Chapter 170 Let’s Keep It From Matthew 

The thing he had struggled to say turned out to matter so little to her. 

Since Sophia had no objections, Ethan didn’t say anything 

more. 

After leaving her room, he sent Emily a message: [I’ve talked to Sophie. I’ll have my lawyer handle the divorce agreement.] 

Only a few minutes later, Emily replied: [Okay.] 

Staring at that single, emotionless word, Ethan sank into thought. 

Emily had loved him deeply, and Sophia just as much. Was she really willing to give up this marriage so completely? 

The next day was Monday. 

After getting off work that evening, Emily ran into Aaron 

outside the hospital. At the same time, she spotted Ethan’s ear parked nearby.

When Aaron saw her, he walked over and asked, “Want to grab dinner together?” 

Emily looked at him and smiled lightly, “Aaron, I’m meeting Ethan to talk about the divorce. Maybe next time. I’ll treat you.” 

Aaron was clearly taken aback, but a trace of a smile appeared in his eyes. He said gently, “Okay.” 

After saying goodbye to Aaron, Emily walked over to Ethan’s 

car. 

As soon as she got in, she got straight to the point. “Let’s go to Brocade Estates to talk. It’s quiet there.” 

Hearing her bring up the divorce the moment she got in, Ethan frowned. His gaze settled on her, sharp and probing. 

Under his scrutiny, Emily felt a little uncomfortable and asked, confused, “What’s wrong?” 

Ethan said, “Grandpa asked us to come back for dinner. I came to pick you up. He said it’s to make up for your birthday.” 

Emily froze for a moment, then quickly asked, “How long will it take to finalize the divorce agreement?” 

“I’ve already asked someone to handle it,” Ethan replied. 2/7

Then he fixed his eyes on hers and asked, “Are you in a hurry?” 

Emily neither lied nor avoided his gaze; she looked straight back at him and answered simply, “Yes.” 

Ethan paused. As he lowered his eyes, he noticed the bracelet on her wrist. 

Alexander had bid aggressively to win it at the auction, and now it was wrapped around her wrist. 

He thought that must be why she wanted a divorce. It had to be because of Alexander. 

But it didn’t really matter. After all, he had never loved her. 

Before Ethan could say anything else, Matthew’s call came in. 

He answered, and Matthew urged from the other end, “Ethan, have you picked up Emily?” 

“Yes,” Ethan replied. 

“Then hurry back. We’re waiting for you,” Matthew said. 

Ethan hung up the phone. 

After putting it away, he turned to Emily again. “Once the

divorce agreement is ready, I’ll contact you to come sign it.” 

Emily knew divorce was not something that could be rushed, especially with a family like Ethan’s, and with a child involved. There were too many things to deal with. So she nodded. “Okay.” 

Seeing that she agreed, Ethan added, “Then let’s go back for dinner first.” 

With that, he started the car. 

On the way back to Wilson Manor, neither of them spoke. 

Emily thought of Matthew and felt conflicted. 

Anyone else would agree to the divorce, but Matthew was different. He genuinely wanted her and Ethan to stay together for the long haul. 

Back then, it had been Matthew who worked hard to bring them together. 

Emily had been grateful to him and had treated him well. 

After the marriage, Matthew had continued to treat her kindly. 

To be honest, he truly regarded her as family.

While waiting at a red light, Emily turned to look at Ethan. 

He was staring straight ahead. His jaw was tense, his nose sharp and well–defined, his lips thin. His eyes were lightly closed, lashes thick. 

He was undeniably handsome, with a face that had captivated countless people. 

Back then, Emily had given everything for that face and poured her whole heart into him. 

But now, she felt nothing. 

Looking at him, Emily asked, “What are you planning to tell your grandfather?” 

Ethan glanced over and answered honestly, “I don’t know. But he won’t agree to the divorce.” 

At some point, Emily had started noticing how cold her own gaze toward him had become. 

After thinking for a moment, she said, “Then let’s keep it from him for now. Once the divorce papers are finalized, you can explain it to him slowly.”

Ethan paused, then finally responded, “Okay.” 

When they arrived at Wilson Manor, the staff were already waiting at the door. 

After getting out of the car, Ethan didn’t open the door for Emily. Instead, he walked straight to the trunk. 

By the time Emily stepped out, Ethan was closing the trunk, a large box in his hands. It looked like a cake. 

Once inside the living room, Emily noticed that Julian, Emma, and Tyrone were all there. Lydia, however, was nowhere to be 

seen. 

Given Emma’s personality, she usually would have thrown a few sarcastic remarks Emily’s way. Tonight, though, she was unusually quiet. Not only did she say nothing, she even ate in silence. 

Emily found it strange but didn’t ask about it. 

After dinner began, Matthew instructed, “Ethan, put some food on Emily’s plate.” 

Ethan acknowledged him. “Got it, Grandpa.” 

He served Emily some lasagna and added a piece of steak.
