Hearing Emily’s words, Ethan froze for a moment, suddenly remembering the task he’d given Lucas.

The freezing of the bank card was indeed his doing.

He didn’t offer an explanation. After a brief silence, he shot the question at Emily. “What’s on your shopping list?”

Emily parted her lips, itching to ask about the frozen card. However, Ethan’s nonchalant attitude told her he was well–in–the–know.

So, she swallowed the words back.

Out of the blue, Ethan declared, “I’ll transfer some money to you.”

Emily was seething inside, but she was just too worn out to pick a fight. “Nah, it’s okay,” she said, then promptly hung up.

Standing close by, Melissa had caught every word of the conversation. Even a dummy could’ve figured out what was going on.

“That jerk! After treating you like dirt, you’re still not divorcing him?” she blurted out, clearly ticked off.
