Morana’s POV

The battlefield had gone eerily quiet. One heartbeat ago, the forest had been alive with snarls, screams, and the clash of fangs and claws. But now, the monstrous beasts, those twisted shadows with red eyes and dripping maws, were gone. They had melted back into the darkness as if they had never been here at

all

I stood still. The silver fire was still burning faintly at my fingertips. My chest was heaving from the fight. My cloak clung to my body with sweat and blood. My throat was raw from chanting spells. My heart was racing but not just from exhaustion. Something was wrong

I narrowed my eyes at the empty clearing. Whywould they retreat?I whispered aloud, though no one

was near enough to answer

Shadows never pulled back unless commanded. Fenric’s creations fought until they were destroyed. Yet these had vanished, slipping away into the forest with unnerving swiftness. My instincts screamed that this was no victory. This was a trick

Kael shifted back into his human form. His chest was heaving and blood streaked his bare skin. His eyes burned with frustration as he scanned the ruins. Where is Lisa?he demanded

Rylan followed. He shifted back into his tall and muscular form. His black hair was damp with sweat. His voice trembled slightly as he echoed the question. Where’s Lisa? His gaze darted across the broken stones. His wolf had been restless during the fight. I could feel it. Now I understood why

Kael lifted a hand suddenly. His sharp gaze locked on the altar. There,he said while pointing

I turned quickly and my stomach dropped

Lisa’s body was sprawled on the cold earth beside the black stone. Her cloak was tangled around her. Her hair fanned across the moss. She looked pale….deathly pale. She lay still

For a breath, my heart seized in my chest. Had we lost her? Was it already too late

But Kael’s voice broke the silence. She is there. Hurry!”

Both men bolted toward her. I followed close behind. My silver skirts whipped against my legs as I ran. My

fingers still burned with power, ready to strike at anything that dared approach us

Rylan dropped to his knees beside Lisa and gathered her gently against him. Lisa! His voice cracked with

urgency. He shook her lightly. Lisa, wake up. Please wake up.”

Kael knelt on her other side. He pressed his ear close to her chest. His jaw tightened. She is alive,he said at last. Her heartbeat is there. Faint, but there.”

I felt relieved. I could feel a knot loosening in my chest. But still, my unease didn’t fade. Something was wrong. I could feel it deep in my bones

Chapter 127

I’ll try to wake her,I said firmly and reached forward. My hands glowed faintly with silver as I prepared at

charm to stir her consciousness

But before I could touch her, Lisa’s eyes flew open

A shiver rushed down my spine. Her lashes fluttered, and then, her lips stretched into a wide smile.

smile too wide….. too bright for a girl who had just been lying cold and lifeless. My breath caught

Something about that smile unsettled me

Rylan let out a shaky breath of relief and pulled her closer. Thank the goddess. You scared me,” he murmured. Are you all right? Does anything hurt?”

Lisa tilted her head slightly. Her eyes gleamed strangely in the moonlight. Then, she nodded slowly. Yes

I’m fine. Whatwhat happened? Her voice sounded calm…..too calm

Kael answered before I could. His tone was clipped. His gaze darted toward the treeline. We were

attacked. Thosethings came out of the forest. Wolvesbut not normal wolves. They swarmed us.”

Lisa blinked. She tilted her head again. Oh. I don’t remember.”

Her smile lingered

I frowned. The unease in my chest grew sharper. Something about her expression was not right. She was

too calmtoo collected

I cut in before Kael could say more. Those were not simply wild creatures,” I said sharply. They were

Fenric’s shadows. He sent them. That much I am certain. My voice carried a weight that made both men

look at me

Kael’s jaw tightened. Perhaps. But they’re gone now. Fortunately for us, they disappeared on their own. If they had stayed, we wouldn’t have survived. Not in such numbers. We would have been overrun.”

His words were true but they didn’t comfort me. If anything, they made my unease worse. Shadows did

not simply retreat. Not unless their master wanted them to

Inside my mind, a whisper of doubt grew louder. This was no victory. This was distraction. A veil drawn across our eyes. What had we missed? What had Fenric stolen while we were fighting his illusions

My gaze slid back to Lisa. She sat up with Rylan’s help. Her smile hadn’t faded. Her cheeks were flushed now, as if with excitement. Yet her eyesthere was something hollow in them. Something I couldn’t quite

name

I forced myself to focus. We cannot waste more time,” I said briskly. The altar is before us. The shadows may return at any moment. We must begin the ritual now. If Fenric is truly behind this, then every heartbeat we delay gives him strength.”

