Chapter 59
_Lisa’s POV_
Kael’s hand was warm…too warm. My breath hitched as I stood there, frozen between two worlds-one 1
had left behind and one I was trying to build.
“Please,” he whispered, “don’t go.”
I didn’t turn around fully. I couldn’t. If I saw his face, I wasn’t sure what I would do.
“Let go of me, Kael,” I said, my voice low and trembling.
But he didn’t move. His grip wasn’t tight, just… desperate.
“I made a mistake,” he said again, louder this time. “A huge mistake. Rejecting you… it was the worst thing
I’ve ever done.”
I closed my eyes.
Sierra’s voice echoed inside me. He means it. He’s telling the truth. The shard is still in your mouth. He
can’t lie, Lisa.
No. I couldn’t believe him. I wouldn’t.
“You think I’m a fool?” I snapped and turned sharply. “Do you think I was born yesterday?”
His eyes widened. “No, that’s not what I meant…”
“Because if you really did regret it, Kael,” I said, my voice rising, “you wouldn’t have gotten her pregnant.
You wouldn’t have chosen her. You wouldn’t have flaunted your love for her in my face!”
Kael’s face twisted in pain. “I didn’t choose that. Roxanne….she drugged me, Lisa. She took advantage of
me that night. I didn’t know what I was doing. I would never have touched her willingly.”
I blinked. What?
“She did it on purpose,” he continued, voice raw. “She’s not who I thought she was. She never loved me. She only wanted the title. She wanted to become Luna and to control the power. She has been using me.”
I laughed. It was loud, sharp and bitter.
“You’re unbelievable,” I said. “Do you hear yourself? These stories… Kael, stop. You’re embarrassing
yourself.”
“It’s not a story….”
“You think I’ll believe these fantasy tales you’re spinning now?” I snapped. “You really think I’m that naïve?”
“I’m not lying, Lisa…..”
“Just stop it…”
“I swear to you,” Kael said while stepping closer. “I didn’t know what she did until it was too late. And now
now she is using the pregnancy to trap me. But I never wanted her. I wanted you. I still do.”
His eyes were burning, like he was breaking apart in front of me. My heart squeezed in my chest.
Sierra whispered, He’s not lying.
But I couldn’t trust that voice. Not when everything inside me was trembling.
“Kael…” I shook my head. “Stop. Just stop.”
He reached for my hand again, his fingers brushing mine.
“Please, believe me.”
“No…” I tried to pull away, but he held on. “Let go!”
“She needs to go,” Rylan’s voice cut through the moment like a blade.
I turned to see him striding toward us. His eyes were cold.
“She said no,” Rylan growled. “Take your hands off her.”
Kael didn’t move.
“I won’t hurt her,” he said softly. “I just need to talk to her.”
Rylan stepped between us and grabbed Kael’s wrist, yanking it off mine. “I said, this is enough. If you don’t
back off now, I will intervene.”
For a second, I thought Kael might fight him. His jaw was tight. His shoulders were tense.
But then, slowly, he stepped back.
Rylan turned to me and took my hand gently.
“Let’s go,” he said.
I nodded silently. I didn’t look back at Kael.
He didn’t call out again.
I got into the car, and Rylan slid into the driver’s seat beside me. As the engine roared to life and we pulled away, I stared out the window.
My hand was still shaking.
“Are you okay?” Rylan asked, his voice tight with concern.
“I’m fine,” I whispered. “Just… tired.”
“You shouldn’t have talked to him,” he muttered. “You know he’s been messing with your head. Every time
he’s near, he makes things worse.”
I turned to him. “It’s okay, Rylan. Really. I’m not going back. I don’t belong there. No one knows anything
about my parents.”
Rylan was quiet for a moment, then said, “Maybe you’re asking the wrong people.”
“What do you mean?”
Chim
“You should talk to Alpha Alexis,” he said. “He’s the one who brought you to them. Maybe he remembers
who that warrior was.”
I hesitated. “You think he’ll tell me?”
Rylan shrugged. “If the truthwood is still in your mouth, he has to.”
He was right.
We turned around and headed straight to the Alpha’s house. The guards let us in, and a servant led us to
the study. Alpha Alexis was there. He looked up at us as we entered.
I stood before him and asked, “Do you remember who the warrior was that found me?”
He looked up, surprised.
“I… no,” he said slowly. “I don’t.”
My heart sank.
“I assigned many warriors to patrol the borders. That night… there was chaos. The northern ridge had a lot
of rogue activity. It was years ago. I just remember a baby, wrapped in a bloodstained cloth. A warrior
brought you to me. I gave you to a family I trusted.”
His words rang true. The truthwood pulsed in my mouth.
He wasn’t lying.
I sighed. “Thank you.”
He studied me. “Would you consider coming back to stay with us?”
I looked him in the eye. “No. I already have a home now. I’m with the Frostbane Pack. I won’t return to Nightshade.”
He didn’t argue.
Rylan and I turned and left. The wind was cold outside, but I didn’t feel it.
We drove back in silence for a while.
Then Rylan said, “Are you sure you’re okay?”
I nodded slowly. “Yeah. I mean… I guess I just thought I would learn more. But there’s nothing here. Nothing left.”
He didn’t say anything for a moment, then, “You were brave back there.”
I smiled faintly. “Thanks.”
We drove through the forest roads, heading back toward Frostbane, the only place that had ever felt like
safety.
But my thoughts were spinning.
Kael.
His voice.
His eyes.
His words.
He wasn’t lying, Sierra whispered. You know it.
I clenched my hands on my lap. I know.
He had told me the truth. Every word.
And that meant Roxanne had tricked him. It meant everything was far more twisted than I had believed.
I stared out the window. My heart was thudding hard.
If Kael was telling the truth…
Then he never stopped loving me.
The thought was terrifying. And worse?
I didn’t know what to feel anymore. Anger, doubt and confusion. It all swirled inside me like a storm I
couldn’t calm.
