Ethan started rambling on with a long explanation full of adult logic, but Molly didn’t understand a word of it. 

She stood her ground, her small face fierce and determined as she fired back, “That’s not true at all! Mommy and Daddy said Aunt Emily is family forever. As long as she wants to come back, Carter Manor will always be her home. So this is her 

home–not your place!” 

Ethan’s expression darkened at her words. He looked at Molly with a mix of emotions in his eyes, unsure how to respond. 

She was defending Emily so fiercely simply because she loved 

her. 

As an adult, he had no real grounds to argue with a child. 

Seeing him fall silent, Molly pressed on boldly. “You’re not allowed to take Aunt Emily away!”

Ethan shook his head slowly, as if searching for an answer himself. “Maybe there still is one.”
