Shot with disdain, Andrew sneered, “Who asked you to interfere?” 

With a raised eyebrow, Alexander drawled playfully, “What’s the matter? Can’t take a little teasing?” 

Andrew’s face clouded over, and he snapped, “Alexander!” 

Nonchalantly scratching his ear, Alexander shrugged. “I’m right here. No need to shout. You’ll startle my girl.” 

Andrew’s face flamed red. He considered himself thick–skinned, 

but Alexander took it to another level. 

As he noticed Andrew’s irritation, Alexander’s grin widened. “Looks like you’re all riled up. Well, that’s music to my ears.” 

With a booming laugh, Alexander wrapped his arm around Emily’s waist and sauntered off. 

Moments later, Ethan stepped out of the VIP room. 

Andrew, fuming, pointed in the direction Alexander had left. “That Alexander is insufferable. I could punch his lights out.” 

Ethan’s eyes were fixed in the distance, his expression unreadable. He replied coolly, “Ie has the right to be cocky.”

“But Ethan, he’s making a move on your woman,” Andrew protested.

“She doesn’t deserve the title. In my book, only Nancy can be Sophie’s mom and be with Ethan,” Andrew grumbled under his breath. 

Out on the street, Alexander still hadn’t removed his arm from Emily’s waist. 

Lost in her own thoughts, Emily didn’t even realize it. 

It was only when Alexander opened the car door that Emily snapped back to reality. She took step back and said, “Mr. Lessing, thanks for tonight.” 

Alexander sensed Emily’s preoccupation but kept quiet. He leaned in closer, locking eyes with her, and said with a smile, 2/5

Realizing she’d been had, Emily scowled. “Alexander, you…” 

Locking eyes with her, Alexander asked, “Are you mad at me?” 

Without a word, Emily turned her head away. 

A soft smile spread across Alexander’s face, his eyes brimming with warmth. 

“You’re so adorable when you’re smiling. I can’t help but want to kiss you,” he murmured as he leaned in towards Emily.

In a half–pleading voice, she blurted out, “Alexander, I want to head back.” 

At her plea, Alexander’s heart softened. 

He stood up straight, creating some space between them, and then said in a calm tone, “Okay then, let me drive you.” 

“No, I’ll just catch a cab.” Emily refused, and right away, she hailed a taxi. 

Once she was inside, the cab sped off. 

As the taxi disappeared from sight, Alexander broke into a gentle smile, his eyes brimming with tenderness. 

Inside the moving cab, Emily settled by the window, lost in thought as she stared out at the cityscape of towering buildings and bustling crowds. 

Up ahead, on the giant screen of a shopping mall, an 

advertisement was playing. There was Nancy, seated gracefully at a piano. Her curly hair framed her face, and her well–done makeup enhanced her beauty. The red dress she wore clung to her slender figure, making her skin look even more radiant. With a gentle and alluring smile on her face, she was simply irresistible. 

Many passers–by stopped in their tracks to look up, their eyes full of admiration.
