Chapter 129 

After getting used to seeing Cassian and Tessa joined at the hip, it felt kind of weird to see only one of them around. 

So when Cassian said another friend was coming, Aurelia immediately guessed who it was. 

Strangely, Aurelia found herself feeling a bit more at ease. ‘Huh, that’s unexpected, she thought. 

Just one of her odd little OCD tendencies, really. 

Tessa was the only one who arrived late, stating she got stuck in traffic. 

But everyone else had driven here, too. If she knew there’d be traffic, she should’ve just left earlier. 

Still, since Cassian brought her along, nobody said a word, even if they were a little annoyed. Out of respect for Benjamin and Cassian, they just let it slide. 

Tessa must’ve already known Aurelia would be there, because when she showed up, she didn’t attention and acted like it was totally normal to see her. 

Bruce spoke up and asked Cassian, “Cassian, aren’t you going to introduce us?”

Someone nearby laughed, “Seriously, Mr. Porter? You didn’t know? Even I know, she’s Mr. Locke’s girlfriend.” 

“Mr. Porter, you’re way behind the times! Those two are basically about to tie the knot. Wait a little longer and you’ll be getting their wedding favors!” 

Bruce chuckled, “Well, I really didn’t know. Guess I made a fool of myself. Cassian, how come you never told me?” 

Cassian replied, “It’s not too late now.” 

That was basically Cassian making it official. He and Tessa were together, just like the rumors said. 

Looks like they’re really about to make it public. 

Bruce joked, “Honestly, blame Benjamin for keeping quiet about something this big. But you really are at that age, Cassian. It’s time to settle down.” 

Cassian agreed, “Yeah, it is time.” 

Tessa was beaming the whole time. Anyone could tell she was absolutely over the moon. 

It wasn’t just that Cassian had officially acknowledged her as his girlfriend; it was also because he’d brought her along to this dinner with all the business big shots. 

The only reason Aurelia got to attend this dinner was because of Benjamin. Back then, Tessa did feel a bit jealous.

But now, she didn’t envy Aurelia anymore. 

Even though it still made Tessa uncomfortable to see Benjamin supporting Aurelia and giving her a boost, she just tried not to dwell on it. 

It didn’t matter if Benjamin never paid her any attention; what mattered was that Cassian cared about her. 

Benjamin was getting old anyway. Who knew how much longer he’d be around? 

Sooner or later, the Locke family is going to end up in Cassian’s hands. 

No matter how much Aurelia tried to win over Benjamin, it wouldn’t make a difference. 

When it comes to marriage, parents can never really control who their kids end up with. 

So whether Benjamin liked her or not, it didn’t bother Tessa anymore. 

As long as she had Cassian, that was all she needed. 

Aurelia was totally focused on her funding plans, so she didn’t spare Cassian and Tessa a glance as they kept flaunting their romance. 

While everyone else was busy congratulating the couple, Aurelia was connecting with people on WhatsApp. 

When Tessa shot her a triumphant look, Aurelia was too busy pitching her latest project to even notice. 

She really looked like she was swamped! 

Tessa smirked, her eyes glinting with sarcasm. ‘She’s just acting all busy to cover up how miserable she feels inside,’ Tessa thought to herself. 

After the dinner had gone on for a while, Aurelia had zeroed in on her goal and set up a follow–up chat to talk business in detail. 

Finally, she could grab a bite. 

But now, the only thing left on the table was cold leftovers. 

Good thing she wasn’t picky, then. She just nibbled on whatever was left to fill her stomach. 

At that moment, Cassian called the waiter over and ordered a few more dishes. 

Bruce glanced over and said, “Looks like everyone’s already finished eating. What’s the point of ordering more now?” 

Cassian slowly served Tessa a piece of yam, his voice deliberately gentle as he reminded her, “You hardly ate anything. Have some more. There’s no need for a diet.” 

Tessa’s heart fluttered at his concern, and she couldn’t help but smile. “How did you know I was on a diet?” 

“Come on, eat up. I’ll order you some more,” Cassian said warmly.

“Okay,” Tessa replied, her smile growing even brighter. 

