Chapter 24 Ask Nancy to Talk to Sophia 

Emily parked her car downstairs at the Wilson Group, bracing herself for a long wait. As time wore on, the building gradually emptied as employees left for home after work, yet there was still no sign of Ethan. 

Overwhelmed by impatience, she reached for her phone to call Ethan. 

Unlocking it, she stumbled upon the message he’d sent that morning, a reminder to take Sophia to school. 

With a hectic schedule earlier, she’d completely forgotten about it. 

The realization sent a pang of worry through her. 

Sophia, a perfectionist always striving for the best, would surely have been in tears and heartbroken for being late to school. 

The thought tightened Emily’s chest.

Just then, the doors of the Wilson Group swung open, and out came Ethan, accompanied by his assistant, Lucas. 

Ethan, looking dashing in his tailored suit, stood at an imposing frame, à magnetic presence that drew everyone’s eyes. 

A sleek black Rolls–Royce was parked at the curb. Instead of getting into the back, Ethan walked over to the driver’s side, opened the door, and extended his hand to the person inside. 

At first, Emily paid little attention to the car or its occupant. 

However, she soon recognized Nancy. 

As Nancy stepped out, Ethan shielded her protectively. In a flowing white dress, she looked like an angel, her simple yet elegant appearance a perfect match for Ethan.

The setting sun warmed the pair, their shadows blending on the ground. 

Nancy casually looped her arm through Ethan’s, and he looked down at her, a gentle smile on his face. 

Seeing this, Lucas discreetly stepped back. 

Ethan was chatting with Nancy, but the distance made it impossible for Emily to catch their words. 

She sat in the car, rooted to the spot. 

However, the thought of her parents‘ longing to see their granddaughter spurred her into action. 

As she slowly approached Ethan, his words reached her ears. “If you’re feeling burned out, maybe take a break from the concerts. Your studies should come first. You’ve always dreamed of being a doctor, right?” 

Nancy tilted her head up at him, a playful glint in her eyes. “I love the idea of being a doctor, but I’m also crazy about the piano. I don’t want to give either up.”

After Ethan softly said, “Okay,” he leaned in to get in the car and noticed Emily standing nearby. 

Dressed casually in jeans, sneakers, and a long–sleeved top, with a small cross–body bag slung over her shoulder and her long hair loose, she was expressionless in the fading sunlight, showing neither joy nor sorrow. 

Ethan looked taken aback at the sight of her, and Nancy followed his gaze. 

Locking eyes with Ethan, Emily got straight to the point. “I need to talk to you about something.” 

Ethan frowned slightly, irritation evident on his face. “What’s up?” 

“My parents want to see Sophia. I’ll take her to their place tonight and stay over. I’ll drop her off at kindergarten tomorrow, and you can pick her up later in the day,” Emily said. 

After five years of marriage to Emily, Ethan had never Ae her family, nor had he ever brought it up.

It was no lie. 

With her own independent thoughts, Sophia wouldn’t blindly follow Ethan’s words. 

It was just that she was more in awe of her dad.

“No need,” she said, then turned around, determined to preserve her last bit of dignity.
