_Lisa’s POV_

The world spun around me as the silver light spat me out. My chest heaved as if I had been running for hours. I fell forward but did not touch the ground. Instead, I drifted. I felt completely weightless

Cold air rushed through me, not against me. It was strange. My hands reached down, but they touched nothing

My breath froze. Wheream I?”

I turned. The trees of the forest rose tall and dark around me. The night was quiet except for the sound of owls and the wind brushing through leaves. I knew this place. I had come back. I was in the present

But something was wrong

I looked down at myself. My body wasn’t solid. It shimmered faintly. It was seethrough, like mist caught in moonlight. I tried to touch the ground again. My fingers slipped through the

soil

My stomach twisted. No. No, this can’t be happening. Why don’t I feelreal?”

Sierra’s voice stirred in my head. She was anxious. Lisayou are spirit. You left your body

behind

My heart sank. Then where is my body?”

Before Sierra could answer, I heard laughter. It was soft and childlike. I turned quickly. The freed souls were here. They were glowing faintly like fireflies. They circled me. Their voices were gentle

Look there,” one whispered while pointing with a small glowing hand

I followed their gaze and froze

Through the trees, I saw her

My body

It was moving. Walking through the forest. Hermy long dark brown hair swayed with each step. My familiar figure moved slowly but steadily as if pulled toward something

My breath caught. That’sme.”

Without thinking, I floated forward and glided through the air like a ghost. The closer I came, the more certain I was. The curve of my face, the shape of my hands, the faint scar on my

wrist. It was me

But I was here. And my body was there

I whispered hoarsely, But is this possible? How can I be here and there at the same time?”

The souls gathered near me. Because it is not you walking. Someone else is using your body.”

The words struck me like lightning. My whole chest clenched. What do you meansomeone

else?”

You are soul,” one child said. Your body is empty when you are gone. And another soul has stepped inside.”

I shook my head wildly. No. That’s not possible. My body is mine. Only mine!”

Sierra growled in my mind. Lisacalm yourself. If they are right, then we face something worse than Fenric

The thought made my stomach twist harder

I looked at my body again. She stopped suddenly and leaned against a tree. Her shoulders trembled. I thought maybe she was fighting….maybe it was me breaking through. My heart leapt with hope

I rushed closer. That’s it! I can take myself back.”

The souls nodded. Try.”

I focused with all my strength. I willed myself to sink back into that body. I reached out and pushed forward with everything I had. For a moment, I thought I was inside. I felt skin. I felt breath

But then…..something pushed me back. Hard

Dark energy rippled from my body like black smoke. It burned against me, forcing me away. I screamed in frustration

The souls flinched. One whispered, Do you feel it? That is why. There is power inside her. Dark power. Stronger than you are now.”

I gasped for air I didn’t even have. Who is it? Who’s inside me?”

The souls exchanged worried looks. Their glow dimmed

Finally, one said, We do not know their name. But their spirit is sharp, old and wicked. It clings to you like poison.”

I clutched my head. Then what does they want with my body?”

They are walking toward Shadowrune,” another answered. Toward danger. Toward him.”

Fenric

The name wasn’t spoken, but I felt it in the chill that rolled down my spine

My hands trembled. No. No, I can’t let them do this. That’s my body! My blood! Fenric will use it. He’ll win!”

Sierra growled deep inside me. We cannot give in to panic. Think. There must be another

way

The souls came closer, their lights brushing against me like soft hands. There is another way,one whispered

I jerked my head toward them. Tell me! Please!”

If that soul can step into your body, then balance must allow the opposite. You can step into theirs.”

I froze. My heart pounded painfully. Into theirs?”

Yes,the voices chorused. “Equal and opposite. Their soul steals your vessel. You can take theirs.”

For a moment I couldn’t breathe. My thoughts tangled. Butbut what if I can’t? What if it breaks me?”

Sierra’s voice was firm. Lisa. Listen to them. This may be the only way. You cannot get back what is yoursnot yet. But if you go into that body, you may fight from there

My throat closed with fear. You meanlive in their body?”

Her answer was low and steady. Yes

The souls gathered tighter around me. We will help you,” they said. We will make you light….light enough to pass. Just trust us.”

