Chapter 85 Held a Special Place in His Heart 

After leaving the banquet hall, Emily found herself on the roadside, waiting for a cab. 

Given that a group of people had already left earlier, hailing a ride was no easy feat. 

She stood there for several minutes, but no cabs seemed to be 

available. 

Anxiety started to creep up on Emily. She pulled out her phone multiple times, yet was at a loss as to whom she could call. 

Just as she was getting desperate, Ethan’s voice came from a 

short distance behind her. 

“Emily,” he called, his tone cool and detached. 

Turning around, Emily saw Ethan and Nancy. Nancy was hanging on Ethan’s arm, and they made a strikingly good–looking couple. 

Nancy sized Emily up with a hint of inquisitiveness in her eyes, while Ethan offered, “We’re going back. Come along?” 

Looking at the deserted street, Emily was worried sick about Sophia. With no other option, she agreed. “Okay,” she said.

As Ethan opened the rear door and stood up straight, he noticed Emily was already settled in the front. For a brief moment, the smile on his face faltered. 

But he quickly recovered and said to Nancy, “Get in.” 

Nancy’s long dress got snagged as she was getting in. Ethan quickly bent down and tucked the dress inside the car. 

Then he slid in beside her. 

In the front seat, Emily turned her gaze to the window, not keen on paying attention to the pair in the back. 

But fate had other plans. She heard Nancy whine, “Ethan, my head’s killing me.” 

Her voice had that flirtatious, girlish tone. 

Through the rear–view mirror, Emily saw Ethan lean towards Nancy. He placed his hand on her forehead, then on his own. “You’re not running a temp. Must ve been a long night. Let me rub your head,” he said. 

“Thanks, Ethan.” Nancy grinned and nodded.

A smile spread across Ethan’s face. He motioned for Nancy to turn around and then began massaging her head. 

The whole scene was captured in the rear–view mirror, where Emily sat watching. It seemed that she had gotten used to 

Ethan’s doting on Nancy, considering it just the way things were. 

Things that Ethan would never do for Emily were routine when it came to Nancy. 

Clearly, Nancy held a special place in his heart. 

The thought stung. Emily felt a lump in her throat, and her eyes welled up. But she didn’t want anyone to see her weakness, so she pretended to check her phone. 

And just then, a new message popped up. It was from Alexander. 

[Hey, sweetie. I’ve sent the bracelet to you. If you don’t want it, just ditch it.] 

Emily’s heart dropped. Alexander was clearly challenging her, wagering that she wouldn’t simply discard something worth a fortune. 

If she didn’t toss it, she’d end up keeping it. 

But accepting it meant she couldn’t return it to Alexander.

As Emily entered the hall, she spotted Sophia crouched in front 

of the coffee table, engrossed in playing with toys. 

Hearing the clatter of high heels, Sophia whipped her head around. “Nancy, you’re…” 

The word “back” died on her lips as she stared at the woman in a stunning red dress. 

Sophia was utterly stunned.

Emily replied with a soft “Yeah.” 

Amazed by how beautiful her mom looked, Sophia ran over and hugged her leg. Looking up at her, she asked, “Mommy, did you go to the party with Daddy?”
