After dinner, Wade drove Aurelia home. Normally, it would be polite to invite him up for a while. But Aurelia worried that might send the wrong signal, so she just said goodbye to him at the gate of her apartment complex. 

Wade was always a gentleman about these things. He never made Aurelia feel awkward or uneasy. 

After Wade drove off, Aurelia was just about to head home when a mocking voice rang out behind her. “Impressive tricks! You’ve even got Wade wrapped around your finger,” Cassian sneered. 

‘Not this guy again, Aurelia thought, rolling her eyes. She took a deep breath before turning around. 

She didn’t even look at Cassian, just headed straight for the gate, clearly treating him like he didn’t exist. But Cassian was like a ghost haunting her. He kept showing up wherever she went. In a few quick strides, he closed the distance and caught her arm. 

Instinctively, Aurelia spun around and slapped him hard across the face. The slap was crisp and loud, the sound cutting through the air. 

Cassian’s head snapped to the side from the force of the blow. He pressed his tongue against the inside of his stinging left cheek, then let out a cold, mocking laugh. “So, did I hit the mark? Is that why you’re all flustered now?” 

“I’m teaching you some manners. Let go, or I’ll hit you again!” Aurelia shot back. 

But Cassian still wouldn’t let go. Before Aurelia could lift her hand for another slap, he grabbed her wrist, locking her in place. 

Cassian’s voice was cold. “First it was Gideon, now Wade. How

huh?” 

If this had happened before, Aurelia would’ve rushed to defend herself. She would’ve said there was nothing between her and any of them, that she was totally innocent. But at that moment, she couldn’t even be bothered to explain. 

‘Like hell I’m explaining anything!‘ Aurelia thought. 

“Even if I had a hundred guys lined up after you, it’s none of your damn business. Get your facts straight!” Aurelia snapped. 

“And what if I never do?” Cassian shot back, his tone full of mockery. 

“Then fucking die!” Aurelia spat, her anger boiling over. She wrenched her arm free, fuming, and spun 

around to leave. 

That was when Cassian finally bothered to explain himself. “Abigail asked me to bring you some medicine. It’s in the car. Wait here, I’ll go grab it.” 

But when Cassian came back with the medicine, Aurelia was nowhere to be seen. She was already gone. 

‘Like I’d ever wait for him‘ Aurelia scoffed, still pissed off. She didn’t plan to waste another second on him.

Her patience had long gone. She couldn’t even stand to look at him for a single moment.

When Aurelia got home, she was still mad. Just then, her phone rang. It was Abigail. She had to swallow her anger and pick up. 

Abigail asked if she’d gotten the medicine yet. She told Aurelia she’d gone through a lot to get it. She also said that it was good for a young woman’s health. 

Abigail knew Aurelia was always swamped with work and had no time to care for herself. Hence, Abigail prepared special daily supplements for her and sent Cassian to deliver them. She even said that once Aurelia finished this batch, she’d make more and send it over again. 

“Abigail, you don’t have to go out of your way for me,” Aurelia said. 

“It’s no trouble at all. You need to take better care of yourself. Your doctor told me you’re not in great shape,” Abigail replied. 

Aurelia felt a jolt of panic. “What else did my doctor say?” she asked. 

“Just that you’re not doing well and need to rest and recover. That’s all,” Abigail reassured. 

With that explanation, Aurelia felt the tension in her chest ease. She fibbed, hesitating for a moment before saying, “Yeah, I got the medicine. Thank you, Abigail.” 

“Good, just make sure you take it on time, okay?” Abigail reminded her again. 

“I will,” Aurelia replied. 

After hanging up, Aurelia finally felt her anger fade away. She was just about to take a shower when someone knocked on her door. She frowned, already knowing who it had to be. 

She really didn’t want to open the door. After all, she moved to a new place to get away from him and put the past behind her. 

All she wanted was to start anew from everything that came before. She’d fought tooth and nail to get to where she was, and she wasn’t about to let anyone dim her shine. If anyone tried to mess with her, she’d just cut them out of her life without a second thought. 

If Cassian started pounding on her door again, trying to push her around like before, she wouldn’t even answer. She wouldn’t open the door. She’d call the cops without a second thought. 

