Ten days after Emily moved to the countryside, she ran into Aaron one evening. 

The countryside was blessed with fresh air. The days were scorching hot. 

But as night fell, the temperature dropped, making it the ideal time for a stroll along the stream in this small town. 

The gurgling stream was a beautiful sight. Wild ducks swam gracefully, and kids were splashing around in the water. 

On the steps by the riverbank, some people were dancing to lively music, adding to the vibrant atmosphere. 

The laughter, the sound of splashing water, and the music all blended together, creating the most vivid scene in the town. 

The sky was orange and red as the sun set. The last rays of sunlight filtered through the trees, casting dappled shadows everywhere. 

Amid the cheers of the kids playing in the water, Emily spotted 

Aaron in casual clothes. 

He was wearing a clean white shirt, faded blue jeans, and a pair of white sneakers.

Amid the noisy crowd, he stood there, his eyes cutting through the throng and landing on Emily. 

Their gazes locked, and Emily was momentarily stunned.

Aaron waved his hand in front of her face and asked, “What are you thinking about? You’re so spaced out!” 

“What brings you here?” Emily held back her tears as she asked. 

Aaron turned to face the setting sun and replied, “Just came out to relax.” 

Emily knew there was more to it. She asked, “Have you had dinner?” 

Instead of answering, Aaron grabbed her arm and said, “There’s a place I want to show you.” 

Before Emily could even respond. Aaron took her hand and led her out of the crowd. 

The place Aaron had in mind was a paddy field outside the town. In September, the fields were lush green. The air was incredibly refreshing.

Aaron just shrugged it off and said nonchalantly, “Consider it an early retirement.” 

Emily knew his situation inside out. After a brief silence, she suddenly spoke up, “I’ll ask my brother to see if he can sort things out for you.” 

Looking her straight in the eye, Aaron said seriously, “Emily, I told you, they’ll come groveling and plead for me to return.” 

Still skeptical, Emily asked, “But what if they don’t?” 

In Los Angeles, Ethan held a significant amount of sway, 

Undeterred, Aaron stayed calm. “They will. Have faith in me.” 

Just as Emily was about to say more, Aaron cut her off, “Emily,

let’s just soak in the starry view. Once we’re back in LA, we won’t get to see such beauty again.” 

Unable to refuse, Emily looked up at the sky, her heart filled with worry. 

After all, Aaron’s trouble was because of her, and she was determined to find a solution. 

It would be a real pity if all his hard–earned achievements were ruined because of Ethan’s words. 

It was already ten o’clock at night when they got back to Emily’s temporary dorm at the hospital. 

After a quick wash, Emily lay in the narrow bed, absentmindedly scrolling through her phone. 

With so many things on her mind, she couldn’t find peace. 

After much thought, she realized there was only one way to solve Aaron’s problem: to plead with Ethan. 

But why should she? She and Aaron hadn’t done anything 

wrong.

He always put on an act of being completely smitten with every woman he met. 

His eyes seemed to sparkle with affection for whoever they landed on. 

He’d once gone all out to flirt with Emily, even claiming that if she didn’t marry Ethan, he’d make her his wife.
