Chapter 319 

Besides, Chloe had an entire base to keep alive. 

Now, she had no clue what was going on in the outside world. All the satellite transmissions she sent out got no response. 

After the locust swarm, she feared the world’s population had taken another hit. 

Finally, after ten days, she managed to get through to Bluehaven Base. The line was noisy, like they were still cleaning up after a battle. 

William’s voice came through. “Captain Yates, how are things on your end?” 

“We’re fine. No casualties here. How about you?” Chloe replied. 

William’s voice was filled with mixed emotions, like excitement and sorrow. 

He said, “We took heavy losses at first, but once we figured things out, it got better. Thanks to your warning, we’ve collected a ton of locusts at the base. 

“There’s enough to feed everyone for a long time. 

“But just got word. The outside world’s in chaos. A lot of mutant beasts have mutated again. Blaze Haven’s pretty small, don’t come out, okay?” 

They chatted for a while longer before ending the call. Right after, Chloe couldn’t hide the worry on her face. 

She wanted to help humanity, but there was nothing she could do, feeling pretty helpless. 

Meanwhile, a few people walked in from outside, their faces red with excitement.

“Chloe, those traps you set up really did the trick! The locusts we caught these past few days are enough to keep thousands of people at our base fed for years,” one laughed. 

For people, nothing’s more important than survival. 

“What’s wrong, Chloe?” another asked. 

Chloe pushed her sadness aside. “Nothing. How was the harvest today?” 

At the mention of the harvest, Frank and the others got even more excited. 

“A bumper day! We caught almost every locust that flew by. Too bad we didn’t make enough nets. I’m here to pick up more supplies from the materials depot so we can make some more,” Frank said. 

Chloe nodded. “Alright. We’ve pretty much wiped out the locusts here. I’m planning to venture farther out to collect more. Make sure you stay alert at the base.” 

Frank looked worried. “Where exactly are you headed? Want me to tag along?” 

Chloe waved him off. “Unnecessary. Just keep an eye on the base.” 

She’d spent a thousand space points already. She needed to earn them back, no matter what. 

Plus, she wasn’t about to let everyone in on all the secrets she kept in her spiritual space.

Soon, Chloe left Grovenwich behind. The devastated world outside was overrun by locusts, and there was sand everywhere. If she hadn’t been here before, she would’ve thought she’d landed in the middle of a desert. 

The outside world was empty, with nothing but raging winds, clouds of sand, and swarms of locusts. The soil had turned to sand, and green plants were now withered and yellow. 

Whenever the locusts passed by, everything disappeared in a flash. 

It was nothing like the vibrant greenery at Blaze Haven; it was like stepping into another world. 

As soon as Chloe, the only living soul in sight, appeared, the locusts in the sky zeroed in on her and launched a frenzied 

attack. 

The very next moment, every single locust vanished without a trace. 

Inside her spiritual space, a rain of giant locusts poured down over the barren mountain, each one the size of a washbasin, crashing down in waves. Above the mountain, a gigantic Tai Chi symbol spun endlessly in the sky. 

Any creature caught in the Tai Chi vortex was instantly torn apart. 

Chloe found herself in a world overrun by locusts in the heat of summer, clutching a handful of freshly ripened black wheat that gave off a rich aroma. 

The locusts launched relentless attacks, swarming her in waves, all desperate for the wheat. 

But the moment they got within ten feet of her, they instantly vanished. 

Chloe harvested locusts as she hurried toward the nearest city. 

Now that her spiritual space was upgraded to level five, she could live there as long as she wanted, no time limits, no stress, nothing to worry about at all. 

If things ever got dangerous, she could just slip into her spiritual space and disappear. Nobody would ever be able to track 

her down. 

Chloe moved like the wind, racing ahead as locusts from all directions, disturbed by the commotion, swarmed toward her, only to vanish the instant they got close. 

Another ten days passed, and the locusts across the land and sky had thinned out a lot. Some of the gutsier survivors started testing the waters by heading out to hunt them. 

It was already October, but the heat was still brutal. Instead of cooling down, the temperature just kept rising. 

After several waves of disasters, pretty much the only people left standing were powered humans. 

An armored truck with bulletproof glass roared down the highway. 

The massive vehicle was heavily modified, with a makeshift bulldozer blade up front and the whole body sealed welded metal plates.

The welds were cracked in spots, and the truck was battered with dents and scratches all over. The side metal bars were bent and flattened from all the hits they had taken. 

Inside, four men and three women sat, covered in dust and grime, looking like they’d just fought their way through hell. 

Suddenly, a wild wind whipped past them, and the locusts attacking the truck just disappeared.

The driver hit the brakes hard, and everyone inside jerked forward from the sudden stop. 

The short–haired woman looked annoyed. “Grim, can’t you drive straight? You nearly bashed my head against the dashboard!” 

Grim didn’t answer. Instead, he gestured toward the window. “Hey, check this out!” 

They hadn’t slept for three days, dead on their feet and barely able to keep their eyes open. 

But as they followed Grim’s gesture and looked outside, they froze. They became instantly wide awake, all exhaustion forgotten. 

“What? What’s happening?” someone exclaimed. 

They saw a figure flash by like a streak of lightning, the wind whipping wildly in their wake. 

Every locust caught in the wind’s path vanished instantly, as if they’d never existed. 

“Holy! What kind of power is that? Is it space–powered?” someone blurted out. 

Everyone instinctively turned to look at the slender figure sitting in the back. 

“Why are you all staring at me? Sure, I’m a space–powered human, but I can’t pull off anything like that,” a woman protested. 

She’d tried using her spiritual space to collect locusts outside once, but she almost got swarmed and eaten alive. 

“I’m telling you, that person’s got more than just space–powered abilities. There’s definitely something else going on,” she insisted. 

Just relying on spiritual space wouldn’t let you scoop up locusts that fast, especially when they’re all alive and going wild. 

Her companions turned away in disappointment, but their envy pulled their eyes right back to the window. 

“That person must have got both wind–powered and space–powered abilities, at least. Damn, that’s wild! Locusts just vanish the second they get within ten feet of them,” someone exclaimed. 

“And did you notice? That person’s so fast, all you catch is a blur. You can’t even tell if they’re male or female, tall or short, fat or thin, just a shadow zipping by,” another chimed in. 

Grim couldn’t help but marvel, genuinely awed by what he saw. “That’s a terrifying high–level ability. Let’s get out of here. No way we’re getting involved.” 

He was the strongest and most cautious in the group; no matter what they faced, survival always came first for him. 

Sitting on the edge, the woman with a slender figure chuckled. “A high–level powered human? Even better! Maybe I’ll have him wrapped around my finger.” 

Everyone’s eyes snapped to her. 

Itzel realized she’d put her foot in her mouth and quickly tried to play it off. “Well, I was just kidding.” 

Grim stared at her, all seriousness. “Honestly, Itzel, you’re gorgeous. Maybe you could win him over.”