Aurelia had the emergency number typed into her phone. If Cassian knocked even once more, she’d hit call without hesitation. But this time, the noise outside faded almost immediately. Cassian only knocked three 

times. 

Aurelia checked the peephole, but there was absolutely no one out there. She hesitated for a few seconds, then finally opened the door. 

There was a bag sitting on her doorstep, and inside was the medicine Abigail had brewed for her. Cassian had already left. He was nowhere to be seen.

On Wednesday, Aurelia invited Sean to Regal Investment to discuss a project. She told him she’d gone over his proposal and found it really interesting. 

Sean arrived at Regal Investment, feeling confident. While waiting for the elevator, he ran into Curlison, who was coming down to pick up Tessa. 

“Well, if it isn’t Sean,” Curlison said, looking all smug and full of himself. He had been glowing with success lately, 

Compared to Sean, Curlison was on a whole different level, One was living a high life, the other was barely scraping by. 

Seeing Sean looking so washed up, Curlison felt even more pleased with himself. “What, can’t hack it out there? I told you that business is business, dreams are dreams. You can’t live off your ideals! 

“You’re way too stubborn, man. You never got that I was looking out for you, and you still blew up at me!” Curlison sneered. Back before Sean quit, he and Curlison had a shouting match in the office. Everyone heard it, and it made Curlison lose face. 

Curlison always figured he should be in charge since he was the biggest investor. To him, Sean was just someone working for him. He shouldn’t even think about talking back, let alone challenging him. 

Curlison straightened his designer suit, flashing a smug grin at Sean. “Guess what? Honoria Capital just pumped even more money into my company. If you’re struggling, I might be able to give you a spot. Just for old classmates‘ sake.” 

“But…” Curlison tilted his chin up, looking down at Sean. “There’s a catch. You gotta admit you were wrong and apologize to me in front of everyone at the company. Only then will I let you join. And from now on, you’re just another employee. Forget about being a partner.” 

The elevator chimed, signaling its arrival. Sean kept his face blank and said coldly, “Step aside. You’re blocking my way.” 

Curlison was still standing, stunned, even after the elevator doors closed and Sean was gone. ‘Wait, he wasn’t here to beg me for help?‘ Curlison thought, totally thrown off. 

‘No way. He looks totally washed up. He must be here because he’s got nowhere else to go! Perhaps he can’t bring himself to ask for help. 

‘But if he’s so hung up on his pride, let him suffer then,‘ Curlison thought, a smug grin spreading across his 

face. 

Sean and Aurelia spent the whole afternoon in the conference room, so caught up in their conversation that they didn’t even realize they’d blown right past dinnertime. 

It wasn’t until Miranda poked her head in to remind them that they finally snapped out of it, realizing they’d been talking for hours without even noticing. 

“Let’s just grab dinner together while we’re at it,” Aurelia said, then asked Miranda to book a restaurant.

During dinner, they chatted about the project, and when they were finally done eating, Aurelia asked a question. “Mind if I ask what happened between you and Curlison? Why did you two split up?” she asked. 

Sean had never mentioned it before, but Aurelia could guess they’d had a pretty rough falling out. Since they were about to work together, she needed to get a clear picture of the situation. 

Sean paused, then explained, “Curlison was all about those pay–to–win mobile games, quick cash, no soul. Pur I wanted to make it epic. AAA titles, so we clashed from the start. We once agreed to develop mobile games before, but then he insisted everything had to be sexy. Even the plot had to be borderline risqué to hook players. I couldn’t stomach that, so we blew up at each other and went our separate ways” 

Aurelia wasn’t surprised by his answer. When she was conducting her due diligence, Curlison had pitched the same idea to her, but she shot it down right away. 

After a few rewrites, it was only when Sean stepped in and took charge that the project finally met Aurelia’s standards. She never imagined so much would go down after that, 

“Guess good things always take a little struggle. Just focus on making what you really love from now on!” Aurelia encouraged him. 

When Aurelia went up to pay the bill, she bumped into Kyler at the front desk. He was finishing up his own payment. 

Kyler had already settled up and was about to head out. But when he spotted Aurelia, he suddenly paused and said, “Ms. Corin, you know, it’s best to keep things honest and aboveboard.”
