Chapter 27Â
Adelaide smiled more brightly. “You schemed so hard to sleepÂ
with Garrett but still couldn’t make him choose you. You triedÂ
your best to tell Dad what you wanted but still couldn’t get meÂ
kicked out of the Pierce family. You want me dead, but I’m stillÂ
here. It must be killing you. All that effort these past few days.Â
was all for nothing. It must hurt.”Â
“AAAAHHHH! ADELAIDE, SHUT UP!!” Amanda lost it andÂ
flipped the entire table.Â
Dishes and cutlery clattered to the floor, but not a single staffÂ
member showed up.Â
“ADELAIDE! I’M GOING TO RIP YOUR MOUTH OFF!” AmandaÂ
shrieked, lunging at Adelaide like a madwoman.Â
But Adelaide had already stood when Amanda flipped the table.Â
She dodged easily again.Â
At this point, Amanda’s rage had tunneled her vision. Her onlyÂ
focus was Adelaide’s face. She couldn’t think. So when AdelaideÂ
shifted again, she couldn’t react in time and tripped, falling face-Â
first onto the floor.Â
Looking down at her, Adelaide calmly pulled out her phone andÂ
dialed a number. “Hello, is that Evercrest Mental Health Center?Â
A patient with a mental illness is attacking me.”Â
Amanda froze for several seconds, unsure if she was hallucinating.Â
Who was Adelaide calling?Â
Evercrest Mental Health Center?Â
Only after Adelaide hung up did Amanda fully process what had happened. Her face contorted even more grotesquely. “ADELAIDE! I’M GOING TO KILL YOU!!!”Â
She lunged again, only for Adelaide to dodge effortlessly onceÂ
more.Â
Just as Amanda picked up a shard of broken plate from theÂ
floor and was about to strike again, a police officer in uniformÂ
shouted, “Hey! What do you think you’re doing?!”Â
At the sight of the police officer, Amanda was startled andÂ
quickly dropped the shard from her hand.Â
Adelaide was surprised that the police would show up, and sheÂ
guessed the staff must have called them.Â
Two police officers walked over and scanned the scene. One of them, a middle–aged officer, asked sternly, “Who made thisÂ
mess?”Â
She did,” Adelaide replied, pointing at Amanda.Â
“It wasn’t me! I didn’t do it!” Amanda frantically shook her headÂ
and glared at Adelaide.Â
Adelaide sneered coldly, “Do you think the overhead camerasÂ
are just for decoration?”Â
Amanda was stunned.Â
“You damaged private property. And just now, I saw youÂ
attempting to assault this lady,” the middle–aged officer said asÂ
he took out the handcuffs. “You’ll have to come with us to theÂ
station.”Â
“I’m innocent! I’m mentally ill! I can’t handle provocation! SheÂ
deliberately triggered me, and that’s why I lost control andÂ
smashed things!” Amanda screamed, her voice trembling withÂ
fear.Â
Adelaide chuckled.Â
What a character. Always ready to pull the “I’m mentally ill”Â
card at any moment,Â
“We’ll need you to come with us as well, miss,” the officerÂ
turned to Adelaide.Â
“No problem.”Â
Adelaide wasn’t sure if it was just her imagination, but thisÂ
officer seemed unusually polite toward her.Â
At the station, Amanda cried so hard her makeup wasÂ
completely ruined. She requested a phone call, and the officersÂ
agreed.Â
Meanwhile, in another interrogation room.Â
The middle–aged officer handed Adelaide a latte. “Ms. Pierce,Â
this is just a formality.”Â
If she only had suspicions at the restaurant, she was nowÂ
certain. After thanking him, she asked, “Officer Sweeney, may IÂ
ask why?”Â
“I’m just following orders,” he replied.Â
Adelaide gave a wry smile. “Orders from whom?”Â
Lyndon Sweeney didn’t answer. He simply pulled out his phoneÂ
and typed in some letters: Thorton.Â
When she saw it, her eyes widened in shock.Â
Reginald Thorton?!Â
