Chapter 18Â
“Ms. Pierce, I’m being thoughtful from the bottom of my heart”Â
he insisted.Â
Words failed Adelaide.Â
Apart from Garrett, Adelaide had never been this close toÂ
another man. It made her uncomfortable. Her whole arm wasÂ
tense.Â
Even though it was just a short while, it felt like a century toÂ
her. She could feel the sweat on her back.Â
“It’s done.” Reginald let go of her hand. “Do you need me to walkÂ
you inside?”Â
“Don’t bother. Thank you for dropping me off here, Mr.Â
Thorton. Goodbye, and good night.” As she spoke, AdelaideÂ
hurried through the gate, closed it behind her, and walkedÂ
away without looking back. She didn’t care if Reginald left orÂ
not.Â
Only after she got inside her place did she collapse onto the sofa,Â
exhausted.Â
From the moment she got into Reginald’s car until now, she hadÂ
almost forgotten what pain felt like.Â
Now, even if she tried to feel that pain, she couldn’t.Â
She stopped thinking about the drama in the Pierce’s place, took out her phone, and saw hundreds of calls and messages, mostly from Garrett and Spencer.Â
She frowned, looking annoyed.Â
But when she saw Teresa’s message asking her to call back, she didn’t hesitate to dial..Â
Teresa answered the call right away. “Damn, I thought you were so heartbroken that you would jump into the river! Do you know if you don’t call me back, I’ll really rush to the Silverpine River?”Â
The Silverpine River cut through the city center.Â
It was a place where people ended their lives when they wereÂ
feeling really down.Â
Adelaide laughed, “What are you talking about? I’m not gonnaÂ
jump into the river over them.”Â
Teresa knew Adelaide wouldn’t do that, but the thought stillÂ
scared her. She had even thought that if Adelaide really killedÂ
herself, she would spend the rest of her life taking down GarrettÂ
and the Pierce family and then jump into the river herself.Â
“So where are you? Why aren’t you answering their calls, orÂ
Chapter 18Â
even mine?”Â
Adelaide didn’t feel the need to hide anything from Teresa.Â
She told Teresa straight out that she had joined Reginald’sÂ
design team. She would start at Orvenix Group tomorrow andÂ
had just been with him.Â
Teresa was stunned for a second, her voice shaking. “Are youÂ
talking about the Reginald from three years ago?”Â
“Is there another Reginald in Evercrest?” Adelaide was amused.Â
“Is Reginald still into you?” Teresa asked again.Â
Thinking back to what Reginald had said at Rosecliff Manor,Â
Adelaide said softly, “Probably. But don’t get me wrong, IÂ
didn’t…”Â
Teresa said, “Got you wrong? Why would I? Garrett can have anÂ
affair, so why can’t you?”Â
Adelaide was kind of speechless, thinking, “Alright, Teresa is asÂ
sharp–tongued as Reginald.”Â
“You know I don’t mean that,” said Adelaide.Â
Teresa nodded. “I know.”Â
“Back to the point. You’re getting a divorce from Garrett, andÂ
Chapter 18Â
you work in Reginald’s team. He can have a mistress. Why can’t you fall in love with your boss?” Teresa added.Â
This… sounded off.Â
Teresa said, “Didn’t we agree before? Stop burdening yourself with morality. See how much trouble all those moral rules have caused you. Whether you’re going to Reginald because he is into you or because of that old bet, this is the best move you made.Â
“Reginald is a powerhouse. How prestigious his team is. Use him as your backup. Neither the Pierce family nor Garrett wouldÂ
dare to mess with him.”Â
This was getting wild.Â