…Are you kidding me?‘ Aurelia thought, at a loss for words. 

‘No manners at all,‘ she couldn’t help but think. 

‘Why do they have to be so lovey–dovey right when everyone’s eating? Seriously, it’s enough to make someone lose their appetite,‘ she grumbled to herself. 

That totally killed her appetite. 

Aurelia gave a quick nod to the people nearby, then stepped outside for some fresh air. While she was out, she called Miranda and asked her to swing by and pick her up later. 

When she came back from her call, she ran into Tessa. 

Actually, it was obvious Tessa had been waiting for her on purpose. 

The moment their eyes met, Aurelia could see right through her. 

Aurelia stood her ground and stared right back at Tessa. 

Tessa raised an eyebrow and asked, “I heard Regal Investment is planning to bid on the port renovation project?” 

“Yeah, so what?” Aurelia replied without hesitation. 

Tessa let out a sarcastic laugh, giving Aurelia a look that screamed disdain. “Wow, you really think you can pull this off? After seven years hanging around Cassian, I figured you’d have learned something. I actually thought you might be a real rival. Guess I seriously overestimated you.” 

“Honestly? You’re just average,” Tessa scoffed. 

‘Talk about being cocky,‘ Aurelia thought. 

With Cassian backing her up, Tessa really did have the nerve to act all high and mighty. 

“You sure seem to care a lot,” Aurelia said with a relaxed smile, matching Tessa’s energy and showing she wasn’t bothered at all. 

Tessa’s expression turned icy. After a pause, she said, “Aurelia, you can’t win against me. Cassian will always be on my side. So what if you spent seven years doing everything for him? Everything you did meant nothing to him.” 

“As for me? Even if I do absolutely nothing, he’ll always choose me without hesitation.” 

As Tessa walked away, Aurelia’s smile slowly faded. 

Tessa had just hit a nerve. 

It wasn’t Cassian’s indifference that hurt her.

Only Aurelia knew just how badly she wanted to win this time.

In the private room next door, Kyler asked Wade to join him for dinner. 

It had been quite a while since they’d last seen cach other. 

Wade asked, “Aren’t you usually not a fan of this cuisine? What brings you here?” 

Kyler wasn’t bothered, “I’m not here for the food.” 

“Then what are you here for?” Wade asked with a smile. 

He had basically watched Kyler grow up. There was a ten–year age gap between them. 

They both grew up in the same old compound, but after Kyler’s family left the military and went into business, they moved out. 

Turns out, that was a smart move. 

Kyler’s dad was a real business genius. He built up the family fortune in just fifteen years. 

Wade got into politics, just like his family always planned. 

Even though they took different paths, they stayed close. 

The moment Kyler got to Ashmont, he called Wade and asked him out for dinner. 

Noticing Wade’s curiosity, Kyler drawled with a lazy smile, “I’m here because of someone I’m into.” 

“So the person you like is in Ashmont?” Wade grinned, clearly interested. “Who is it? Do I know them?” 

Before Kyler could answer, his phone buzzed. 

He checked the message and broke into a grin. “I’ll introduce you two next time. I gotta go now. Take your time with the food.” 

After Kyler left, Wade got up to leave as well. As he stepped out of the private room, he caught sight of someone familiar. 

Instinctively, he walked quickly over to Aurelia.. 

Aurelia had just wrapped things up, saw a few of the older folks off, and was about to call Miranda to check 

where she was. 

Turns out it had started to drizzle outside. 

To make it easier for Miranda to spot her, Aurelia stepped out to the front.

Chapter 129 

But then a gust of wind sent a spray of rain right at her, soaking her in seconds. 

She was left standing there, stunned and dripping wet. 

“Careful,” Wade called out to her. 

He hadn’t made it in time to shield her from the rain, but seeing that her coat was drenched, he immediately shrugged off his own jacket and draped it over Aurelia’s shoulders. 

Cassian and Tessa came out from inside together. 

When they reached the entrance, they saw Aurelia and Kylerin there. 

Cassian’s eyes paused on the oversized men’s jacket draped over Aurelia’s shoulders, lingering for a few seconds.
