Locked in an exuberant spin, Alexander whisked Emily around the room, showing no sign of slowing down. 

Emily, however, was quickly succumbing to dizziness, her stomach churning. 

Reaching out, she gently patted his shoulder. “Alexander, cut it out. I’m about to puke,” she groaned. 

At her words, Alexander finally halted. 

But as he set Emily down, his footing faltered. The next thing they knew, they were tumbling onto the bed in a heap. 

Standing at well over six feet, Alexander was a big guy. As they fell, he instinctively propped his hands on either side of Emily to spare her from his full weight. 

Even so, his face, chest, and more were pressed flush against 

her. 

Emily had on nothing but a flimsy nightgown. 

The faint fragrance of her body wash wafted up, and her long, silky hair fanned out on the pillow. The fall had made her nightgown cling to her, hinting at the curves beneath.

Alexander felt consumed by her intoxicating allure. In a split second, his mind went blank. 

Meanwhile, his face and body burned with a feverish heat. 

Emily had hit the bed hard and was in pain. Once it dulled a bit, she pushed at Alexander, but he barely budged. Instead, she felt the heat and tension in his body. 

Her cheeks turned scarlet, and she turned her face away. “Alexander, get off me,” she mumbled. 

Alexander was a muddled mess. He could hardly hear his own voice as he replied, “Okay… okay.” 

Then he sat up beside her. 

Yet, Emily’s scent lingered in the air, like an addictive perfume that he couldn’t resist. 

Emily straightened her nightgown, cleared her throat, and asked, “Thought you’d be at the hospital with your mom.” 

She sat up, leaning against the headboard, her eyes filled with confusion as she looked at Alexander’s back. 

Feeling her gaze, Alexander still didn’t turn around. “She sent me to see how you were,” he said.

“Go back, then,” Emily murmured. 

But Alexander shook his head. “I came here for you. You’re not getting rid of me that easy,” he insisted. 

Then, he suddenly swiveled to face her, his eyes pleading. “Just a little while longer,” he begged. 

Emily let out a sigh. “It’s so late. What do you have in mind?” 

Alexander paused briefly. 

Then, a mischievous smile spread across his face. He leaned in closer and whispered, “I could stay. If you’re up for some fun, I’m game.” 

Emily immediately grasped his meaning and scowled. 

“You’re such a pig,” she snapped. 

Alexander just grinned back, the smile reaching his eyes. 

He edged closer, wanting to rattle her. 

Emily backed up, her eyes wary. 

Just as he was about to close the gap, Alexander suddenly stopped short. He tilted his head and listened intently. “You hear that?” he asked.

With a wary look, Emily sized Alexander up. Frowning, she blurted out, “What?” 

Alexander just pointed towards the adjacent room. “Listen carefully,” he said casually. 

That got Emily intrigued. 

She followed suit and lent an ear. 

The noises from next door instantly turned her cheeks a deep shade of red. Fuming, she snapped at Alexander, “You’re so freaking shameless!” 

Alexander merely flashed a faint smile. Swiftly, he grabbed her hand and pressed it to his chest. Leering at her playfully, he drawled, “If you’re game, we could make some noises of our own for them to hear.” 

Fed up with his teasing, Emily shot back seriously, “If you think you’ve got the balls, then come on.” 

Alexander’s eyes brightened with excitement. “For real?” 

But his excitement quickly faded, replaced by disappointment. 

He sat up straight and glared at her. “You…” he started, but his anger clogged his throat.

Alexander got to his feet. His back was to Emily at first, but his anger got the better of him, and he turned around. “You know I’m head–over–heels for you. You know I can’t bear to hurt you. So you think you can just keep breaking my heart, huh? Do you really think I’ll always be this nice to you?” 

Emily let out a bitter chuckle. She was about to tell him she didn’t need his kindness, but before she could, Alexander smacked his own face. 

“I’m such a fool. Even if you shred my heart to pieces, I’ll still be all over you.” 

Those words left Emily in a bit of a trance. 

How many women could resist such sweet nothings? 

Had she not known his ulterior motives, she might have already fallen for his act. 

After a brief moment of contemplation, Emily murmured softly, “Go back. I need some rest.” 

Alexander stared at her with blood–red eyes, full of hurt and 

resentment. 

Not satisfied with just the glare, he marched over, grabbed the back of her head, and yanked her into his embrace.

Emily let out a soft grunt of pain. 

Releasing her, Alexander growled angrily, “That’s payback for all the pain you’ve caused me.” 

With that, he stormed out of the bedroom. 

Behind him, Emily clasped her ear, her face twisted in pain. 

As she watched his retreating back, a jumble of emotions welled up inside her. 

Why was he acting this way when it was Nancy he was supposed to love? 

She couldn’t make sense of it, and she found this side of Alexander utterly loathsome.
