Chapter 93
Kael’s POV
The moment I stepped out of Morana’s cottage, I didn’t stop. I didn’t pause to think. My boots crushed the underbrush as I moved fast through the forest. I was barely feeling the cold air biting at my face. I didn’t shift. I didn’t need to. My car was parked not far from the edge of the trees, and I needed to move fast….faster than my wolf could run.
Lisa was in danger.
I didn’t know what kind of danger. Morana couldn’t say. But she was certain. And so was
Valric.
“We should have gone to her sooner,” Valric growled inside my head.
“I know,” I muttered and yanked the car door open. My fingers trembled as I shoved the key into the ignition. “I was stupid. I thought I could deal with Roxanne first.”
The engine roared to life. Gravel spat from under the tires as I turned the car around and hit the gas. The forest flew past in a blur. I didn’t stop thinking about Lisa. Her face. Her voice. That fire in her eyes.
“She’s too trusting,” Valric said. “And Rylan has always been too smooth.”
My grip on the steering wheel tightened. I agreed.
Rylan.
Alpha of the Frostbane Pack. The perfect gentleman. The charming savior who always said the right thing and made people feel safe.
But I didn’t trust him. Not anymore.
He was hiding something.
And maybe Lisa couldn’t see it. Maybe she didn’t want to see it. But I did.
And if he was trying to keep her away from me, there had to be a reason.
It took me less than two hours to reach the Frostbane border. The guards at the gate recognized my car instantly. They stood tall, their hands on their weapons.
I rolled down the window.
“I need to speak to your Alpha.”

The taller of the two narrowed his eyes. “Do you have an appointment, Alpha Kael?”
“No,” I said firmly. “But this is urgent. It’s about Lisa.”
The guards exchanged a look. Then the second one nodded. “Wait here. We’ll inform Beta Jared.”
I leaned back in my seat and drummed my fingers against the steering wheel. The sky was overcast. There were clouds hanging low and heavy. The wind carried the scent of pine and frost. I rolled the window up and sat in silence.
After about ten minutes, I saw Jared approaching. He looked calm, professional, but his jaw was tight.
He opened the gate and gestured. “Come with me. The Alpha will see you.”
I followed him down the familiar path to the Frostbane mansion. The place hadn’t changed. It was too polished…too perfect. Like a house that wanted you to feel welcome but never wanted you to stay.
Jared led me to the Alpha’s study. I stepped inside, and there he was.
Rylan.
He stood behind his desk. He was dressed in his usual dark clothes. His expression was unreadable.
“Kael,” he greeted and nodded once. “To what do I owe the pleasure?”
I got straight to the point. “I need to see Lisa.”
His expression didn’t change. “I’m afraid that won’t be possible.”
My fists clenched at my sides. “If that’s the only thing I came for, and it is, then don’t tell me to leave.”
Rylan stepped around the desk and crossed his arms. “I’m not being difficult, Kael. I’m telling you the truth. Lisa isn’t here.”
“You’re lying.”
His eyes flashed. “No. I’m not.”
I took a step forward. “Then where is she?”
“She left,” he said calmly. “She is currently staying at the Shadowrune pack.”

That name meant nothing to me. I frowned. “You expect me to believe that you just let her go? On her own?”
“She wasn’t on her own,” he said. “And she left of her own free will.”
“That doesn’t sound like Lisa.”
“Maybe you don’t know her as well as you think you do.”
I growled. “I know when someone is being manipulated. And she’s being manipulated. You. You’re the one doing it. You always act like the noble protector, but I see through it now. You
don’t care about her.”
Rylan’s jaw tensed. “You don’t know anything about what Lisa wants. What she feels. She was broken when she got here. I picked up the pieces while you were busy rejecting her.”
“I made mistakes,” I admitted. “But I’m here now. And I’m telling you, something is coming.
Lisa’s in danger. Let her come back with me.”
“Even if I wanted to,” he said, “she isn’t here.”
“You’re lying.”
“Believe what you want, Kael. But if you came here just to accuse me and throw orders around, then you should leave.”
I turned to the door. My chest was heaving. My pulse was racing. Valric was growling inside
- me.
“He’s hiding something.”
“I know.”
I stopped at the door and turned back one last time.
“I will find her,” I said. “And if you’re lying….if she gets hurt, I’ll make sure you pay.”
Rylan didn’t respond.
I left without another word.
As soon as I got into the car, I slammed the door shut and punched the steering wheel. The rage was crawling under my skin. The need to shift was overwhelming.
“He knows where she is,” I said.
“Yes. But he’s not telling you everything.”

“No. He’s protecting something. Hiding something.”

My fingers trembled as I reached for my phone. I opened the private contacts list. I scrolled through names I hadn’t used in years.
Spies.
Trusted wolves of the Nightshade Pack who worked in the shadows.
I sent the message: Keep eyes on Frostbane Alpha. Monitor all travel between his pack and any known allied territories. Report if he makes contact with any small border packs.
They would respond soon.
Rylan might think he could hide her from me.
But he was wrong.
I was going to find Lisa.
No matter what it took.
