Chapter 6
It turned out that this Isaiah was just a pretty boy who mingled in the circles of international students, living off the relationships
he formed with wealthy women.
He would often pretend to have an impressive background to gain others’ trust. Thus, when Debra arrived in Marbleton and settled into a luxurious villa, it naturally caught his attention.
Once he learned that she was searching for a fiancé with the same name as his, he saw it as a golden opportunity. He thought that she was naive and easy to deceive. Even if everything came crashing down one day, he could claim that he hadn’t lied. After all,
Isaiah Joubert was his real name.
So, he deliberately set up a “chance encounter” and approached Debra.
Not daring to investigate Isaiah’s real identity, Debra had simply gone along with it since she knew that she was living a lie and
had no grounds to ask any questions.
For over half a year, they both played their parts, thinking they had gotten what they wanted out of the situation. But in the end, their lies were exposed, and they were turned into laughingstocks.
Debra was seething with anger. “No matter what, we’ve been together for all these months. You should take responsibility! You
can’t just watch me get ruined!”
Isaiah sneered. “Responsibility? Don’t kid me! No wonder you always refused to buy me anything when I asked. On the contrary,
you even expected me to spend money on you!”
He rolled his eyes and continued with contempt, “I really thought you were from the Larson family, but you’re so stingy you
wouldn’t even treat me to a decent meal!”
Debra’s face flushed red as she refuted, “Don’t push your luck! What’s wrong with me spending your money? You were the one
who said you would do anything for me!”
“Oh, please.” Isaiah started counting off on his fingers. “The parties, bags, cosmetics, shoes-you made me pay for all of them!
It’s over tens of thousands of dollars, and you’ll pay it all back!”
His gaze was icy, as if he couldn’t wait to get every cent back from her.
The tension between them escalated, each accusing the other of hypocrisy and exploitation. Their argument quickly turned into a
physical scuffle, and the scene became more ridiculous by the moment.
Watching the pair bicker, Dad coldly interrupted them, “Enough. This farce ends here. The police will handle the rest.”
In the following weeks, Debra faced full legal accountability.
She was not only charged with identity theft and fraud but also with forgery, illegal possession of property, and several other
crimes, leading to a criminal conviction.

She tried to reach out to past acquaintances for help but was rejected at every turn. Even those she once considered close friends avoided her out of fear of getting implicated.
Isaiah was also arrested by the police for his violence against me. After an investigation and a trial, he was fined and ordered to
pay compensation.
Additionally, he was barred from continuing his studies at a prestigious college. Now that he had a criminal record, his career prospects were severely impacted.
When he was eventually released after serving a short prison sentence, he appeared haggard and defeated, no longer carrying the
arrogance he once had.
One day, shortly after his release, Isaiah spotted an equally disheveled Debra on the street.
The moment their eyes met, both were consumed by anger.
Isaiah stormed up to her and yelled in resentment, “This is all your fault! Not only did I lose money, but I ended up in jail because of you! Debra, you’d better pay me back for the six months I wasted on
you!”
