Chapter 236 SupportÂ
Emily fell silent instead of replying.Â
From the banquet hall, a lively din of clinking glasses, jovial laughter, and warm wishes wafted out.Â
It was Harvey’s birthday bash, after all. After a brief moment of composure, Emily turned to Alexander. “Let’s head back. Mr. Pitts’ll come looking if he notices we’re gone.”Â
Leaving the shindig prematurely was a major faux–pas, and they’d been MIA long enough.Â
Alexander got the memo and rose to accompany Emily back to the hall.Â
At the entrance, a scene unfolded a small crowd surrounded Ethan, toasting him heartily.Â
Nancy stood beside him, glass in hand.Â
One guest gushed, “Mr. Wilson, you’re one lucky guy! Having such a stunner by your side. You two are like a match made in heaven.”Â
Ethan grinned, clinked glasses all around, stole a glance at Nancy, and then addressed the group, “Appreciate the kind words.”Â
Emily took in the sight with a stoic expression and sauntered qyesÂ
to their table, taking a seat. Alexander trailed behind and 45 plopped down as well.Â

Before Emily could wrap her head around his gesture, Michael had downed his drink.Â
With a sigh, she drained her glass of red.Â
Michael clapped enthusiastically. “That’s so like an Alexander’s girl! You’re not only a looker but can hold your liquor too. If Alexander ever steps out of line, just holler at Kyrian and me. We’ve got your back.”Â
Grateful for his support, Emily flashed a smile and murmured, “Got it, thanks.”Â
Michael’s booming voice didn’t go unnoticed by Ethan and Nancy. Their gazes drifted over.Â
Nancy caught Alexander glaring daggers at Ethan.Â
She bit her lip, thinking he was green–eyed with jealousy because she was with Ethan.Â
Michael, sensing their looks, whipped out a business card and thrust it at Emily. “Take this. If anyone gives you grief, just call. I’ll sort it out, no need to bother Alexander.”Â
After pocketing the card, Emily simply said, “Thanks.”Â
Across the way, Ethan narrowed his eyes at Emily. Seeing her neither rebuff nor clarify, he furrowed his brow.Â
Naricy shot Michael a peeved look, muttering under her breathÂ

about his lack of tact.Â
In her mind, Alexander’s affections were clearly for her, not Emily.Â
Around the table, everyone was lost in their own thoughts.Â
Shawn and Kyrian, however, seemed like outsiders, sitting quietly as if the drama around them didn’t concern them.Â

Andrew couldn’t help but scoff at Michael’s over–the–top protection of Emily. Without holding back, he sneered, “Michael, are you blind? You’re calling every Tom, Dick, and Harry ‘Alexander’s girl‘ now?”Â
Michael remained calm. Instead of getting riled up, he first glanced meaningfully at Nancy across the table, then turned to Andrew and retorted, “I’d say someone else here is the one seeing things wrong. Maybe you should ask yourself that question.”Â
Losing his cool, Andrew slapped the table, shot up, and growled, “Michael!”Â
Michael didn’t even bother to stand. He just gave Andrew a cold look and asked nonchalantly, “What’s your move?”Â
The tension was thick enough to cut with a knife, and it seemed like a fight could break out any second.Â
Alexander instinctively shielded Emily with his arm while throwing a cold glare at Ethan.Â

At his words, Andrew plopped back down, clearly frustrated.Â
This was the second time he’d been shut down by Michael tonight, and to make matters worse, they were on the Pitts family’s turf. He couldn’t just lose his temper.Â
Michael knew Andrew was fuming and couldn’t resist adding fuel to the fire. “Coward,” he taunted.Â
He was well aware that Andrew wouldn’t dare to start a fightÂ
here.Â
Seeing Andrew seethe brought him a strange sense of satisfaction.Â
Just then, Kyrian nudged Michael under the table and whispered, “Picking fights is illegal. Don’t play into their hands.”Â
Michael took the hint and fell silent.Â
Regardless of how Ethan and his group felt, Michael turned to Emily and said, “You and Alexander stay put. I’ll go grab you a slice of cheesecake.”Â
Emily gave him a grateful smile. Thanks,” she said simply.Â
Nancy was seething at Michael’s show of attention. She stamped her foot under the table in annoyance.Â
How could Michael be so clueless about who Alexander really liked?Â
