The familiar scent of tobacco filled her nostrils. She struggled and muttered through gritted teeth, “Let go.” 

Alexander leaned in, his breath fanning Emily’s face. 

She turned her head away, and his breath fell instead against her neck. 

He didn’t say a word. When he reached for her arm, the moment his hand came close, she let out a muffled 

groan.

He flipped the light on and grabbed her arm to examine it, asking anxiously, “What happened?” 

Emily twisted her arm back forcefully and replied coldly, “I’m fine.” 

Afraid of hurting her and seeing her pull away, Alexander loosened his grip. 

Before he could ask anything else, Emily’s phone rang.
