Chapter 148 Don’t BotherÂ
Oliver cast a cold glance at Andrew and said, “Don’t bother. Before I leave, there’s something I’d like to remind you of. My student just saved Mrs. Robinson’s life. You may call me an old bastard if you like, but in the medical field, as long as someone is a medical student, I’m qualified to speak my mind.”Â
With that, Oliver angrily picked up his briefcase and left the private room.Â
After Oliver was gone, Andrew complained angrily to Ethan, “Does that old man even know who’s backing him? Without your funding, his labs wouldn’t exist. How dare he talk to Nancy like that, and how dare he talk to me like that?”Â
Andrew was furious, so much so that he almost wanted to chase after Oliver and argue it out with him.Â
Nancy sat to the side, quietly sobbing.Â
The reason Ethan didn’t defend Nancy was that Oliver was right.Â
Still, seeing Nancy cry made him feel bad for her. Under the table, he reached out and placed his hand gently over the back of hers.Â
At the same time, Ethan looked up at Andrew and sai “Oliver has the right to be arrogant. So many outstanding doctors.Â

Andrew scoffed dismissively, “So what? If we decide to shut him down, it’s done.”Â
Ethan was much calmer. “Do you really think we’re the only ones funding Oliver?”Â
Andrew froze. From Ethan’s words, it was clear that Oliver was backed by more than just Ethan.Â
Ethan didn’t say who else was involved, but he added, “Oliver is off–limits.”Â
Andrew naturally understood what Ethan meant and realized that Oliver’s position was more complicated than he had assumed.Â
So he stopped complaining.Â
Still, seeing Nancy in tears, Andrew couldn’t help saying, “Nancy, if it really comes down to it, medicine isn’t the only path you have to take.”Â
Nancy looked up with reddened eyes. “No. I’ve put so much effort into getting where I am today. I don’t want to give up justÂ
like that.”Â
Ethan turned to her, pressed his lips together lightly, and said, “Now that you know where you’re falling short, work on fixingÂ
it.”Â

voice, “Focus on your research and your dissertation. If you do the work well, Oliver won’t make things difficult for you.”Â
Nancy felt much better. She smiled at Ethan and said, “Thank you.”Â
Ethan returned her smile and said, “I’ve been reading medical literature lately too. If I come across a good research direction, I’ll let you know.”Â
Andrew finally relaxed. Watching the unspoken familiarity between Ethan and Nancy, he felt reassured.Â
When Ethan had brought up Emily out of the blue yesterday, Andrew had thought Ethan might still have feelings for her.Â
Now it seemed he had overthought it.Â
With a woman as refined and gentle as Nancy by his side, who would want someone like Emily–someone who had nothing toÂ
offer?Â
In the restaurant’s main dining area, after Aaron learned that Oliver had gone to meet Ethan and the others, he signaled the server to bring the menu.Â
Oliver might have had other engagements, but Aaron and Emily still needed to eat.Â

As he approached and saw Emily and Aaron already seated with their dishes served, he couldn’t help teasing, “What’s this? I’m not even here yet, and you’ve already started?”Â
Hearing Oliver’s voice, both Emily and Aaron instinctively stood up.Â
“Professor Jones.” They greeted.Â
Oliver didn’t mind at all. He placed his briefcase on an empty chair beside him and then sat down next to Aaron.Â
He casually took off his jacket and draped it over the chair back. Then, he removed his watch and set it on the table, showing no sign of rushing off.Â
It was clear that Oliver hadn’t actually dined with the others earlier. Otherwise, he would not be here now.Â
Aaron handed him the menu and said, “What would you like toÂ
order?”Â
Just as Oliver was about to look at the menu, Emily spoke softly, “Should we move to a private room instead?”Â
Although this was a high–end restaurant, the main dining area had constant foot traffic.Â
Given Oliver’s status, Emily couldn’t help thinking it mightÂ

Aaron nodded in agreement. “Yeah. A private room might be better.”Â
Oliver closed the menu and placed it back on the table, his tone steady and firm. “No need. We’ll stay here.” He paused and then added, “We have nothing to hide. There’s no need to avoid anyone.”Â
At that, Emily and Aaron exchanged a glance. Both understood his meaning and didn’t insist further.Â
