Chapter 130 The Absence of Ethan 

After giving a soft hum, it suddenly dawned on Emily that she’d forgotten about Ethan. With all her worries focused on a sick Sophia, his existence had slipped her mind. 

Surely, even if he was up to his neck in work, he ought to have returned to their place at Joy Gardens. 

In a situation as dire as their daughter’s illness, when Ethan couldn’t reach Emily, it was only natural to expect that he, as a father, would’ve rushed Sophia to the hospital straight away. 

Previously, there’d been no time to dwell on these thoughts. But the moment she laid eyes on Lucas, all these nagging questions came flooding back. 

Without hesitation, Emily blurted out, “Has Ethan still not wrapped up his work?” 

Lucas was caught off guard. “Huh?” 

Emily knitted her brows slightly before saying, “Sophie’s unwell. He said he had an evening meeting. Is it still going on?” 

It was past ten already, and he rarely worked this late even on overtime days. 

Lucas didn’t sugarcoat it and replied straightforward “Mr5:29 Wilson wasn’t in a meeting. He left the office at three this

Emily froze. “What?” 

Lucas immediately realized he might have put his foot in it. “I…” he stammered, quickly avoiding her gaze. 

At that moment, Emily began to piece things together. Instead of throwing a fit, she simply said coolly, “I see. You can get back to your work.” 

Lucas was utterly confused.

But Emily didn’t hang around. She made her way to the diner counter and ordered a light bowl of vegetable broth, asking to have it to–go. 

Once she had the food in hand, she walked out without another 

word for Lucas. 

Lucas stood there, dumbfounded. This wasn’t the Emily he 

knew. 

Why hadn’t she pressed on to find out where Ethan was? 

He couldn’t believe she was just letting the matter drop like that. So, he dashed out after her. But by the time he made it outside, Emily was already a distant figure under her umbrella in the misty rain.

Sophia quickly shut off the phone screen and sat up on the hospital bed. “Mommy,” she said. 

Emily’s pajamas were dripping wet, but she’d cradled the soup carefully, as if it were the most precious thing in the world, fearing it might get cold or spill.

There were fresh clothes in the car, so Emily headed out. 

Once inside the car, weariness washed over her like a wave, and she slumped back in her seat, too exhausted to move. 

Leaning back against the chair, Emily closed her eyes briefly. Lucas‘ words had given her something to ponder, and the absence of Ethan when Sophia was taken to the hospital made one thing quite clear: Ethan was probably not in Los Angeles. 

So, where could he be? 

It was a no–brainer. Wherever Nancy went, Ethan would follow. 

Still, it was just a hunch. To confirm, Emily picked up her phone and searched Nancie’s video account. 

Sure enough, there was a new post.

Putting the phone down, Emily covered her face.