I shook my head, but then looked again at my body. She had pushed off the tree and was walking faster now. She looked determined. She looked like me. And yet, she was not me

If I lost her, I lost everything

I pressed my trembling hands together. Fine. Do it. Help me.”

The souls joined hands. Their light flared. It was warm and gentle. It washed over me

I felt myself changing. My edges blurred. My body grew faint, more transparent, like mist melting into the air. My chest felt weightless. My whole form was fading

Panic gripped me. Wait! What if I disappear? What if I die?”

Trust,the voices sang. Trust.”

Sierra whispered sharply, Lisa, hold on. Do not fear. This is your strength

I squeezed my eyes shut. The warmth wrapped around me tighter. I let go. I let myself fade

And then…..there was darkness

For a heartbeat, I thought I was gone forever

Then, I opened my eyes

I was lying in a bed. My chest rose and fell with steady breaths. I touched my face and felt skin. It was warm and solid. I felt alive

Relief crashed over me. I was back. I was in a body again

But then the relief shattered

Something was wrong

The sheets smelled of herbs and smoke. The room was large, with heavy curtains that blocked the moonlight. The air was thick and familiar in a way that chilled me. I knew this place

Slowly, I pushed myself up. My arms were thin, pale, and marked with scars I didn’t know. My pulse quickened

NoI whispered

I staggered to my feet. My legs were unsteady. The floor was cold beneath me. My heart pounded as I crossed to the mirror standing in the corner

I forced myself to look

And froze

The reflection was not mine

< Chapter 129

Blue eyes. Sharp cheekbones. A cruel and familiar face

Katherine

I stumbled back, my hand flying to my cheek. The mirror showed her hand, not mine

My voice broke into a whisper. No. No, no, nothis can’t be.”

But it was

I was inside Katherine’s body

And somewhere out there, Katherine was walking in mine

“The Wolf Who Couldn’t Shift”

1. The Outcast of Nightshade Pack

Lisa had always been the outcast of her own home — a wolf without a wolf.

In the Nightshade Pack, turning twenty-one meant power, dominance, and pride. Every werewolf her age had already shifted, embracing their animal half. But Lisa hadn’t. Her wolf had never emerged.

Because of that, she was treated as an anomaly, a failure, and a source of shame.
Her parents ignored her. The pack ridiculed her. Even her own blood — her beautiful, perfect sister Roxanne — made her life a living nightmare.

Roxanne was everything Lisa wasn’t: strong, admired, and loved. The perfect daughter. The shining jewel of the family. And to make matters worse, Roxanne was dating Kael Blackthorn, the Alpha’s son — a man everyone respected and desired.

For Lisa, that was the final reminder of her insignificance. Every time she saw them together, it only highlighted the chasm between their worlds.

2. A Celebration That Wasn’t Hers

That night was Roxanne’s birthday, and their mother had transformed their home into a grand venue — lights, laughter, and music filled the air. Roxanne had been gifted a stunning red gown, handpicked by their mother, while Lisa was given a single task: serve the guests.

No one remembered Lisa’s birthday a few months ago. No cake. No presents. No “happy birthday.” Her parents had said it plainly before — Roxanne came first.
Lisa was simply expected to sacrifice and stay silent.

Still, she wanted to look decent. She chose a modest navy-blue dress, applied light makeup, and promised herself she wouldn’t let the night break her.

But the universe — or rather, Roxanne — had other plans.

3. Sister Cruelty

The door burst open, and Roxanne walked in like a queen entering a servant’s quarters. Her crimson lips curved into a smirk.

“What are you doing? You should be downstairs, not wasting time,” she sneered.

“I’ll be down in a minute,” Lisa replied softly, trying to keep her calm.

Roxanne’s eyes glinted with malice. Without warning, she snatched Lisa’s face cream from the dresser and poured it all over her dress.

Lisa gasped as the thick cream soaked through the fabric, staining it completely.

“Roxanne!” she cried, panic and disbelief trembling in her voice. “Why would you do that?”

“Because you’re embarrassing,” Roxanne replied coldly. “You think dressing up will make people notice you? No one cares what you look like, Lisa. You’re nothing but a burden.”

