“Aunt Emily, you’re back! How was your day? Are you tired? Grandma told the maid to make your favorite fried chicken wings with barbecue sauce and steak with baked potatoes for you.”Â
Emily picked Molly up and kissed her forehead gently. “Sweetie, seeing you makes all my tiredness go away. I’m so happy to have a niece like you–how could I be tired?”Â
Beaming, Molly cupped Emily’s face. “Aunt Emily, you look gorgeous today!”Â
“Thanks, sweetie. You’re a real beauty, too,” Emily responded with a warm smile.Â
“But people say I’m fat,” Molly said, pouting.Â
“Not at all! You’ll grow into a stunning young lady as you get older. You know, girls change a lot as they grow up,” Emily said.Â
“I believe you, Aunt Emily,” Molly replied, noddingÂ
happily. 1/7Â

Across the road, Mark opened the car door, but Sophia sat there, lost in thought.Â
“Ms. Sophia Wilson?” Mark prompted.Â
Sophia snapped out of her reverie, her eyes already misty. She’d heard every word of the conversation between Emily and Molly.Â
Emily was so patient and gentle with Molly, but on the phone with her, it was always a quick goodbye.Â
It seemed Emily really didn’t love her anymore.Â
Things weren’t like this before.Â
“Ms. Sophia Wilson, are you still going to see Mrs. Wilson?” Mark asked.Â
Feeling a pang in her heart, Sophia said, “No, take me back to Joy Gardens. I want to see Nancy.”Â
If Emily didn’t love her, she wouldn’t force herself on Emily.Â
At least Nancy was always there, caring only about herb:31Â

her tears.Â
Why did Mommy change so suddenly?Â
Lucky DrawÂ
Emily used to love her so much. How could she just stop loving her?Â
Well, if Mommy didn’t love me, I had Nancy.Â
Nancy is the one who truly cares about me.Â

At Carter Manor, dinner was postponed because EmilyÂ
hadn’t returned.Â
The family sat around the table, enjoying a warm and happy atmosphere.Â
Molly was sitting between Emily and Chloe, grinning from ear to ear as they served her food.Â
“Mommy, Aunt Emily, the school performance isÂ
tomorrow. I’m so excited and nervous!”Â
Brolly absentmindedly licked her fingers.Â

Softly, Chloe told Molly, “Don’t be afraid, sweetie. Mommy and Aunt Emily will be right by your side. Just give it your all. Whether you snag that little gold star or not, you’re the absolute best.”Â
Giggling with excitement, Molly was brimming with anticipation.Â
Suddenly, as if a thought had just struck her, a worried expression clouded her face as she turned to Emily. “Aunt Emily, is it truly all right?”Â
This wasn’t the first time Molly had asked this question.Â
She and Sophia attended the same kindergarten.Â
Instead of accompanying Sophia, Emily was there for Molly’s event, which made Molly happy but also made her wonder if Sophia would be sad.Â
Emily had given this situation much thought. She initially had no clue that the two girls were in the same school. It was only when Molly mentioned it that she found out.Â
However, she’d promised Molly first.Â

After weighing all these factors, Emily smiled at Molly and reassured her, “It’s fine.”Â
How she wished she could be there for her own daughter!Â
But it seemed Sophia didn’t need her.Â
Their relationship had changed, and they couldn’t go back to the way things used to be.Â
If only she hadn’t heard those hurtful words from Sophia, if only she hadn’t known Sophia cared more about Nancy.Â
But life has no “what–ifs.”Â

The next morning, Molly woke up bright and early. She roused Chloe first and then came to get Emily.Â
It was the day of the kindergarten event. The teacher had said kids could either get made up at home or at school.Â
Given Chloe’s background as a former model, she decided to do Molly’s makeup herself.Â
They needed to arrive at school by 8:30 a.m., so Chloe gotÂ

After Molly’s wake–up call, Emily also got out of bed.Â
Chloe did Molly’s makeup, picked a lovely dress for her, and tied her hair into two cute pigtails with colorful ribbons. Every time Molly bounced around, the ribbons danced in the air, showing her childish charm.Â
Once Molly was all set, Chloe wandered into Emily’s room. “Hey, Emily, let me do your makeup,” she proposed.Â
Emily was already dressed in a comfortable casual outfit and had a baseball cap on.Â
She was aware of what the event involved: aÂ
school–arranged dance and some parent–child interactions.Â
It wasn’t the occasion to dress up too formally. Comfort was essential for interacting with the kids.Â
“Chloe, I’ll pass. I’m gonna play games with Molly later,” she said.Â
Emily had fantasized about attending parent–child events With Sophia many times and had even searched online fo}Â

Still, she was glad she could support Molly.Â

Chloe understood Emily’s feelings well. “Playing games doesn’t stop you from looking good. Makeup is for making yourself feel great. A simple, fresh make–up look can really boost your mood. Come on, let me give you a natural–looking base,” she persuaded.Â
Unable to resist Chloe’s kind invitation, Emily didn’tÂ
decline further.Â
Since giving birth to Sophia, she’d rarely worn makeup. But her good skin meant she didn’t look any older than her peers.Â
With just a bit of Chloe’s touch, her features became more prominent, and she looked younger and more beautiful.Â
Chloe held up a mirror and asked, “See, isn’t it much better?”Â
Looking at herself in the mirror, Emily was momentarilyÂ
lost in a daze.Â
