After his outburst, Ethan rose from his seat. He didn’t give a damn that Emily had just had a dilation and curettage, nor did he care about the blood seeping from her forehead where it hit the bedrail.

Emily slumped on the hospital bed, her forehead pressed against the bedrail. Too weak to move, she turned her head and watched Ethan’s figure fade from sight.
