Chapter 135 

For a gift like that, Aurelia knew there was no way she could let it slide without a thank you. 

She kept it short and sweet, just sending Liam a quick message. [Thanks.] 

Liam was out having drinks, and when he saw her message, he replied right away. 

He sent her a photo of himself raising a glass and texted: [Cheers from afar.] 

This time, Aurelia didn’t reply. 

Liam hung onto his phone for a while, hoping Aurelia would text back. 

When it was clear she wasn’t going to reply, he put his phone away. 

Jasper nudged him. “Didn’t you stash a bottle of Armand de Brignac Rosé here? Come on, break it out and let’s have some fun.” 

Liam replied, “I gave it away.” 

Jasper was surprised. “You just gave away that fine champagne? Who’s the lucky one? I didn’t think you’d part with it.” 

“Do I have to tell you everything?” Liam leaned back in the booth, looking totally relaxed, making it clear he wasn’t about to spill any details. 

No matter how much Jasper pressed, Liam kept his lips sealed, not giving anything away. 

“Alright, keep playing mysterious. Let’s see how long you can keep that up,” Jasper said. 

Jasper then glanced at Cassian beside him. 

From the start of the party, Cassian had been looking at his phone, his face giving nothing away. 

“Are you texting Tessa?” Jasper asked. 

Cassian didn’t confirm or deny it. 

Jasper kept talking, mostly to himself. “Tessa must be feeling pretty down. She wouldn’t even come out for drinks. We set this whole thing up just to cheer her up.” 

Jasper couldn’t help but sigh. “Honestly, who would’ve thought Aurelia would actually pull off that project? We totally underestimated her. She’s got real guts, signing a high–stakes deal with Samuel. Not many people would dare to do that.” 

Then something struck Jasper, and he added, “She reminds me of how you used to be, Cassian. Willing to take risks and never afraid to go all in. People say business is just a gambler’s game. I never believed it before, but 

now I do.”

At the mention of Aurelia, Jasper couldn’t resist poking his nose in. “Cassian, have you really moved on from Aurelia?” 

From the way Cassian had been treating Aurelia lately, it sure looked that way. 

Cassian finished his drink, then replied in that cool, indifferent tone, “I never cared about her in the first place, so what’s that about moving on?” 

Jasper was left speechless. 

Honestly, that hit hard, even for a guy like him. 

Liam teased, “Come on, Cassian only has eyes for Tessa. Why ask about stuff that doesn’t even matter?” 

Jasper muttered, “Hey, I was just curious, alright?” 

Liam topped off his drink and said, “Let’s talk about something you actually care about. I think I’m falling for 

someone.” 

Jasper snorted. “You said that last time, too.” 

“This time’s different.” Liam grinned. “I mean it. I’m serious.” 

Jasper couldn’t help but press him for details, but Liam just kept it to himself, acting all secretive, like he thought Jasper might snatch the girl away if he found out. 

Cassian didn’t say another word. He just sat there in the corner, half–hidden in the shadows, watching Jasper and Liam. The look in his eyes grew darker by the minute. 

After the team–building event, the first thing Aurelia told Miranda to do was to get the lawyer to send a cease- and–desist letter to Karlie. 

Aurelia was in a great mood and didn’t want any of that messy stuff dragging her down, so she kept quiet about it at the time. 

But that didn’t mean she was about to forget what happened. 

As soon as Miranda heard it was for Karlie, she was all over it, hustling to get it done. 

Karlie got the letter from Aurelia’s lawyer that very same day. 

She rushed straight into Tessa’s office, not even bothering to knock. 

“Tessa, Aurelia is totally out of line! She actually sent me a cease–and–desist letter, accusing me of defamation.” Karlie’s face was bright red with anger. “Please, you have to help me out here.” 

Tessa had already been in a bad mood for days, and Karlie’s dramatic complaints were just making her headache worse. 

“Why did you have to act so rashly back then? You know Aurelia never lets anything go,” Tessa snapped.

