Desperate to break free, Emily pushed back hard against his restraint.

Emily gave Molly a kind smile. “But your mom said we’re supposed to have dinner at home,” she reminded.

Spotting Nancy, Sophia bounded over like an excited puppy. “Nancy, you’re here!” she hollered, as if to make sure Emily didn’t miss the arrival.

Nancy flashed a smile. “Ethan, it’s okay. I can handle her,” she said. 

But Ethan wasn’t having it. He gently but firmly took Sophia from Nancy’s arms. 

With Nancy around, it seemed Sophia didn’t need Emily anymore. And Ethan didn’t even spare Emily a glance.
