“I had ulterior motives for you. Do you think he wouldn’t dareÂ
to do anything to you like this? Adelaide, if there’s a next time, ifÂ
he takes you away before I arrive. I may not be able to rescueÂ
you in time, trouble that could be avoided, why do you have toÂ
go near him?”Â
Adelaide was caught off guard when he suddenly blurted outÂ
his attitude like that.Â
“Adelaide, speak,” Reginald snapped.Â
“That was Teresa’s flower shop,” she explained.Â
The man chuckled, “Three women trying to take down a fewÂ
bodyguards, Adelaide, should I say you trust your besties tooÂ
much or you’re just too confident in yourself.”Â
Adelaide turned her face away to look out the carÂ
window again, saying, “I can’t argue with that, he’s alwaysÂ
right.”Â
The car went straight back to Rosecliff Manor.Â
Reginald was walking very fast, and Adelaide saw him already in the hallway as soon as she got off the car. Draven was standing at the door, smiling at her, “Ms. Pierce, come on in,Â
Chapter74Â
dinner is ready“”Â
Faced with the invitation from her elders, Adelaide was a bitÂ
embarrassed. She politely said, “Draven, I have to go back andÂ
pack my suitcase.”Â
“Eating won’t take long, and I even asked the kitchen to makeÂ
Ms. Pierce’s portion.” Draven waved kindly, “Come on, Ms.Â
Pierce.”Â
Adelaide really couldn’t refuse, so she had to grit her teeth andÂ
go in.Â
Reginald didn’t eat much before he got a phone call and wentÂ
upstairs. Adelaide thought he would come back down to eat,Â
but he never did, even after she finished eating.Â
Was he angry?Â
When Draven was clearing the tableware, he casually said, “Mr.Â
Thorton is like that, if he gets interrupted during a meal, heÂ
won’t be interested in eating anymore.”Â
Adelaide was surprised, “Isn’t this bad for your stomach?”Â
“Oh, you bet! But Mr. Thorton is as strong as an ox, he gets aÂ
check–up every year.”Â
Is your body made of Iron?Â
Chapter 74Â
He had a high fever yesterday.Â
After saying goodbye, Adelaide didn’t want to go upstairs to tellÂ
Reginald, so she asked Draven to help pass on the message, andÂ
then she took a shortcut back to the Sterling Estates with herÂ
suitcase.Â
On the second floor of the villa, Reginald leaned against theÂ
French window, watching Adelaide’s slow–moving figure walkÂ
away.Â
No conscience…Â
Back at the apartment, Adelaide was exhausted by 11 o’clock.Â
She rolled over and opened WhatsApp, only to realize sheÂ
hadn’t accepted Abigail’s friend request yet.Â
She agreed in just a few seconds, then Abigail unexpectedlyÂ
received a voice call.Â
She scared her.Â
“Adelaide! How come you only accepted my friend request now!Â
I went to the hotel to find you, the front desk said you hadÂ
already checked out, why didn’t you even notify me!” AbigailÂ
sounded so aggrieved, as if she wouldn’t give up until AdelaideÂ
gave her a proper explanation.Â
Adelaide chuckled, “Mr. Thorton’s new job was too far from theÂ
hotel, so we moved to a different place.”Â
Chapter74Â
“Hmph, didn’t even say a word before going back to Evercrest.Â
When my dad told me, you guys had already flown back toÂ
Evercrest,” Abigail complained a bit and then suddenlyÂ
brightened up, “Oh well, forget it, forget it. I actually have goodÂ
news to tell you.”Â
Listening to this, Adelaide could roughly guess what was goingÂ
- on.Â
“What’s the good news?”Â
Abigail grinned, “I did as you suggested, and guess what? My dad didn’t actually mean to marry me off right away.”Â
Adelaide said, “Congratulations.”Â
“You were right to find you.”Â
