Chapter 143
:
Before Aurelia could finish her sentence, her lips were sealed with a kiss.
Her mind drifted away again.
She felt herself adrift in a boundless sea, tossed and turned by the waves, powerless to resist.

After what felt like an eternity, Aurelia’s hand fumbled across the bed as she muttered, “Where’s my phone?”
“What do you need your phone for?” A voice asked.
“To transfer money,” she replied.
‘There’s no way you’re going to let me sleep with you for free, right?‘ Aurelia thought.
She vaguely heard him chuckle, his breath growing heavier. “I’m totally fine with you getting a free ride.”
With that, he lowered his head and kissed her, their tongues entwined as the kiss grew deeper and more intense.
In the end, it wasn’t just Aurelia who lost control.
The man lost control, too. His moves were rough, and Aurelia could barely handle it. Her nails dug into his back without thinking.
“Go…go a little slower,” Aurelia gasped.
It had been ages since she’d done this, and even with the medicine kicking in, she still couldn’t quite handle it.

When Tessa arrived, Karlie personally went to the door to greet her.
Seeing that Tessa was alone, Karlie asked, “Where’s your brother–in–law? He didn’t come with you?”
This whole thing was set up for Cassian. If he doesn’t show, then all this is just a waste of time.
Tessa replied, “He’s on his way. He’ll be here soon. He won’t miss it.”
“Good,” Karlie said.
Karlie led Tessa to the private room they’d booked, settling in to wait for the rest to show up.
The first to arrive was Jasper. After all, Tessa was the one who asked him to come.
As soon as he walked in, he asked, “Where are Liam and Cassian?”
“Cassian’s on his way. I’m not sure about Liam,” Tessa replied.

Jasper said, “He lives closer than me, so he should’ve beaten me here. I’ll call him!” Jasper said.
Jasper immediately dialed Liam’s number.
But the call rang all the way through, and no one picked up.
“Weird. Where’d he run off to?” Jasper grumbled under his breath.
Karlie was just as eager to see Liam and nudged Tessa to try calling him as well.

Tessa chuckled at them. “Come on, he’s a grown man. He’s not gonna just disappear. Probably got caught up with something. Chill, he’ll show up soon.”
The three of them started drinking, but after waiting a bit, Liam still hadn’t turned up.
Karlie figured it was about time and gave Tessa a meaningful look.
Finally, Tessa called Cassian to ask where he was.
Cassian’s phone rang a bunch of times before he finally picked up, his voice rough and raspy from that stubborn cough he’d had since his fever broke.
Tessa asked, “Where are you?”
Cassian told her the street name. It was only about two blocks from the club.
“Almost here, huh? I’ll head out and wait for you,” Tessa said.
Cassian reminded her, “It’s raining and kinda cold out there. There’s no need to come out. I’ll be there in a sec.”
Jasper joked, “Wow, Cassian’s got a soft side when no one’s looking? Didn’t see that coming.”
“Trust me, Cassian’s always super sweet to Tessa,” Karlie chimed in, like she’d seen it a hundred times.
Tessa just brushed off their teasing and headed out anyway to meet Cassian.
Suddenly, a loud crash echoed through the phone, followed by Cassian’s muffled groan of pain.
“Cassian? Cassian, are you okay? What happened?” Tessa yelled into the phone, panicked.
There was no response, just the blaring of car horns.
Tessa was losing it, calling Cassian’s name again and again.
Three agonizing minutes later, Cassian finally answered.
“I… I got into a car accident…” Cassian muttered, his voice shaking.
Tessa and Jasper bolted out the door.

Karlie knew she should go too, but right now she was more concerned about the situation with Aurelia.
She made up an excuse about needing to handle some money stuff and said she’d catch up with them at the hospital later.
Jasper went to get the car, and while Tessa was waiting at the entrance, she suddenly noticed a familiar face.
It was Wade. He looked hurried and was dressed differently than usual. Even his hair was messier than she’d
ever seen.
Tessa was about to call out to him, but remembered she had other things to handle and stopped herself.
He hurried off, vanishing from her sight in no time.
Just then, Jasper pulled up, and Tessa jumped in, and they rushed to the crash site.
When they got there, Cassian was already being loaded into the ambulance.
The silver Maybach had slammed into a roadside public sculpture, the car completely overturned, and the front of the car was crushed in.
The traffic police were managing the scene and directing traffic.
Tessa and Jasper trailed the ambulance to the hospital.
When they got to the hospital, they realized Cassian was in pretty bad shape.
There was a deep gash above his brow from the shattered glass, one that he’d definitely need stitches for. He was also covered in bruises and had a bunch of other scrapes and contusions.
Thankfully, none of it was life–threatening, and Tessa finally breathed a huge sigh of relief.
While Tessa was helping Cassian get patched up, Karlie called to ask how things were going.
Tessa gave her a quick rundown.
With other people around, they both silently agreed not to bring up Aurelia.
Karlie had learned from the past and knew that Tessa would want to know what happened. So, she shot Tessa a text immediately after hanging up.
[Tyson took Aurelia away,] the message from Karlie read.
Tessa froze and texted back, [How did he show up there?]
[Hell if I know!], Karlie’s reply read. It was clear that she was fuming too.
Everything was supposed to go off without a hitch, but in the end, something still went wrong.
Tessa had even arranged for a male escort to keep Aurelia company, hoping to paint her as wild and promiscuous.

She wanted to trash Aurelia’s reputation in front of Cassian and the others, so they’d all steer clear of her.
And yet, after all the trouble she went through to set up this whole show, Tyson just barged in and messed everything up.
In the end, it was all for nothing.
Tessa couldn’t help but feel let down once she got the real story.
But at the moment, she was way more worried about Cassian, so she didn’t get into it with Karlie.
The doctor had finished treating Cassian’s wounds and was giving him instructions. “Keep the area dry. Since the cut is pretty deep, there’s a good chance it’ll leave a scar.”
Cassian just shrugged it off, totally unfazed.
On the other hand, Tessa was really anxious. “Can the scar be removed?”
The doctor smiled reassuringly, “With technology, that’s not a problem at all. No need to worry.”
Cassian couldn’t help teasing her, “What, are you planning to ditch me if I end up with a scar on my face?”
Jasper and Liam walked in just in time to catch that, both rolling their eyes. “Still got time to flirt, huh? Looks like your head’s still in one piece,” Jasper joked.
Liam snickered, “Man, your driving sucks that bad? You actually crashed into the curb?”
Cassian shrugged, “Got distracted by the call, wasn’t really paying attention.”
Tessa’s guilt hit her even harder. “I shouldn’t have called you at all.”
Cassian reassured her, “Seriously, I’m fine. Don’t beat yourself up. It was my own screw–up, not yours.”
“Alright, alright, let’s get out of here before we turn into third wheels. Not only did we miss out on drinks, but now we’re getting force–fed all their lovey–dovey PDA,” Jasper complained.
Since Cassian was fine, the two of them didn’t hang around any longer.
As they walked out of the hospital, Jasper suddenly remembered and turned to Liam. “Where the hell did you go, man? Do you have any idea how long Tessa and I were stuck waiting for you?”
Liam looked away, a bit shifty. “I had some stuff to deal with, so I got held up.”
