Sophia’s stomach had started hurting again earlier. Neither Ethan nor Nancy had been able to help, no matter how hard they tried rubbing her stomach.

After hearing Ethan’s words, Emily felt disappointed once more, though the feeling lasted only briefly.

Ethan froze at her words. After a long pause, he said, “Lucas just called. He said the divorce agreement is mostly finished. I’ll urge him again tomorrow. Let’s meet tomorrow night at Brocade Estates.” 

Emily finally let out a breath. “All right. Tomorrow night.”

The following evening, after getting off work, Emily went straight to Brocade Estates. 

Jane was surprised to see her, but clearly pleased. 

“Ma’am, would you like me to prepare dinner for you?” 

“No,” Emily replied. “I’m not hungry.” 

Jane acknowledged her and went back to her work. 

Emily sat on the sofa and waited for Ethan to return. She didn’t even take out her phone.

Still unwilling to give up, Emily asked, “It can’t be done tonight?”

After hanging up, she leaned back against the sofa, exhausted. 

It seemed that once again, there would be no signing of the divorce agreement tonight. 

Anyone capable of snatching a project from Ethan clearly wasn’t to be underestimated. 

The next day, before Emily even got off work, Ethan called.
