Chapter 322 

Sometimes, Chloe would wonder if she’d be better off not building a base and just surviving alone. 

But she never let that thought linger for long. 

Humans are social creatures. If she were the only one left in the world, what’s the point of surviving? 

She could be ruthless, could kill without blinking an eye, but she couldn’t even picture what the world would look like if humanity really disappeared. 

Now that the base was pretty much built, as long as nobody inside wandered out, there wouldn’t be any real danger. 

Chloe decided to take advantage of the moment and go for a stroll outside. 

Once she made up her mind, she acted fast. After a satisfying sleep, she emerged from her spiritual space. 

This was a three–star hotel, fully stocked with everything you could want, except the food, which had all rotted away 

The big bed and the down comforter were ridiculously comfortable. At Blaze Haven, all the bedding she’d prepared for everyone was just the basic stuff; she still couldn’t bring herself to use the good stuff. 

Chloe cupped her chin, lost in thought. 

‘Well, the base is pretty much self–sufficient now. Guess it’s time to make life a bit nicer for everyone,” Chloe said. 

With things at the base finally stable, she figured it was the perfect chance to scour every spot she could and stock up on all the daily supplies. 

Three years from now, a huge catastrophe will hit the world. 

It’d be like everything was collapsing, total chaos, the world torn apart and flipped upside down. 

By then, all the supplies would end up buried deep beneath the ground. 

With a heavy heart, she went from room to room, collecting everything: beds, bedding, cabinets, tables, chairs, stools, and even the toilets. She took it all. 

She’d need every bit of it, because three years from now, it’d all be gone. 

The scorching sun slowly climbed higher, its fierce rays baking the earth until it cracked and the roads split open, turning into a patchwork of potholes. 

The sunlight streamed into the three–star hotel, bringing a rare spark of life to what had once been a gloomy, ceric place. 

Chloe started gathering supplies from the top floor, and just as she stepped onto the second floor, she caught the sound of voices coming from outside. 

A bunch of people burst in, faces red and gasping for air, clearly in a panic, 

“Quick, shut the door!” someone yelled. 

Outside, a Pterosaur let out a thunderous screech that made everyone’s ears ache. 

They all heaved the heavy door shut together, then grabbed anything hefty to barricade it. Completely spent, they slid down to the floor, feeling like they’d been drained dry.

Chapter 322 

Itzel patted his chest, still trying to calm down. “Jeez, that scared the hell out of me.”

The skinny guy snuggled into Rebecca’s arms, putting on a pitiful act. “Babe, good thing I’ve got you to protect me. 

Rebecca’s expression softened as she gently patted his back. 

“Don’t worry, I’ll keep you safe…” she whispered. 

But before she could finish, her eyes landed on a breathtaking figure on the second floor, and she froze. completely stunned 

She jumped up in a flash. 

Everyone glanced at Rebecca in confusion, and just as they were about to say something, they followed her gaze and ve Chloe upstairs. 

“Wow, she’s gorgeous,” someone exclaimed. 

None of them realized she was the big shot. 

Chloe didn’t say a word. She headed straight for the exit, ready to leave. 

Itzel quickly called out to her, “Hey, girl, don’t go outside! There’s a terrifying mutant Pterosaur out there; it’s huge, like a mountain. Seriously, it’s scary as hell.” 

“Just hide out here for now. Once that thing leaves, you can head out,” she added. 

Chloe was drop–dead gorgeous, and at just 19, she had that kind of look that made you instinctively want to protect her. 

Grim was the only one who kept his guard up. 

“Who are you? What are you doing here?” Grim demanded, his tone icy and laced with warning. 

Itzel gave Grim a swift kick. 

Her eyes widened in surprise. 

“Grim, what’s your problem? You’re gonna freak out the poor girl,” Itzel snapped. 

Grim shot him a glare. “Are you out of your mind? This is downtown, crawling with zombies and mutant beasts. How does a pristine, pretty girl just pop up out of nowhere?” 

Itzel’s expression turned wary, and he didn’t say another word. 

The man with narrow eyes spoke up, his voice calm and deliberate. 

“Hey, girl, are you here all by yourself? Any companions with you? How did you manage to get here? 

Chloe ignored him and reached out to move the heavy stuff blocking the door. She’d just started to shift a stone table when 

a middle–aged woman stepped in and stopped her. 

She was the third woman in their group. 

She was pretty solid, with a round face, definitely a middle–aged lady, 

She planted herself right next to Chloe, putting herself between Chloe and the table, looking pretty annoyed.

“Hey, our captain’s talking to you. Are you deaf or something? she said sharply 

Itzel looked annoyed. 

“Priscilla, chill out. She’s just a young girl, don’t freak her out,” he said. 

Then he shot Chloe a wink. ‘Don’t worry, Chloe. Priscilla’s just a bit fierce, but she’s actually pretty nice once you get to know 

her.‘ 

Priscilla shot Itzel a fierce glare. “You little sneak, you gave me away in just a couple of sentences 

She was hoping to scare the girl a bit, but Itzel blew her cover right away. Forget it, I’m just not cut out to play the vill Priscilla thought. 

Chloe watched them, confused, as they bantered and laughed together. 

‘Can people really stay this lighthearted after the apocalypse?‘ she wondered. 

Priscilla saw Chloe looking a bit dazed at her and assumed her earlier words had startled the girl 

She let out a deep sigh. 

“Don’t worry, sweetie. Our captain’s a super strong ability user; he’s already level six, Priscilla reassured her 

Itzel pulled out a ration bar and a bottle of water from his storage bag. 

After thinking for a second, he put the ration bar back and swapped it for a pack of pasta and a sausage. 

“Here, have something to eat,” she said. 

Chloe could feel everyone’s eyes glued to the sausage and pasta, their mouths watering as they kept swallowing hard 

Grim didn’t say a word, just let out a deep sigh. 

“Man, these days the world’s really making it impossible for us to survive. If we humans don’t stick together, we might as well just wait for extinction,” Grim muttered. 

He pointed at the pasta, sausage, and water. “Seriously, you should take it. Consider it our one act of kindness in this messed- up world.” 

Itzel stuffed the food into Chloe’s arms. 

“Go on, take it. If you don’t, I might just take it back,” he said with a playful wink 

Pasta and sausage were considered luxury goods for them, stuff they’d only cat in desperate times, never wasting them on a normal day. 

Rebecca shot Chloe a curious glance. 

“Grim, you think she might be mute or something? Seriously, she’s drop–dead gorgeous. If I were a guy, no way I’d let her 

get away, Rebecca teased. 

Itzel gestured with his hands, grinning. “Relax, we’re not the bad guys. I’ll ask you a couple of questions, just nod if it’s yes shake your head if it’s no, alright?” 

Before Chloe could answer, he pointed upstairs. ‘Are you here all alone?”

Chloe was speechless and just nodded. 

Itzel was genuinely surprised. “Grim, look, she nodded! She really did! Guess she really can’t speak Too bad, she peerry” 

Priscilla’s expression turned gentle. “Good thing she found us. She’ll be alright now.” 

The man with narrow eyes gave everyone an exaggerated look. “Don’t tell me you’re actually planning to bring this girl along?” 

Itzel put his hands on his hips. “Why not?” 

The man with narrow eyes looked genuinely scared. “But we can barely keep ourselves alive.”
