Just as there was more to be said, Nancy materialized out of thin air, calling out, “Andrew.” 

At the call, Andrew whipped around. A warm smile instantly lit up his face as he greeted, “Nancy. 

With Nancy, Andrew was a different man altogether. 

And it wasn’t just him; everyone around Ethan, including Shawn, treated Nancy with deference. 

But Emily was the black–sheep. Despite being Ethan’s wife, she was ignored by everyone in Ethan’s circle. 

Instead, they gave Nancy the same attention they gave Ethan. 

It was obvious why; Ethan’s heart had always belonged to 

Nancy. 

In the old days, this would have left Emily heartbroken. But now, she was eerily calm. 

Nancy caught sight of Emily and looked slightly taken aback. She then asked Andrew, “What’s up?” 

“It’s nothing, Nancy.” Andrew gave a nonchalant shrug. 

Nancy didn’t pry further. She turned to Emily and offered, “Ms.

Andrew got riled up by Emily’s attitude. “How dare you talk to Nancy like that?” 

“Andrew, it’s fine. Ethan’s coming. Don’t make a fuss.” Nancy stepped in front of Andrew. 

Hearing this, Andrew backed down. 

Emily found the whole situation hilarious but said nothing and simply turned to leave. 

In her rush to exit the restaurant, she tripped on the stairs and went tumbling down. 

Just then, a hand reached out to catch her. “Are you alright?” 

It seemed her ankle was sprained, and she couldn’t stand up straight for ages. 

Surprised, she looked back and saw it was Aaron. 

Emily’s eyes welled up with tears. As she dropped her gaze, a tear trickled down her cheek.

Aaron still smiled softly, “I’m not scared.” 

Ever since Orion informed him of his dismissal, Aaron had a sneaking suspicion. 

The only person capable of sabotaging his medical career was likely Ethan. 

Given the recent events, it was easy to connect the dots. 

Emily hung her head, still apologetic. “Sorry.” 

Aaron took her arm playfully. “What, you gonna stay here all night?” 

Hearing this, Emily finally managed to get up with Aaron’s support.

The pain in her ankle was unbearable, and she broke into a cold sweat. She couldn’t put any weight on it and leaned heavily on 

Aaron. 

Just then, a waiter’s voice floated over from a short distance away. “Mr. Wilson.” 

At the sound, Emily looked up to find Ethan passing right in front of her. 

Truth be told, Ethan had seen Emily long before. He’d witnessed her stumble down the steps outside the restaurant entrance and also caught Aaron slyly slipping a card into her bag. 

And of course, he’d heard Aaron’s query, “What on earth are you giving me this bank card for?” 

Ethan had taken in every detail, and the close rapport between Emily and Aaron couldn’t help but arouse his suspicions. 

In Emily’s eyes, Ethan was a heartless man. As he walked by, he didn’t even cast a glance her way, not to mention offering any words of concern. 

Well, wasn’t that just typical of him? 

It seemed that even if she were to drop dead at his feet, he’d remain as stoic as ever.

The thought brought a bitter smile to Emily’s face.

Emily simply nodded. “Sure.” 

Leaning on Aaron, she made her way to the flowerbed by the road and sat down. 

Once inside the restaurant, Ethan didn’t head for the private room number Andrew had given him. Instead, he craned his neck and peeked through the glass door at Emily and Aaron outside. 

There was Aaron, crouching in front of Emily, removing her shoe and massaging her ankle. 

In Ethan’s book, it was a move that showed a lack of dignity. 

How could a man do something like that in full view of everyone? 

A wave of disdain washed over him. 

No wonder Aaron was going nowhere in life. 

The more Ethan thought about it, the more annoyed he got. Before he realized it, he’d pulled out his phone and called Lucas.
