Chapter 49 Out of Sophia’s BusinessÂ
Lucky DrawÂ
When Emily came over, Sophia ran away aggrievedly.Â
Spotting Sophia bolting off, Nancy took off in pursuit, shouting, “Sophie!”Â
Emily carried an imposing and fierce air. Given that the swear–using woman was in the wrong, she chickened out and fell silent.Â
By the time Nancy chased out, Sophia had disappeared.Â
In a hurry, she phoned Ethan. “Ethan, have you arrived? Sophie got cussed at just now and ran off. I can’t find her.”Â
Ethan had promised to come and accompany Sophia to the parent–child activity today, just a bit late.Â
On hearing that Sophia was insulted, Ethan frowned. “Got it. I’ll be there in a couple of minutes.”Â
Filled with unease, Nancy apologized. “Ethan, sorry. 16:32 didn’t protect Sophie well.”Â

approaching with a worried look, calling out Sophia’sÂ
name.Â
At that moment, Nancy’s hand was still bleeding nonstop from the broken nail.Â
But in the face of Sophia’s disappearance and the need to answer to Ethan, she didn’t even think about her own pain.Â
As Emily drew near, Nancy still greeted her, “Ms. Carter.”Â
Emily gave her a cold look and demanded sharply, “Where’s Sophie?”Â
Nancy pointed in a direction. “She probably went that way.”Â
Without uttering a word, Emily skirted past Nancy and rushed off.Â
The school event was still going on. Worried about Emily, Molly sent Chloe to help find Sophia.Â
Emily scoured every classroom but couldn’t locate sophia.Â

Clearly having been sobbing, Sophia lay slumped on Ethan’s shoulder, her body still convulsing with cries.Â
Ethan’s big hand rubbed her back, both to comfort her and keep her steady.Â
A pang of pain shot through Emily’s heart at the sight of her daughter. “Sophie,” she called softly.Â
With a frosty look on his face and eyes full of hostility, Ethan glared at Emily and barked, “So this is what you meant by being swamped?”Â
His voice, low and menacing, dripped with accusation.Â
In the restroom, Sophia had poured out the whole story to Ethan.Â
He now knew that Emily’s “business” was performing with Molly. He understood why Sophia had been gossiped about and how Nancy had injured her nail while trying to impress others for Sophia.Â
Emily guessed Sophia must have spilled the beans to Ethan. She didn’t back down under Ethan’s intimidating demeanor.Â

Ethan was infuriated to see Emily showing no sign of remorse and instead acting so self–assured. He let out a sarcastic laugh. “You really think you’re in the right, huh?”Â
As far as Ethan was concerned, Emily was at fault for not putting Sophia first.Â
Little did he know about the emotional turmoil that had left Emily disheartened.Â
Emily wasn’t about to offer any explanations to Ethan. “Whatever.”Â
Feeling let down, Ethan scooped up Sophia and started walking away. He tossed over his shoulder, “Since you’re so eager to wash your hands of Sophie, then just stay out of it from now on.”Â
With that, he strode past Emily with Sophia in his arms.Â
Emily called after him, “That’s precisely what I had in mind.”Â
Ethan stopped short. Spinning around, he fixed her with Aforious glare. “You…”Â

But he never anticipated her quick agreement.Â

Gone was the Emily who once held Sophia as the center of her world.Â
The woman in front of him now seemed like a completeÂ
stranger.Â
Stepping closer, Emily met Ethan’s gaze head–on. “Since you’ve said your piece, I’ll lay it on the line. From today, I’m out of Sophie’s business.”Â
These weren’t just heated words; it was a decision she’d long made.Â
Ethan’s eyes locked on her, with his brows knitted and his face gloomy.Â
Hearing Emily’s words, Sophia lifted her head from Ethan’s shoulder.Â
Maybe out of fear of an argument or the dread of losing her mom’s care, she softly called, “Mommy.”Â
At the sight of her daughter, Emily’s heart ached. But Fecalling Molly’s words, she took another step forward:32Â

Reaching up, Emily tenderly caressed Sophia’s cheek. “Sophie, remember what I said. No bullying, no looking down on others, and no cussing. Own up to your mistakes, okay?”Â