Rylan’s head snapped toward me. His arm tightened around Lisa protectively. No,Lisa said suddenly, her voice soft but firm. II don’t feel well. My body is weak. The battle drained me. Can’t wecome back

another time?”

I shook my head sharply. No. We are here. The altar is ready. The bloodline is gathered. This moment may not come again. We must finish this, Lisa. Do you want to risk the shadows returning? Do you want to face

another wave like this one?”

Her smile faltered for the first time. But only for a breath. Then it returned, softer….almost playful. I said no. Not today. I can’t. I’m too weak.”

Rylan pressed a hand against her back. His gaze was fierce on me. She’s right. She’s not well. We’ll come

back. The altar will still be here tomorrow, won’t it?”

I bit down on my frustration. Tomorrow may be too late,I snapped. My voice rang through the ruins. You don’t understand how quickly Fenric works. Every moment he breathes, the curse deepens. If we delay….”

Lisa cut me off with a gentle laugh. A laugh that sent another chill racing down my spine. Morana, please. You worry too much. We’ll be fine. Won’t we, Rylan?”

He nodded at once. His eyes never left her face. Yes. We’ll come back when she is ready.”

Kael said nothing but his gaze lingered on Lisa. His brow was furrowed as if he too sensed something was strange but couldn’t put it into words

I looked at her again. Her skin was pale. Her eyes were gleaming too brightly. She appeared weak, yes, but her smileher smile told another story. Something about her was different….something was wrong

But I couldn’t say what. Not yet

Finally, I exhaled slowly and forced my voice into calm. Fine. If you are too weak, then we’ll return another

day. But I warn you all, Fenric is cunning. He will not stop. This battle tonightit may have been nothing

more than a distraction.”

Neither Kael nor Rylan answered. Their attention was on Lisa. Rylan brushed her hair back tenderly. He

was murmuring to her as if she were made of glass

I turned my gaze back toward the altar. Its dark surface pulsed faintly, as though it had tasted something

already. My stomach tightened

Something was wrong here. Very wrong

I followed them as we began to leave the ruins but unease gnawed at me with every step. My instincts screamed that Fenric had already made his move

And as Lisa walked between Rylan and Kael, leaning into them with that strange and wide smile still

curving her lips, I couldn’t shake the feeling that the girl at our sidewas not truly Lisa at all

The night air pressed down on me. The shadows of the forest seemed to whisper as we passed. My heart

beat faster

Fenric was cunning. And I had the sinking feeling that tonight, we had all played into his hands

“The Wolf Who Couldn’t Shift”

1. The Outcast of Nightshade Pack

Lisa had always been the outcast of her own home — a wolf without a wolf.

In the Nightshade Pack, turning twenty-one meant power, dominance, and pride. Every werewolf her age had already shifted, embracing their animal half. But Lisa hadn’t. Her wolf had never emerged.

Because of that, she was treated as an anomaly, a failure, and a source of shame.
Her parents ignored her. The pack ridiculed her. Even her own blood — her beautiful, perfect sister Roxanne — made her life a living nightmare.

Roxanne was everything Lisa wasn’t: strong, admired, and loved. The perfect daughter. The shining jewel of the family. And to make matters worse, Roxanne was dating Kael Blackthorn, the Alpha’s son — a man everyone respected and desired.

For Lisa, that was the final reminder of her insignificance. Every time she saw them together, it only highlighted the chasm between their worlds.

2. A Celebration That Wasn’t Hers

That night was Roxanne’s birthday, and their mother had transformed their home into a grand venue — lights, laughter, and music filled the air. Roxanne had been gifted a stunning red gown, handpicked by their mother, while Lisa was given a single task: serve the guests.

No one remembered Lisa’s birthday a few months ago. No cake. No presents. No “happy birthday.” Her parents had said it plainly before — Roxanne came first.
Lisa was simply expected to sacrifice and stay silent.

Still, she wanted to look decent. She chose a modest navy-blue dress, applied light makeup, and promised herself she wouldn’t let the night break her.

But the universe — or rather, Roxanne — had other plans.

3. Sister Cruelty

The door burst open, and Roxanne walked in like a queen entering a servant’s quarters. Her crimson lips curved into a smirk.

“What are you doing? You should be downstairs, not wasting time,” she sneered.

“I’ll be down in a minute,” Lisa replied softly, trying to keep her calm.

Roxanne’s eyes glinted with malice. Without warning, she snatched Lisa’s face cream from the dresser and poured it all over her dress.

