The sight of Nancy’s actions made the leading teachers instinctively press their lips in diglain.

Amanda stepped in, clapping her hands loudly. “Alright, folks, quiet down and listen up! Today, for the autumn outing, we’ll pair up two parents with two kids in each group. First, we’ll take the bus to Breeze Crest Park. Once there, we’ll gather firewood to cook. After the meal, we’ll share all the delicious food we’ve made. In the afternoon, there’ll be parent–child games, drawing, and singing. When it’s all wrapped up, parents, come and check in with me, then leave in an orderly way.” 

As Amanda spoke, the parents gradually fell silent. 

Once she finished, a flurry of voices surrounded Nancy. 

“Sophie’s Mom, can we be in a group?” 

Both dads and moms with their little ones were vying to team up 

with her. 

Nancy’s arrival had thrown the once–orderly line into disarray 

twice. 

Amid the chaos, only Emily and Alexander, along with their children, remained unmoved. 

The teachers frowned at the disorder.

It was a practical idea, as it would be easier without the kids, and it also gave her a chance to be alone with Alexander. 

Alexander thought it made sense and nodded. “Sounds good.” 

Before leaving, Nancy laid out all the supplies and told Sophia and Tommy to start prepping the food. 

Then she said to Alexander, “Let’s get going, Mr. Lessing.” 

Nancy couldn’t help but feel that Alexander was a lot more reserved in person than on WhatsApp.

Alexander knew Tommy’s backstory. His mom had passed away during childbirth. 

His dad, Kyrian, had remained single all these years, determined to give Tommy all his love.

Meanwhile, Nancy had finally caught up. 

Just as Alexander pushed Sophia away, Nancy instinctively wrapped her arms around the frightened girl. 

“Nancy, rein her in,” Alexander snarled, his face darkened with anger. His eyes were like ice, cold and full of menace as he

She’d never seen Alexander in such a fury. 

Sophia, utterly terrified by Alexander’s threatening demeanor, buried her face in Nancy’s arms and sobbed uncontrollably. 

Across the way, Tommy had stopped crying the moment he spotted Alexander returning. 

After intimidating Sophia, Alexander bent down and scooped Tommy up into his arms. He carried the boy to a secluded corner and gently put him down. 

Crouching in front of Tommy, Alexander gently ruffled the boy’s hair. His voice softened as he said, “It’s my bad. I shouldn’t have left you all alone.” 

Even though Alexander often joked around with Tommy, he truly regarded the boy as his own flesh and blood. How could he stand to see Tommy hurt?

Tommy shook his head. Despite his red–rimmed eyes, managed a small smile. “It’s okay, Mr. Lessing. You didn’t do anything wrong. No need to say sorry.” 

Alexander’s heart ached even more. He pulled Tommy into a tight hug. “Come on, let’s find a new group. We ain’t gonna stick around with that little brat.”

Amanda guessed what Alexander had in mind. She turned to Tommy with a gentle smile and asked, “So, Tommy, which group would you like to join?” 

Without missing a beat, Tommy replied, “I wanna be in Molly’s group.”