Karlie looked totally wronged. “I was just so mad, and I was only trying to defend you, Tessa.” 

Tessa skimmed through the letter. 

Aurelia was insisting that Karlie make a public apology and cover the losses. 

Paying for the losses was one thing, but making a public apology? That would really hurt Karlie’s image. 

Tessa thought for a moment, then suggested, “Why don’t you go to Regal Investment and apologize to Aurelia?” 

“No way!” Karlie nearly jumped up. “That’d be so embarrassing.” 

“Do you still want to marry into a rich family?” Tessa laid it all out for her. “Do you even realize how much damage a public apology could do?” 

Karlie fell silent. 

“I get it, you can’t just let this go, and honestly, neither can I. But is now really the time to make a fuss? Aurelia’s on top of the world now. Going up against her is like banging your head against a wall,” Tessa said. 

Karlie’s face fell. “Then what am I supposed to do?” 

“Just hold back for now. Just because you can’t do anything to her now doesn’t mean you won’t get your chance later. Just wait for the right moment,” Tessa replied. 

A flash of ruthless determination flickered deep in Tessa’s eyes. 

In the end, Karlie had to swallow her pride and drag herself over to Regal Investment to apologize to Aurelia. 

But she didn’t even get to see Aurelia. Miranda was waiting for her, ready to deliver Aurelia’s orders. 

Miranda made Karlie stand right at the front entrance and repeat, “I’m sorry, Aurelia,” two hundred and fifty times. 

Miranda stood there the whole time, keeping a close eye on Karlie. 

She even filmed the whole thing and sent the video straight to Aurelia. 

Aurelia couldn’t say she was surprised, but it still caught her off guard a little. 

Aurelia could tell Tessa would rather protect her reputation than her pride.

Spring was in full swing, and the weather was perfect. 

Aurelia went to the government office to discuss the project, only to find that it was Wade who greeted her. 

After asking around, she found out that the Minister of Commerce was in trouble. He was on suspension and under investigation.

For now, Wade was handling all of his duties. 

Wade even joked, “Guess fate’s got a funny way of bringing us together, huh?” 

Aurelia said, “You’re pretty funny.”

When they finished talking business, it was right around lunchtime, so Aurelia offered to buy Wade lunch. 

After all, he’d helped her out more than once before. 

Wade was always happy to say yes. 

As they headed out together, Wade noticed the blazing sun and paused. “Wait a second, I forgot something.” 

He dashed off and came back almost instantly, holding a sun umbrella. 

It was new, small, lightweight, and obviously a women’s style. 

“Here, this is for you,” Wade said, handing it to Aurelia. 

Aurelia grinned and teased, “Seriously, do you just carry umbrellas around all the time?” 

“I didn’t want you to be caught without one,” Wade said. 

That was why Wade prepared it in advance. 

Aurelia could tell how thoughtful and attentive Wade was. 

‘He’s a gentleman, considerate and courteous,‘ Aurelia mused. ‘He’s also easy on the eyes and has a solid 

career.‘ 

If Aurelia had never been in love before, maybe she would’ve been swept away by him. 

But after everything she’d been through, she realized love was just something you experienced. It all ended the same. 

When she needed love the most, she’d never truly been loved deeply. 

After that, no matter how much love came her way, it just didn’t mean much to her anymore. 

By not accepting it, she wouldn’t disappoint anyone, and that was her way of staying true. 

Wade was smart. He always knew when to pull back, never overstepping, always keeping things comfortable and respectful. 

He never pressed for an outcome. 

“Come on, let’s grab some food. I’m starving,” Wade said, taking the umbrella from Aurelia and popping it 

open 

for her. 

Aurelia felt herself relax, and the two of them chatted and laughed like a loving couple.

Not far away, a silver Maybach sped by. 

Cassian sat in the back seat, catching a glimpse of them through the window. 

The car was moving so fast that the scene passed in a blur. 

But somehow, that image stuck with Cassian, etched deep in his mind, impossible to shake off.
