Chapter 244 Acting Tough 

Instead of letting go, Hugh tightened his grip on her hand and reached for her waist. 

Sensing his inappropriate advances, Emily snapped at him, “Hugh, what do you think you’re doing?” 

Dropping all pretense, Hugh revealed his ugly side. “Ethan doesn’t like you anyway. Your body’s just going to waste. Why not let me enjoy it? I’ll marry you once you two get divorced, how’s that?” 

He pulled Emily close, leaning down to whisper vulgar words in her ear. 

Lifting her head, Emily glared at him. “Bastard, let me go!” 

Hugh didn’t get angry–he just smiled, “What are you gonna do about it?” 

Not hesitating, Emily lifted her foot to kick him between the legs. He blocked the blow instinctively with his hand, though, so the kick barely hurt. 

Enraged by her resistance, Hugh snapped. 

“Emily, are you testing my patience?” he snarled, reaching out to tear at her clothes. 

A loud roar cut through the air just then. “Hugh, you son of a bitgh–touch Alexander’s woman and you’re dead meal!”

Before the words faded, Michael charged over from behind Emily.

Reaching Hugh, he threw a punch without a second thought- blood instantly trickled from Hugh’s mouth. 

Clutching his jaw, Hugh glared at Michael angrily. “I’ll touch whoever I want–what’s it to you?” 

Shielding Emily behind him, Michael turned back to Hugh. “Go on, try touching her again. Don’t think we’re scared to mess with you just because your lousy company’s tied to Ethan and that scumbag Andrew. Alexander could ruin you in a minute. You think you’re worthy of touching his woman?” 

Hugh’s blood ran cold at Michael’s words. 

Power in Los Angeles was split between two factions–Ethan’s 

and Alexander’s. 

Clinging to Ethan didn’t mean he could afford to offend 

Alexander. 

Michael’s threat sent a chill down his spine, but he still put on a bold front. 

“We’ll see, Michael. Someday, you’ll be begging me for a favor,” 

he said. 

Michael scoffed in disdain. “Beg you? You wish.” 

Knowing he couldn’t stand up to Michael, Hugh slunk away in défeat.

“I’ll drive you home,” he offered. 

Grateful, Emily shook her head. “It’s okay, I drove here myself. I can go back alone.” 

Clearly unconvinced, Michael insisted, “Then I’ll follow you in my car. I’ll leave once you’re home safe.” 

Emily tried to refuse, but Michael cut her off. “Let’s go. No arguments.” 

Reluctantly, she agreed.

Alexander and Kyrian were already there—just the two of them. 

Taking a seat on the sofa, Michael picked up a bunch of grapes from the fruit platter, popping one into his mouth and chewing slowly. 

Glancing at Alexander, who sat across from him looking glum, Michael spoke up, “I saw Emily earlier.” 

Alexander had been staring at the floor, but he looked up sharply at that. “Where?” 

“At a park,” Michael said. 

“Alright,” Alexander replied casually, feigning indifference. 

Seeing through his act, Michael added, “She didn’t look happy.” 

Alexander’s hand tightened instinctively, but he shrugged nonchalantly. “It’s not like she’s upset because of me. Don’t tell me this stuff.” 

Knowing Alexander was lying through his teeth, Michael popped the last grape into his mouth. “Hugh harassed her. She was

The words barely left his mouth when Alexander stood up abruptly. His face was cold, and he walked out of the private room without a word. 

Watching him go, Michael chuckled and said, “Knew you were soft under that tough act. Must be killing you inside, huh?”

Back at Carter Manor, Emily went to the bathroom to wash up. 

After her shower, she walked out wrapped in a bath towel. 

Drying her hair with a towel for a moment, she pulled the bath towel off. 

A loud thud came from behind her just as she did. 

Startled, Emily grabbed the towel to cover her naked body, her voice tense with alarm. 

“Who’s there?” 

Glancing over her shoulder while yanking the towel tighter to cover herself, Emily froze when she saw who it was. 

“Alexander?” 

Alexander stared at her, his face flushed bright red.
