything,” he stammered. 

“Humph! When the Linville family goes after her, it’s because we even bother to acknowledge her. If she dares to fight back. she’s digging her own grave,” Harrison scoffed. 

Ishaan kept quiet, but couldn’t help curling his lip in silent mockery. 

‘Sure, she’s the one diggingher own grave. She managed to wipe out hundreds of our so–called elite, he thought sarcastically. Suddenly, someone shouted from outside. 

“Bad news! Bad news! Reliable sources say massive locust outbreaks are happening all over the world. They’re attacking human bases!” the voice cried. 

“What?” Harrison immediately barked at his men, “Quick! Gather all the food and lock it down!” 

At the same time, bases across the globe received the warning and rushed to mount a defense against the locust catastrophe. 

The temperature had soared over 140 degrees Fahrenheit. Anyone stuck outside under the blazing sun would be baked to death. 

Luckily, most bases had plenty of water–powered humans. Even if the water they produced wasn’t enough for washing up, at least it was safe to drink. 

Everyone started frantically hoarding water, reinforcing the base and their homes, getting ready to hunker down and not step outside when the locusts arrived. 

On Chloe’s side, more than a thousand people quickly gathered up all the dried meat and stashed it together in the bunker. 

A massive mutant black dog lumbered into the base, hauling a snake carcass that weighed dozens of tons on its back. 

It had a huge snake head clamped in its jaws, with its venomous fangs still attached. 

Chloe always said mutant beasts were a goldmine. Their hides could be turned into armor, their meat was edible, and their bones could be forged into weapons. 

With all that snake meat, the whole base could eat for days. 

As soon as the dog lumbered in, everyone rushed over, some swinging machetes, others hefting axes, and a few waving around kitchen knives and sickles. 

All the weapons in their hands were crafted from mutant beast bones, making them insanely sharp. 

In no time, the snake meat, weighing dozens of tons, was hacked into smaller chunks, leaving behind nothing but a long, bare snake skeleton. 

“Come on, everyone! Let’s hustle. Before the locusts show up, dry everything and stash it away,” someone called out. 

The sun was brutal, and by the end of the day, all the snake meat had been turned into jerky and packed away in the bunker.

Chapter 316 

Once news of the locust invasion broke, everyone rushed to the supermarket, grabbing supplies like there was no tomorrow. 

They made sure to stock up on food and water, ready to hunker down indoors and not step outside for anything until the 

locusts moved on. 

On the third day, everyone finally got to take it easy for once, just crashing at home and catching up on sleep. 

Every household grabbed a mini fridge from the store, filled it with ice cream, ice, and loads of rye bread, enough to survive the locust apocalypse without breaking a sweat. 

The air was filled with a nerve–wracking buzz that made everyone’s skin crawl. People slammed their doors and windows shut, just waiting for the locust swarm to hit. 

Clayton was a legend when it came to buildings. His houses were so sturdy, not even a swarm of locusts could bust through. Ada was in her room, enjoying an ice cream bar, her eyes squinting with delight. 

“Mommy, you should try some. It’s really good!” Ada said, offering her ice cream. 

Her mother gently stroked her head, secretly licking her lips. “Mommy’s not a fan of this, sweetie. You go ahead and enjoy it.” 

She couldn’t bear spending two points on an ice cream bar herself. 

Her eyes were bright, filled with hope for the future. She actually looked forward to tomorrow, nothing like the numbness and fear she used to have. 

Even the most notorious troublemakers who used to rob and kill were behaving themselves in Blaze Haven. 

With everyone scrambling to rack up points every day, who had the time to mess around with crime? 

Life there might not seem like much compared to the old world, but for anyone stuck outside, this place was heaven on earth. 

Ada’s mother climbed onto the bed, pulled the curtain open just a sliver, and peeked outside. The sight made her jump in shock. 

What greeted her was a swarm of palm–sized locusts, packed so tightly there wasn’t a single gap left between heaven and 

earth. 

Their wings battered the windows nonstop, filling the air with a constant, pounding thump. 

“Mommy, I’m scared,” Ada whimpered. 

The woman pulled Ada into her arms. “Don’t be scared, sweetie. They can’t get in here.” 

When the locusts rolled through, not a single blade of grass survived. 

No joke. The last scraps of weeds in the fields vanished in seconds. With nothing left to eat, the locusts started teaming up and going after every house they could find. 

The woman held Ada close on the bed, both of them shaking, when suddenly a furious shout rang out from next door. 

“Hell! At this point, I’ll eat anything except people. Let’s see who gets eaten first!” the voice yelled. 

After that angry outburst, voices from other homes started echoing faintly, but Ada’s mother couldn’t catch what they were

“They… They’re actually catching locusts,” she exclaimed. 

Suddenly, it hit her. She remembered reading somewhere that locusts were packed with protein.