Lisa gasped as the thick cream soaked through the fabric, staining it completely.

“Roxanne!” she cried, panic and disbelief trembling in her voice. “Why would you do that?”

“Because you’re embarrassing,” Roxanne replied coldly. “You think dressing up will make people notice you? No one cares what you look like, Lisa. You’re nothing but a burden.”

Tears blurred Lisa’s vision as she ran downstairs, desperate for justice. But when she told their mother what had happened, she was met with scorn.

“Roxanne would never do that,” her mother said sharply. “Stop making excuses. Go change and get back to work.”

And there Roxanne stood beside her, smug and triumphant, watching Lisa break in silence.

4. The Invisible Sister

Lisa changed into an old, faded dress — dull and shapeless.
When she finally entered the main hall, guests were already laughing and drinking, the music echoing through the night.

She moved quietly among them, balancing trays and forcing smiles. She served drinks, ignored whispers, and endured Roxanne’s cruel jokes.

One of Roxanne’s friends gave Lisa a small, pitying smile.
“Oh, you must be Lisa, right? Roxanne’s sister?”

Before Lisa could answer, Roxanne appeared and laughed loudly.
“Don’t bother talking to her! She’s just the help tonight — our little maid.”

Her friends giggled, glancing at Lisa like she was a joke.
“She’s really your sister?” one asked. “She doesn’t even look like she belongs here.”

“She doesn’t,” Roxanne said proudly. “She’s an embarrassment to the family.”

The laughter burned like fire in Lisa’s ears. But she didn’t fight back.
She had learned long ago that silence hurt less than hope.

5. The Alpha’s Arrival

Suddenly, the noise died down. All eyes turned toward the entrance.

The Alpha, Luna, and their son Kael Blackthorn — Roxanne’s boyfriend — had arrived. Their presence demanded respect, their aura commanding silence.

Kael was striking — tall, dark-haired, eyes sharp and unreadable. Power radiated from him effortlessly.
He walked straight to Roxanne, pulling her into his arms, kissing her in front of everyone.

The crowd cheered. Roxanne basked in the attention like it was her birthright.

Lisa’s stomach twisted. Not out of jealousy — but from the ache of being so invisible even to those who shared her blood.

“Lisa!” Roxanne called, her tone dripping with authority. “Bring drinks for me and Kael.”

Lisa obeyed. She returned with a tray of crystal glasses, keeping her head down. But when she approached, she felt his gaze.

Kael was watching her.

“Is that your sister?” he asked, his voice low and deep. “What’s her name? I don’t think I’ve seen her before.”

Roxanne laughed, tightening her arm around him.
“Oh, don’t bother. She’s not important. Just the family failure. Focus on me.”

Then she kissed him again — possessive, showy, territorial.

6. The Breaking Point

Something inside Lisa snapped.

For years, she had swallowed humiliation, endured cruelty, and told herself it didn’t matter. But as she stood there, watching her sister claim everything — their parents’ love, the pack’s respect, even Kael’s attention — something deep within her stirred.

Maybe it was anger. Maybe it was pain. Maybe it was the first stirrings of the wolf she thought she’d never have.

But it was there — hot, alive, awake.

She placed the tray down calmly, ignoring Roxanne’s voice calling after her.
She walked away — past the laughter, past the whispers, past every face that had ever looked at her with pity.

They could laugh. They could mock.
But one day, they would see.

7. A Shift Waiting to Happen

As the night went on, Lisa slipped quietly outside. The cool air hit her face, carrying the scent of pine and moonlight.

The party’s laughter echoed behind her, but she barely heard it. Her heart pounded with a strange rhythm, her blood burning beneath her skin.

Something was happening — a pull in her soul, a whisper in her bones.

She tilted her head toward the moon, feeling its glow on her skin.
For the first time in her life, she didn’t feel weak. She felt something ancient stirring inside her, clawing to be free.

Maybe her wolf wasn’t gone.
Maybe it had just been waiting — for the moment Lisa stopped begging to be seen, and started seeing herself.

8. The Beginning of Change

Inside, the celebration continued. Roxanne laughed, oblivious to the storm brewing.

Kael’s eyes flicked toward the window where Lisa stood in the moonlight. For a brief second, something unreadable crossed his expression — curiosity, or maybe recognition.

He didn’t know it yet. None of them did.
But the quiet, invisible girl they had mocked all her life was about to become something far greater than any of them could imagine.

Because sometimes, the wolves who are late to shift…
Are the ones destined to lead the pack.