Tears blurred Lisa’s vision as she ran downstairs, desperate for justice. But when she told their mother what had happened, she was met with scorn.

“Roxanne would never do that,” her mother said sharply. “Stop making excuses. Go change and get back to work.”

And there Roxanne stood beside her, smug and triumphant, watching Lisa break in silence.

4. The Invisible Sister

Lisa changed into an old, faded dress — dull and shapeless.
When she finally entered the main hall, guests were already laughing and drinking, the music echoing through the night.

She moved quietly among them, balancing trays and forcing smiles. She served drinks, ignored whispers, and endured Roxanne’s cruel jokes.

One of Roxanne’s friends gave Lisa a small, pitying smile.
“Oh, you must be Lisa, right? Roxanne’s sister?”

Before Lisa could answer, Roxanne appeared and laughed loudly.
“Don’t bother talking to her! She’s just the help tonight — our little maid.”

Her friends giggled, glancing at Lisa like she was a joke.
“She’s really your sister?” one asked. “She doesn’t even look like she belongs here.”

“She doesn’t,” Roxanne said proudly. “She’s an embarrassment to the family.”

The laughter burned like fire in Lisa’s ears. But she didn’t fight back.
She had learned long ago that silence hurt less than hope.

5. The Alpha’s Arrival

Suddenly, the noise died down. All eyes turned toward the entrance.

The Alpha, Luna, and their son Kael Blackthorn — Roxanne’s boyfriend — had arrived. Their presence demanded respect, their aura commanding silence.

Kael was striking — tall, dark-haired, eyes sharp and unreadable. Power radiated from him effortlessly.
He walked straight to Roxanne, pulling her into his arms, kissing her in front of everyone.

The crowd cheered. Roxanne basked in the attention like it was her birthright.

Lisa’s stomach twisted. Not out of jealousy — but from the ache of being so invisible even to those who shared her blood.

“Lisa!” Roxanne called, her tone dripping with authority. “Bring drinks for me and Kael.”

Lisa obeyed. She returned with a tray of crystal glasses, keeping her head down. But when she approached, she felt his gaze.

Kael was watching her.

“Is that your sister?” he asked, his voice low and deep. “What’s her name? I don’t think I’ve seen her before.”

Roxanne laughed, tightening her arm around him.
“Oh, don’t bother. She’s not important. Just the family failure. Focus on me.”

Then she kissed him again — possessive, showy, territorial.

6. The Breaking Point

Something inside Lisa snapped.

For years, she had swallowed humiliation, endured cruelty, and told herself it didn’t matter. But as she stood there, watching her sister claim everything — their parents’ love, the pack’s respect, even Kael’s attention — something deep within her stirred.

Maybe it was anger. Maybe it was pain. Maybe it was the first stirrings of the wolf she thought she’d never have.

But it was there — hot, alive, awake.

She placed the tray down calmly, ignoring Roxanne’s voice calling after her.
She walked away — past the laughter, past the whispers, past every face that had ever looked at her with pity.

They could laugh. They could mock.
But one day, they would see.

7. A Shift Waiting to Happen

As the night went on, Lisa slipped quietly outside. The cool air hit her face, carrying the scent of pine and moonlight.

The party’s laughter echoed behind her, but she barely heard it. Her heart pounded with a strange rhythm, her blood burning beneath her skin.

Something was happening — a pull in her soul, a whisper in her bones.

She tilted her head toward the moon, feeling its glow on her skin.
For the first time in her life, she didn’t feel weak. She felt something ancient stirring inside her, clawing to be free.

Maybe her wolf wasn’t gone.
Maybe it had just been waiting — for the moment Lisa stopped begging to be seen, and started seeing herself.

8. The Beginning of Change

Inside, the celebration continued. Roxanne laughed, oblivious to the storm brewing.

Kael’s eyes flicked toward the window where Lisa stood in the moonlight. For a brief second, something unreadable crossed his expression — curiosity, or maybe recognition.

He didn’t know it yet. None of them did.
But the quiet, invisible girl they had mocked all her life was about to become something far greater than any of them could imagine.

Because sometimes, the wolves who are late to shift…
Are the ones destined to lead the pack.
